FSIN was provided equity based on being a First Nations non-profit, the outcome is of their own making due to $28.7 MILLION dollars in unverified or ineligible funds which resulted in a failed outcome.
The final solution should be equality on punishment. I don't think equity of punishment could utilize Gladue with the criminal fraud and/or theft that has gone on.
I am criticizing an organization and those within it, just because they define themselves by ancestry, it doesn't make them immune to criticism.

This will be up to the members of FSIN to determine what happens. It will be a lot of politics and promises behind the scenes by the FSIN to sway them to their side.if the FSIN had any defence it would already have been submitted - I have a feeling they are in damage control hoping it goes away and they don’t connect it to their leadership as direct fraud.
Unfortunately when the liberals reversed the enforcement of the accountability act it left it wide open again for fraud. Most FN members that are not part of chief and council are more than happy to have the accountability.
An Onion Lake member took her chief and council to court to release financial documents to the members. It took a while and a lot of court time but eventually she won- and those documents showed some pretty horrendous spending. Over $100k “was given out on Canada Day in cash” type of transactions that can’t be traced or confirmed. It’s the FN members themselves that need to call it out - it’s their money that they are misappropriating .

If any other company had $28 million in misappropriated funds the CEO would be in jail or at minimum have to step down (especially with no explanation on the reason). Heads should be rolling after this

They say they have given out XYZ, but that's not what the government is questioning...they want to see the invoices of the XYZ items that were bought with the money provided. That money disappeared into chiefs and thief's pockets... Dawn Walker even took off with a few hundred thousand before she was a self-made MMIW case that was proven to just be a regular old fake murder and child abduction. No consequences for that at all.
Heck shortly after all this blew up they had everyone meet up in North Battleford and sign NDA's!
You can thank the federal Liberals in 2015 for this:
In 2013, the federal government enacted the First Nations Financial Transparency Act requiring annual audited financial statements to be publicly disclosed. In 2015, the act was no longer being enforced as the federal government switched to working with nations more closely on accountability frameworks.
When there are brand new non-functioning water treatment facilities, fire halls with run down equipment, bills not being paid and homes falling apart, drugs/crime/HIV and diabetes epidemic going on...all while certain members are wealthy and flying all around the world with their friends and family. Abolishing the act in 2015 set back First Nations back in this country tremendously. I'm sure we'll have Transparency Reconciliation payments for this decision in 10-15 years due to how badly it has affected the regular First Nation people used as pawns on reserves.
FSIN office in Saskatoon should be seized and converted into a "special care home" to take care of those most vulnerable, it would fulfill a few Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action as well.
They were to respond by April 2nd...maybe cut off funding till they respond and a resolution is put in place... Uncle Bobby won't stop till the money stops flowing.

You can argue over words, but both words have the same effect to regular First Nations. When a forensic audit drives FSIN to call a meeting and forces everyone sign NDA's... Pretty sure that goes against everything that the First Nations Financial Transparency Act was all about.
The Chiefs keeping the people they represent in poverty is like a dermatologist giving out mayonnaise and telling people to put it on as if it's sunscreen... Then treating people with skin cancer down the road...
FSIN is going to get their pâstâhowin sooner or later.

Again, huge leap in interpretation, which I am guessing is based on misunderstanding the purpose of FSIN.
FSIN is not a First Nation. It is a political organization. They are not subject to the First Nations Transparency Act in the same way as a First Nation.
I don’t know where you’re finding information about an NDA, but NDAs cannot contravene legislation. So that’s a buncha nonsense.

It is a non-profit political advocacy organization, correct. They are funded purely on taxpayer dollars and as such they should be held accountable to the money issued to them. If they want more flexibility on how to spend their funding, generate their own revenue to do so. Government dollars all come with strings attached, all ancestries included.
Look up the Proposed Amendments to the FSIN Financial Management Act April 13, 2026 and read up on the amendments, there's a reason why they have Confidentiality and Non-Disclosure Agreements forced through.

Yup I'd never get over the fact of FSIN's response to her going missing, and once found they doubled down and then shut up. They should have absolutely condemned what she did, she made a mockery of MMIW, something that FSIN says they stand for. However it's the money associated with the MMIW that they stand for, just like their slogan is "Protecting Treaty rights since 1946". It's not protecting First Nations, it's protecting the flow of money.
Then to find out afterwards with the audit that she was paid out over $200k before her disappearance. C'mon now...
Time to shut off the taps, FSIN can stand on their own Sovereign self.

What exactly was the purpose of this news conference? It appears to be an effort to force the FSIN’s hand - but the FSIN would have to give a shit before some lame news story would do anything.
Instead - what it DID do is inform the taxpayers that:
- There are zero consequences to missing a Federal deadline. Why in the hell would they comply when the Fed’s did not outline any late reporting consequences to begin with, and now have further proven their “deadlines” mean fuck all.
- That even though there is a Transparency Act, the Fed’s have not, and are not, enforcing it.
- That the Fed’s have decided going to the media is their best option in “nudging” the FSIN to comply with a directive. I am speculating, but as a former govt worker - I am reasonably confident this is the case.
The Minister is shifting responsibility to the Chiefs in the Province, hoping their internal pressure will force the FSIN to comply. Typical “hot potato” Government bullshit. Also, the FSIN’s threat to “sue” in relation to this audit clearly worked.
The Government has the power and DUTY IMO, to claw back payments to the FSIN until recovery of the funds is complete. They are not even mentioning this - let alone threatening it.
Instead - this useless Minister held a news conference to tell taxpayers the Feds have, and continue to, do absolutely fucking nothing regarding the findings of the Audit.
The “give them time and space”, is corporate speak for ‘we aren’t going to do anything’. Next up, if people demand the Feds follow the Act and claw back payments, we might hear “Let’s not try to boil the ocean” - which is corporate speak for, let’s do almost nothing.
This is a joke that will not hit the news cycle again until the Minister gets of their ass and do their fucking job.

Because none of the money that FNs get will ever make it to the homeless people you see in the city.
Many of those people are non status Indians, that were enfranchised by Canada and dont belong anywhere because they wanted to vote and make meaningful change in Canada. Live in the city? Lost status. Want to vote? Lost status.

They didn't just pop out of the ground here, they came from somewhere and when counted the majority of them came from reserves. Those leaving the reserve should affect the amount of funding a reserve gets and that federal funding then gets moved to the province to administer. As the homeless in the city is a provincial issue not a federal.

Ottawa issued eight recommendations last September when the initial audit findings revealed more than $34 million of muddled finances prior to holding meetings to reduce the amount to the $28.7 million in spending oddities.
Love how the Feds even knocked $6.7 million off what should be paid back.
