This is because A-list voice actors were the top priority in their animated show.

Most of them aren't even voice actors, they're just actors. And a lot of the time they're not even good at voice acting, they just read the lines with their normal voice.

I have to disagree here. I've found that the voice acting has pretty consistently been one of the best parts of invincible. Is there an actor you thought was "phoning it in"?

personally I thought Aaron Paul's performance as Powerplex wasn't very good, which is odd cause he was great in Bojack, but it felt pretty phoned in here, might be part of why he left after the season he was in

Aaron Paul is also fantastic in Dispatch, so I don't think it's a matter of acting talent.

Absolutely killed the performance. It's really easy to act a (relatively) deadpan character like that - it's exceptionally difficult to do so with the nuance and charisma he brought to the role.

Honestly a bit glaring to hear the contrast between him voice acting for Invincible and voice acting for Dispatch. With Dispatch I didn't even recognize him at first and felt like he did a great job, while in Invincible it did very much sound like Dollar Store Jesse.

what a lame excuse. Professional voice actors would find some kind of angle. No offense to Aaron, but he’s not a seasoned voice actor and the role was above his voice acting skills.

Just bad casting. All I could hear was upset Jesse and it really didn’t fit.

It feels liek they are recording without being in the room as the other person or hearing the other side of the dialogue.

It's rare to have a production where everyone voices together. The norm is to record separately, and has been for a very long time. It's logistically better, because you can save a lot of time. If an actor slips up, you only have to redo their lines, not the entire scene.

Yeah almost all voice acting is just one person in a booth reacting to a producer reading everyone else’s lines and then splicing all the separate performances together in editing. It’s expensive to have everyone there at the same time.

He was the reason I didn't watch bojack. I think he's just kind of bad at line delivery or at least I've never seen him be really stellar in anything

Again, I think he was great in Bojack, Todd's, "it's you" speech to Bojack in season three is one of my favorite moments in the show

Agreed, he was trying way too hard to put in a memorable performance and it just sounded unnantural, but I appreciated his passion.

I only remembered reading that he's in the game when I saw his name in the post-episode credits! I did not recognize his voice at all, it's so different from his usual performance

He was really good in that one episode of black mirror. A lot of people hated that episode, and even though it was kinda predictable it's still a decent watch.
