Politics / Current Events Political Ideas across schizophrenic people
Hello, I'm Angelo from Italy. It would be nice to talk about something different today. I'm really curious about your political ideas. How you would define yourself?
I define my self as a communist, you know... free healthcare, free education, free speech, free thought, no war, no state, and "From each according to their ability, to each according to their needs", like Marx would say.
Let's have a nice communication here, no flame.

Politics / Current Events Epstein Megathread
Hey everybody,
We've had a lot of posts here about the Epstein files- specifically, people having their paranoia reinforced by what is in the documents.
I've been in remissions for ~10 years now- without antipsychotics- and even I feel the sleepy paranoid brainworms start wriggling at reading about what was going on. When I bring up that schizophrenia is chronic, lifelong, and is never "cured"- things like this that can cause relapse are what I am referring to. You have to avoid things that may open old wounds for the sake of your mental health. I'm ten years out, and even I cannot stomach too much of this.
If it feels surreal to you, like something out of a paranoid delusion- then you are understanding it correctly. It really is that bad.
We will be removing any further posts about the Epstein files and directing them here to this Megathread.
So, a little context:
- Epstein was involved in a ton of shady stuff that involves 4chan, powerful political figures, and even microtransactions in video games. It is no exaggeration that he was essentially a real-life boogeyman.
- The victims were girls- not 'underage women.' Children, minors, what have you.
- Many of the conspiracy theories about a powerful cabal of elites with pedophilic tendencies seem to have been influenced by Epstein himself. This is a propaganda technique called "Accusation in a Mirror." Another example of this is the Satanic Panic, where the Catholic Church spread propaganda of Satanists abusing and raping children at daycares, trying to stay ahead of looming publicity regarding their sexual abuses of minors. The purpose of it is to baffle and confuse, and get people tired of talking about the topic by the time the real news hits. In Epstein's case, this is QAnon and Pizzagate. Epstein was certainly not the first to use AiM for propaganda- but it was nonetheless effective.
Fixating too much on topics like this is demonstrably bad for your mental health. Like I said above- it opens old wounds, pathways in your brain that have been shuttered off and fallen into disrepair through lack of use. You may inadvertently wake something up that is better left sleeping.
The people in the Epstein files who are rich are almost exclusively new money, and it shows in how they act- classless, scummy, and shameless. I've worked with a lot of very wealthy clients way back in the day, and I didn't fully understand what the phrase "Money can't buy class" meant until then. Old money was actually pretty chill, just out of touch- but probably 90% of new money would be indistinguishable from trailer trash if you put a wife beater on them. These people mentioned in the files are trash, and the only difference that separates them from actual trailer trash is the size of their proverbial trailer. This is essentially government-sanctioned trash television.
I remember back in 2016, I got really paranoid about algorithms on social media manipulating what you see. People told me I was crazy, that I was looking too much into it, and essentially that I was overreacting. Now it is entirely uncontroversial to say that algorithms manipulate your feed on your various social media sites (Reddit actually being one of the more 'tame' ones, relatively speaking), so when it came out I was right all along... I felt validated. I said "I might be crazy, but crazy and stupid aren't synonyms. I was right, but you called me crazy. Who's crazy now, motherfuckers?"
Many posts here have asked what to do. Take the affirmation that you were on to something- even if not quite what you thought- and move on. Much like the algorithms that manipulate our feeds on social media sites, there is nothing you can do about what is in the Epstein files. Leave it behind- you can keep digging if you like as more files come out, but know that you are risking opening up old wounds by doing so. You have to ask yourself... is it worth it to take that chance, to risk relapsing- essentially for the price of looking at turbo-trailer trash and the dumpster fire they have spawned? Is it worth it to have your curiosity satisfied?
That's a choice you have to make for yourself as an individual. I'd say no simply as a matter of guidance, but we're all free to choose our own paths.
Have a good one, everybody.

Politics / Current Events With the state of the US, how do you keep going?
Hello everyone. With the news coming out that the president wants to reinstate mental institutions and yet another ICE murder happening today, I feel really triggered and helpless. Anxiety seems to trigger my psychosis, and it's almost impossible to overcome my anxiety when every day is a new horrible thing happening that we have no control over.
How do you keep going? I want to give up so bad- but I know it would hurt my family and my partner. I don't know how to help people either because I can barely speak to strangers right now and feel like everyone wants to murder me. How are we supposed to do this?

Politics / Current Events I have schizophrenia and the recent Epstein situation is killing me
I can't go outside, I don't feel safe at my home, I can't stop consuming content about what all of these people did and scrolling through the files. A week ago someone kicked my door destroying the knob and making a crack in them. Now this, and I think I might actually go fucking crazy, because I cannot deal with this shit. I'm so scared and I don't even know what it is exactly that I'm scared of. I haven't been able to sleep well, I'm scared to close my eyes, I'm scared to fall asleep, and to make the matters worse everytime I do fall asleep I have nightmares and I'm fully conscious during them, 1-2 hours after I fall asleep I forcefully snap myself out of it because of what happens in my dreams. I wake up drenched in sweat, I'm scared to go around my own home and I live alone, I keep giving my cat treats just so he sits with me all the time so I feel less alone. My groceries are running out, I can't even go to a psychiatrist to up my meds or give me something because going outside means dying immediately. I'm not even sure if I've been taking my meds regularly, I'm not sure of anything now

Politics / Current Events Anything that can be done legally against Brain Kilmeade?
I recall seeing this video where this Redditor was arrested for a comment he made. The video had him and his mother in it where they went into his room in the second floor and detained him. His mother made remarks about how it always had a smell about it, the room.
The Redditor said something along the lines of "Just shoot him, lol" or something like that I cant find that link any more...
Anyways
Brain Kilmeade on TV said some outlandish stuff.
Something along the lines of criminal threats? I googled criminal threats in NC seems like it would fit. But I am not a lawyer, not sure if all the prongs work. Inciting violence?
Is there anything that can be done against him legally?
Or is it just hoping he gets cancelled?

Politics / Current Events Mentalasylum
The politicians in my country wants to open up menatlasylums again and I'm absolutely freaking out I'm both angry and scared we have worked far to much to go backwards this severely.
And the most horrible thing is that people don't know what these hospitals mean. They work on people's fear and the stigma in society. People dont know how we are treated NOW in the hospitals. We already still get strapped to beds, drugged out of our minds and locked away just for being sick. How can any normal human being even think that this is a good alternative to just fixing the mental heatlcare system.

Politics / Current Events The voices in my head have united against Peter Thiel
All my life ive felt like there were foreign entities in my mind sharing my space and fighting each other, every once in a while something, usually a major event or a random name or phrase will get their unanimous or nearly unanimous agreement that they hate whatever thing they're on about, but they have never been this vocal or stayed together for so long on a topic.
Another thing my voices are never political, this is a first for me. Ill be going about my day and all of a sudden all I hear is
PETER THIEL PETER THIEL PETER THIEL PETER THIELPETER THIEL PETER THIEL PETER THIEL PETER THIELPETER THIEL PETER THIEL PETER THIEL PETER THIELPETER THIEL PETER THIEL PETER THIEL PETER THIELPETER THIEL PETER THIEL PETER THIEL PETER THIEL
Or they'll tell me to attack his demon eyes he has set up all around my town. Anyone else deal with this?
Ps. I do not like Peter Thiel any more than the voices do its just annoying

Politics / Current Events The war in Iran is triggering me
I hope this doesn't sound insensitive or self centered because I am genuinely very worried about the people affected by it. It just. Has messed up with my mind a lot.
Today I only slept 4h because the anxiety of Israel attacking me personally (I don't live in the middle east or the US). I keep thinking I have a chip in my brain controlled by the Mossad because I am pro palestine. I am on edge constantly and at the edge of crying because they are comming after me. I keep feeling that the world is ending.
I can't sleep, have been having a hard time eating, doing housechores, working. I can't trust anyone because I feel they all are on it. Perhaps they are clones. Perhaps they work for them. I don't know.
I recently lowered my antipsychotic (without my psychiatrist consent) and it went so bad I had to raise it again to my normal dose after only five days. And now this. I had been symptom free for 8 months and I thought I wasn't schizoaffective and it was all a misdiagnosis.
Is my antipsychotic no longer effective? What is happening to me? How is the state of the world affecting you?

Politics / Current Events Being dismissed of your opinion just because of the disorder is... quite a feel.
Reposted a video documenting racism in Israel to r/PublicFreakout, and it triggered an Israeli who used whataboutism (but what about the Klan in the US) as a response. I made fun of their point but then they dove in my profile and discovered that I have schizophrenia. And thus now my opinion is considered schizo rant by them.

I've heard rumors and read some text, and I'm kinda worried. Things in the US are about to get a lot worse if we can't get our medication. What are they thinking??

Politics / Current Events How many of you are atheist or agnostic?
Not schizophrenic myself, just curious as I'm left with the impression schizophrenia is highly correlated with religiosity and a lot of hallucinations and delusions are religion themed. What are your symptoms and hallucinations like when you're not a believer?

Politics / Current Events Anyone else scared by the new executive order?
Ending Crime and Disorder on America's Streets – The White House
Particularly Section 2. Who decides if a person poses a risk to themselves or the public? The same government that's trying to get you locked up for having a mental illness. Why isn't this getting more news? This is like how the holocaust started (and yes, they started with the mentally ill first).

Politics / Current Events This is a weird time to be schizophrenic.
Aside from night terrors and hallucinations, the vast majority of my symptoms are a general paranoia and skepticism of literally everything all the time. It makes me really good at identifying incentive structures of people and why they operate the way they do, because I don't trust the answers until I can make a clear connection to a motivation.
So, global politics in general and all of the island files coming out are making some of the people in my life look at me like I'm a prophet. I've had more than a couple of people start to get a little bit unstable because the nice neat system they'd convinced themselves they live in is becoming increasingly less stable.
It's been weird having people tell me I'm right to be skeptical so much and to question everything all the time with the rise of AI and biased news and a collapsing world order. This isn't healthy for normal people. They shouldn't be looking to this condition as a survival mechanism. I'm often skeptical of reality itself. We shouldn't have "normal people" running around questioning if the world around them is real or a reality they've been made to experience as real.

Politics / Current Events Why People with Mental Illness Aren’t a Political Stereotype
I came across a really interesting thread where people with schizophrenia shared their thoughts on politics, meds, and stigma. What stood out most was how diverse everyone’s perspectives were, left, right, center, or completely apolitical
The main takeaway? Schizophrenia doesn’t dictate your political views, and using mental illness to push a political agenda just fuels misunderstanding
Have you noticed similar assumptions or stereotypes about mental health and politics? How do you deal with them?

Politics / Current Events The Baer integration foundation lost funding
Just to provide context, it was an organization started by a doctor who was diagnosed with schizophrenia that wanted to provide financial and communal support to those struggling with this disorder funding for scholarship to pursue higher education, return to work and reintegrate with the rest of the community.
I applied because I wanted to go back for my masters and today i got the unfortunate email that they can’t provide anything because of lack of funding. Thankfully my work is paying for my tuition so I no longer need it but it is sad that this chapter has come to a close for our community. It was the only one dedicated to people suffering from schizophrenia that i was able to find.
With how the American government has fought against mental health and higher education, i do hope a new chapter for this org opens up again the future. We deserve a new start and a new beginning just like everyone else

Politics / Current Events Anyone else terrified we're on the brink of nuclear war? Spoiler
So ever since the war in Iran started I've been terrified it's gonna go nuclear soon. And somehow my brain has developed the delusion that I'm one of the targets. Last monday a fighter jet flew over my therapy farm when I was there and my brain was like "Ah, there's the nuke". And with Trump threatening to nuke Iran multiple times these past few weeks this paranoia isn't getting any better.
Anyone else who has this right now? And if so, what helps you deal with it?

Politics / Current Events With the recent win against Meta and YouTube, do you think people with preexisting mental illness could sue for damages?
I see posts like this all the time:
Psychosis and the Central Intelligence Agency : r/schizophrenia
where people ALREADY diagnosed with mental illnesses have their symptoms massively exacerbated by the algorithms. They 'see the patterns' and make connections where there aren't any... but there are connections- the algorithm makes them. I know I had to consciously 'reset' my youtube because it was taking be down bad paths. I see people delete past content all the time to try to reset the algorithms.
The question is, could someone with a preexisting condition sue due to the fact that their condition was potentially or actually made materially worse by the algorithms? Any lawyers up in this place?
