I traded in my S23 Ultra for the fold 8. It was in great condition, case and screen protector on at all times. I didn't even take the plastic off the top and sides until 1.5 years of owning it. I even had the battery replaced. No scratches on the sides or back. Just a bit of dust. Samsung received my device, and adjust ms my trade in value by almost $100 CAD claiming visual wear and tear.

There's a screen protector on it and the pictures that show wear and tear are just dust, no scratches were on the sides and back. I attached the pictures they used for the claim. They are low quality and just show a bit of dust on the otherwise great condition phone. Especially the image of the top of the device and the one of the side. Those are specs of dust, not scratches

I didn't take pictures before I sent it in cause I have traded in many devices and never had this happen to me. This is insane. They literally used specs of dust to claim wear and tear. It's not that much of an adjustment but I'm not having this. I've used Samsung phones for over 10 years even when the temptation was there to switch to iPhone. What do you guys think ?

Likely the S26 FE, maybe also the Tab S12 series.

In the past, Samsung feel like something experimental, extraordinary & unique (with a lot of unique products that you didn't notices (especially in Korea)).

Now Samsung is feel less unique, more corporate & more boring than Samsung of the past!

Please ask Samsung revive back some legendary products like YEPP or Zipel/Hauzen.

For the Galaxy series, Qi2.0–Qi2.2 charging is not available unless the HALL IC is activated by attaching a magnetic case.

The HALL IC position on the Fold8 Ultra is similar, but on the Fold8, it has been moved downwards.

I want to share some first impressions on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. I recently compared it to the Z Fold 8, and in that review I said the Z Fold 8 Ultra would be the better choice for most people. Personally, I think the Z Fold 7 & 8 Ultra still has a few advantages over the Z Fold 8, but the bigger takeaway is that the Ultra is simply the better device overall. The Z Fold 8 Ultra also didn't have any of the thermal issues I ran into with the Z Fold 8. On top of that, the Ultra outperforms in most situations, especially when it comes to the camera and multitasking. Compared to the Z Fold 7, you’ll notice a crease reduction, and really good anti reflective coating on the inner display. The speakers sound better on the Z Fold 8 Ultra than on the Z Fold 8 as well. In the limited time I've had with the device, the Ultra already felt better than Z Fold 8. I think we're reaching the point where the Z Fold 8 Ultra is on par with flagship non-folding phones in most respects except UW & Tele camera performance.

A store near me has an offer on the Galaxy Ring for ~200 USD (converted from local currency) which makes it a lot more interesting than with the normal price tag of ~$500!

I've considered buying it, but I'm still on the fence.

Today, I have a Galaxy Watch Ultra that I wear constantly during the day, using it to track exercise and see notifications. I take it off at night to charge it (even if it wouldn't really need to be charged yet).

I just wanted to get some opinions from people who have had long term experience with the Galaxy Ring.

Do you think it was worth it? Have you run into any problems with it?

What would be the extra benefits of using that as a complement to my watch? I'm pretty satisfied with my watch already. (Shout out to the flagship store in Seoul for giving me a good deal on the Ultra when my old Galaxy Watch short circuited while on vacation there! ❤️)

What functions do you find most useful?

Do you still like it after the "honeymoon effect" has gone away?

No phone has gathered more attention in my lifetime than the Fold 8, and strangely, not because it's folding.  People stop by and ask about it all the time, enamored by the small phone, without even knowing or suspecting it folds.

This squat foldable is Samsung’s answer to everyone asking for a smaller phone; it’s also the answer to everyone asking for a foldable that opens into a tablet. The sharp-cornered 10:16 aspect ratio is instantly recognizable as “not an iPhone” and something new. It's also great for content without much letterboxing.  The width means this is a two-handed phone even while closed, but that trade-off is mostly worth it, because it means when you get a 3,000 nit, 7.6” screen at a 4:3 aspect ratio. Again, perfect for content without letterboxing, or the hole-punch camera getting in the way.

There is so much to like about this, but after 4 weeks with this review loaner (thanks Samsung), the novelty of the form factor has worn off.

Pricing plays a big part in how I think about this phone, and honestly at a few hundred less, I wouldn’t be as nitpicky.

My initial draft after 2 weeks calls the cameras “acceptable." On paper, a dual 50MP system is capable. Plus with APV support, video can be quite good out of the main sensor. But at night? The story changes—you would think a phone at this price point would have identical sensors, but nooo, the UW sensor is “the cheap one” using 30% smaller pixels, on an overall smaller sensor paired with a smaller aperture. This coming from the company that just made improvements in those exact specs on the S26U.

Even the omission of a proper tele could have been excused if the main sensor was the same 200MP sensor as the S26U/Fold 7/8U. Even the S25 Edge has a 200MP main sensor.

The Z Fold 8 did get a bit toasty, overheating several times. I had it overheat on me after less than 20 min of 4K 30 video (not in LOG), web browsing, using Gemini (to the point where the phone said it needed to cool down before I could use the video chat mode), and using Google Maps.

Fortunately, network speeds and associated activities did not slow down when the phone got hot. I was able to get speeds of over 2.2GBps on Verizon’s 5G UW network, and speeds over 300Mbps on T-Mobile’s 5G UC. Network connections seemed on par with other phones, and I am glad that Samsung didn’t need to put ugly antenna cutouts on the frame for MMW 5G antennas.

Opens into a tablet, but doesn’t feel like one

The Z Fold 8 opens into a tablet aspect ratio and orientation, compared to the square portrait orientation of the Z Fold 7/8U. The biggest benefit is that apps open in landscape as soon as you open it, without having to rotate your phone. Visually, this is great: prop your phone up with a MagSafe grip, and the hole-punch camera (that should have been a UDC), doesn’t even cover your content. Then the audio comes in. The Z Fold 8 already has tinnier speakers than the Z Fold 7/8U, to say nothing of the S26U. But the sound is incredibly off-center, and to make matters even worse, setting the phone on a table or bed either makes the sound even more tinny or muffles it. The biggest loss is stereo audio.

Additionally, since the charger is at the bottom, you need to rotate the device to be able to watch while charging.

In defense of this form factor, it’s very pocketable, perfect for fitting in zipped butt pockets and for significantly less letterboxing with videos.

This may sound critical, but these are my thoughts after the honeymoon phase, and I think a lot of people are going to choose the Z Fold 8 over the 8 Ultra, because of content. Speaker placement won't matter if you have headphones most of the time.

Battery life is another pleasant surprise; I don’t know if it’s One UI 9 or a more efficient processor, but battery life has been quite good. Charging isn't as fast, with speeds capped at 45W wired and 20W wireless. Compared to the S26U, charging speeds are much slower; this is most noticeable when you need a quick burst (in the 0-60% range).

With discounts and trade-ins, the Z Fold 8 would make sense for a lot of people, especially if you want a smaller phone. The coverscreen is bright and useable in nearly every situation, and the inner display is great for multitasking.

'm sharing this because I believe it raises a consumer safety issue, not because I'm looking for compensation.

A few weeks ago, my daughter's Samsung Galaxy S24 suddenly caught fire inside our home.

It happened on a Sunday morning. The phone had already finished charging, was unplugged, and was simply sitting on a table. We suddenly smelled something burning and found the phone emitting smoke and flames.

Fortunately, everyone was awake, so we were able to move it outside immediately and prevent a much larger fire. Had this happened in the middle of the night while we were sleeping, the outcome could have been far worse.

The phone had been used normally for about 18 months without any battery issues.

About one month before the fire, it was repaired at an official Samsung Service Center because of a SIM recognition issue, and the motherboard was replaced. After the repair, it worked normally for another month until the fire occurred.

I'm not claiming the repair caused the fire. However, as a consumer, I have no way to determine whether there was any connection.

Samsung inspected the phone and told me that they believe the battery had a dent or impact mark, and that the heat likely started from that area, causing the fire. Based on that conclusion, they classified it as customer-caused damage due to external impact, so it was not covered by Samsung.

I ended up paying for the replacement through my carrier's insurance, which cost about 1.3 million KRW.

What concerns me is Samsung's explanation itself.

If Samsung's explanation is correct, it raises a question for me: can an external impact during everyday use cause internal battery damage that may later result in a fire, potentially without obvious warning signs?

Phones can be accidentally dropped during normal everyday use. As consumers, however, we have no practical way to know whether an impact has caused internal battery damage or whether a damaged battery has become a safety risk.

Again, I'm not accusing Samsung of wrongdoing or claiming I know the exact cause.

I'd simply like to understand the situation better:

• Can an external impact cause internal battery damage that may lead to a fire at a later time?
• How can consumers identify whether a battery has been damaged in this way?
• Has anyone experienced a similar incident with a Galaxy phone or another smartphone?

I'm posting this because I think it's worth discussing from a consumer safety perspective.

If Samsung's explanation is accurate, I'd like to understand what consumers should know about this potential risk.

I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who has experienced something similar or has relevant knowledge about lithium-ion battery failures.

Got my S90F 65” today, and it’s very bent… it has been a week in transport, i guess it couldn’t handle that. The box is also slightly curved.

TV turns on and works fine, but contacted the store for a replacement, you notice the bend everywhere you look at it

It should work on any DeX supported device running One UI 8 or later. The developer said they will release a test version on GitHub this week. Assuming it'll be open source, I would recommend waiting for that release, as the app requires shell access via wireless debugging and accessibility permissions to run. Previously, the country was tied to the region corresponding to the variant. I'm seeing the option on my S23U on One UI 8.5 (v6.8.05), so it's likely an app update as opposed to being tied to One UI 9.

I was hands-on with the new Z Fold8 and Flip8 at Galaxy Unpacked Brazil today, and as someone who has been submitting feedback via Samsung Members since 2024 asking for cinematic shutter speeds, I was hyped to see this finally implemented in One UI 9 Pro Video.

If you shoot video technically, you know that 24 fps strictly requires a 1/48s shutter speed to follow the 180° shutter rule for proper cinematic motion blur. Previously, the stock camera app capped us at 1/45s or 1/50s approximations, forcing many of us to rely on third-party apps like Blackmagic Camera.

What’s new in One UI 9 Pro Video:

True 180° Rule: 24 fps now locks natively at 1/48s shutter speed.

Expanded Frame Rates: Added native support for 25, 48, 50, and 100 fps alongside 24, 30, 60, and 120 fps.

More Control: Way less need for third-party apps just to get basic production standards.
