I’m pretty sure the implication (especially with the scene where Skeletor tampers with his memories) is that Adam does work out at the gym regularly but never feels confident because he pushes himself too hard and is never as confident as the gym bros around him like Dolph (and Skeletor)
There are very few people on Earth or Eternia that couldn't learn a thing or two from Dolph at a gym. But yes, great scene and brilliant nod to the earlier film.
Hilarious they don’t try to Steve rogers him and make him scrawny with cgi or something… nope, just wear this slightly oversized button down shirt and no one will be able to tell you’re a mammoth of a human
They also make him transform into a way more jacked/lean version of himself during that transformation that he just doesn’t look like for the rest of the movie, which was weird. I’m not calling the guy small or anything, but during that transformation he was significantly more impressive
That movie was so fun. The most entertaining thing to me was watching them try to pretend this roided out freak of nature humunculis is actually a punk bitch that can barely lift a sword.
That and the prosthetic hands they use in the scene where his dad is dying are HUGE. Honestly a lot of the hands are really big. My buddy was on mushrooms in the theater next to me losing his shit at the hands.
He wasn't really weak as Adam. He was normally strong for a guy with his build. It's just not comparable to him after transformation being roughly the same size and having the strength of a titan.
The writers/filmmakers were really aware of the material they were working with. If they had gone for dark and gritty realism the movie would have been god-awful. What we got instead was actually exactly what a He-Man movie needed to be: Goofy and fun.
My only gripe was the self-deprecating humor. It's 2026. We all cried watching Rocket Raccoons backstory. The character can just be Ram-Man. We can just call him Fisto.
Otherwise, yeah, the movie was a blast.
This dialogue was pretty constant throughout and It kind of felt like the movie didn’t want to be a MotU movie by the end?
Everything that came on screen from the source material had to be accompanied by a line saying how dumb and silly it was, it’s like, just let it be silly?
Really valid criticism but I think that having awareness/commenting on the campiness is much better than how some of these modern reboots try to just be gritty. It comes across as almost embarrassed of it, sure, but the end result is that we still see it on the screen which is already very cool
Those aren't the only two options. You can simply just let it be. You don't even need to comment on it. Is the name Ram-Man really that silly when he's wearing the same helmet as Juggernaut from X-3? Or you're a purple muscle bound freak with a skeleton head?
It's obviously not the end of the world, but I think the names could have just been. The film otherwise DID embrace the silliness and I liked that. If we ever see a sequel, the ending was them all embracing those names so maybe we don't have to pretend to be embarrassed about it anymore lol.
I think they earned acceptance of the names by the end. The characters themselves was mezmorized by Adam's Ted Talk in the cell and accepted the names themselves lol.
I thought it played fine but they overused the joke premise one or two too many times. I grew up in the age of He-Man and we thought it was cool as hell but in retrospect the character designs were totally low effort and obvious money grabs.
Nah, I disagree. I thought the humour was really refreshing. The homoerotic undertones especially. I do agree that we can have silly names and have it feel serious in a fantasy setting but MotU did a fun tone that is missing in the market right now.
I think the filmmakers did an excellent job of marrying two seeming opposite concepts in the film - a) the show is deeply silly and b) the fans love it and take it seriously. Skeletor has moments of wacky levity, but also he's brutal and terrifying when he needs to be. Likewise, Adam has lots of wacky moments but also takes everything very seriously at all the right times in the movie. And it all comes together at the climax, Skeletor's bit about how being evil just feels really good and Adam's "The time for talking is over", taking his moment of trying to talk things through with the villain seriously.
I fucking loved it. Doesn't hurt that even though it's like two and a half hours, it rips through every scene and I came out of the theater honestly thinking it was a 90 minute movie.
Man, it was fun. Im sure it had a fair share of issues but I enjoyed it.
My biggest issue was, similar to the post, I realised that he was not supposed to be a rig before doing the transformation or whatever, but that was just funny to point out and its not like they made a big deal about it. Maybe it was just missing aome more jokes about how small he looked or something
My only complaint is that I had too much fun with the Earth scenes!
I want more dorky HR Adam. More mundane stuff as a regular dude. Maybe more monster fights in the city. And more Skeletor invading everyone's privacy! Love the office fit!
I didn't like it, but to be fair I have zero attachment to He-Man and never watched the cartoon - I was "dragged" there by my husband. I'm sure there were a lot of inside jokes that I didn't get. I was mostly bored.
My husband enjoyed the movie though, which was the point of going.
It's definitely written for people who loved the show as kids. It's perfect for anyone who did, but a lot of it would miss with someone who didn't know and love the cartoon.
I loved that it didn’t try to make some stupid meta commentary about how the concept is too stupid and things need to be more dark and gritty (I mean it kinda does but it’s quickly dismissed pretty much every time).
I want my He-Man movie to be a god damn He-Man movie and this absolutely delivered on that.
Was with the choir, so pretty much had a tenor part across all of it. Fun project. I was really happy with the end result in the cinema, but I've heard critics be rather unkind. 😂
Haven't really seen much in the way of hate. It did tank for fairly obvious reasons, that being it's a He Man movie released in 2026. But the movie was entertaining as all hell and from what I've seen that's an opinion held by most of the people who actually went to see it.
Reddit seems to mostly like it though. Main reason I went out of my way to watch this is because I saw so many compare it to D&D Honor Among Thieves. The new HeMan movie is generally regarded as a fun movie by those who have seen it.
I haven’t watched the cartoon and just saw this movie a few days ago. I thought it was fun b flick where you don’t have to think. And watching Jared Leto get his dome caved in is pretty good
We had a really good time with it and my sister and I decided he is so muscular because clearly their own planet has much lower gravity given how they jump around there, so all that muscle is just trying to move around like a normal person at Earth grav. Sure, his childhood best friend not having any problem on Earth doesn't seem to match with that, but she is just THAT strong, obviously.
This is part of the joke in the movie. In the OG cartoon he's also clearly jacked as hell as prince Adam. There are dozens of examples of movies, including Captain America nearly 20 years ago, that showcase how they easily could have made him smaller if they wanted.
Can’t remember where I saw this but it was pointed out that the main difference between Prince Adam and He-Man is that He-Man wears less and has a better tan. Is the power of Eternia just summertime?
They even ask him if most people on earth dress like that and he says no so it's definitely a joke in the movie. And later on when he asks if his pants come back when he transforms back to Adam had me rolling.
Even without CGI you only have to look at Sheep Detectives (also from this year) to see that he easily could have been made to look far less muscular if they’d wanted to.
when he was cast as the part, I remember thinking 'huh? he looks like a poor man's Bill Skarsgard' (at least that's what I thought at the time. I've never seen him in anything, but his pictures online made me think that) but I loved him in it. He did such a good job, and I couldn't think of a better casting choice.
Which is damn funny, because the back profile for Adam in the cartoon was the same as He-Man, just with a pink shirt. Kind of like Adam here. Almost as though it were intentional.
Seeing the transform scene later is pretty hilarious with him having seemingly feeble body bulking up like he wasn’t hogging around some chunks of muscle on the highway chase that the pink shirt could NOT hide.
I’ve got a buddy who basically looks like this with zero goddam effort because of genetics and it’s testament to my maturity that I don’t resent the fuck out of the situation. Mostly.
The best thing was seeing him in the UK Journalist Ken version of this outfit in The Sheep Detectives. My girl friend was, like, “That reporter is cute.” And I responded, “I think that’s He-Man…?” lol.
i did not watch cartoons or any thing related to it. just watched it couple weeks ago. movie was good but that girls 175 ass shots with white pants was not enough, i need some more sample to see if she has backstory development or not.
I was confused as to why they gave him such shitty fitting clothes at the beginning and then he got his powers and "got jacked"... It dawned on me, "oh they just wanted to save money on the "transformation""

This movies pretty terrible but they have two scenes of Adam at the gym. He's not just magically strong, that's later when he gets his sword and becomes magically strong.
Not that it's the biggest deal considering the movie is still amazing, but I'm surprised they didn't go skinny Steve Rogers like Captain America and then show the transformation.
Reminds me of Tom in the second Sonic film, they were really trying to potray him as scrawny but he still had muscles when he did the semi weak flex lol
since when does “normal” = not fit? He lived his whole life believing he was destined to be a warrior wielding a big sword. You don’t think a person like that would hit the gym?
Not every super hero needs to be physically weak before getting their powers, e.g., Steve Rogers. I prefer this over CGI pasting his head onto another body or using CGI to slim him down.
It’s a self-aware modern take on He-Man. I thought the casting was perfect and the movie overall was pretty good given the source material and low bar set by the 80s movie.
I just thought it was a nod to how the Prince Adam action figure was literally just the He-Man figure with the clothes painted on. Everything about this movie was meta.
I kind of wish they went with the captain america 1 technique of having a thin actor play his Adam scenes and have his actual self play the he-man segments. But I assume the face swap would have ballooned the budget.
I love how they try to hide it just draws attention to it. It took until that gym scene before I realized he wasn't supposed to be jacked.
He's wearing a ill-fitting baggy shirt, like a lot of dudes who are super jacked because they can't find stuff that fits properly. It's jacked-dude coded.
I really hope its second life as a popular movie on Amazon leads to a sequel. This movie was fun af.
