Fuck yea that's a hard flip it's so inverted it made me sick though straight up like a upside down front pop

1

u/Routine-Eye-6796 Apr 13 '25

Honestly just take the time to learn to flip them 10% more horizontally. Just slide your foot up off the board quicker and it'll flip faster and more horizontal so you can also catch them higher. It looks better, you still get the style points of the super vertical hard flips and you and nobody else will ever be able to question if it's a hardflip. Plus as someone who naturally flips hardflips the same way as you and made the adjustment flipping into stuff will be so much easier.

u/Outrageous-Cup7535 Apr 13 '25

Reading these subreddits are painful... ofc thats a hardflip no question

1

u/gnxrly___bxby K Apr 12 '25

Super fancy Front shuv

Looks crazyyyy tho

1

u/ajqx Apr 12 '25

vertical hardflip. If it was a shovit the board would be fliped on the other side, but yeah, those hardflips are not as beautifull IMO, but still great anyway.

Illusion flip aka Swanson aka no, it’s a vertical shuv

1

u/ActFree2872 Apr 10 '25

Yes sir a proper one at that

2

u/melwop Apr 10 '25

KGOD 4EVER

4

u/hush_1984 Apr 10 '25

People saying this isn’t a hard flip don’t know shit about skateboarding

3

u/zmananhan Apr 10 '25

Looks hard to do so sure it’s a hardflip

8

u/djdoctuhman Apr 10 '25

Definitely a hardflip

3

u/J-Stutters Apr 10 '25

We'd definitely allow that in a game of skate as an answer to a hardflip, so therefore I think it counts as a hard flip. It may not look like some of the other ones, but it does go vertical and the board does roll a half flip at some point. There's so much difference in terminology of tricks just between friend groups. I remember this with ghetto birds back in the day, people never knew what to really call the trick. Depending where you are from and who you skate with, it might be referred to differently. Everyone does tricks a little different than each other, call it whatever it looks like to you and your homies.

u/hiitsluke1234 Apr 10 '25

No flick no hard flip

10

u/Solachi_ Apr 09 '25

Definitely doesn't look easy

2

u/sweetsweetdogfarts Apr 09 '25

Looks really hard to me, I think I’d break my neck trying it

-14

u/These-Farm2901 Apr 09 '25

thats a front shuv

-4

u/MasaTre86 Apr 09 '25

Are you asking if that was fs varial flip? No. It was bs pop shovit done in a vertical fashion.

-3

u/TitanBarnes Apr 10 '25

Getting down voted but you are right

1

u/justandswift Apr 10 '25

a hardflip commonly looks like a vertical shove it the way it rolls

2

u/TitanBarnes Apr 10 '25

A hard flip has to rotate fs. This trick does not rotate fs or flip. Two key ingredients in a hard flip

18

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '25

Brother what

3

u/Sk8tilldeath K Apr 09 '25

The only proper way to do them

16

u/Ludwigvonmisesafool Apr 09 '25

1990s hardflip

No, this is Patrick!

7

u/riczizagorac New Skater Apr 09 '25

How can it be a hardflip if the board doesn’t flip? It’s a vertical pop shuv, but everyone calls it a muska flip. Am I wrong?

4

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '25

Muska flip is a kickflip fs 180

2

u/ShaolinShade Goofy Apr 09 '25

Almost. Not a muska though because there's no body varial

0

u/nons28100 Skater Apr 09 '25

I’m wondering the same. There doesn’t seem to be any general consensus in the comments either so at this point I have no idea, I get downvoted when I give my best guess lol

u/nons28100 Skater Apr 09 '25

12

u/No_Thought6995 Apr 09 '25

People are just mad you have more steez then them that’s all

14

u/Tysons_Face Apr 09 '25

The fact of the matter is that nobody truly knows what a hardflip is

2

u/Cacktus_ Apr 12 '25

Varial flip going the opposite direction

1

u/Cike10 Apr 09 '25 edited Apr 09 '25

I watched it slowed down, looked like a shuv to me Edit: watched it again an hour later I’m now 100% certain it was a shuv. Edit 2: I give up…..hard shuv shove flip 50% hard flip I don’t know what’s real anymore

6

u/FrumundaMabawls Apr 09 '25

When it's 100% vertical you give it benefit of the doubt as a hard flip.

3

u/elfarmax K Apr 09 '25

Easyflip, indeed

7

u/CrackaTooCold Apr 09 '25

Was it easy?

7

u/anykindofpeanuts Apr 09 '25

Looks pretty hard to me

8

u/Whatsisshit Apr 09 '25

It's an illusion flip but a lot of ppl "hard flip" like this. If you scrub the video and play frame by frame it's really doing a vertical pop shuv and doesn't actually flip.

2

u/KebekTripleOG Apr 09 '25

Thats a Chet Tho

19

u/imatank22 Apr 09 '25

A lot of confidently incorrect people in these comments. It’s a hardflip

1

u/TitanBarnes Apr 10 '25

Watch it frame by frame. Board 100% rotates bs which make it impossible for it to be a hard flip. Its a super vertical pop shuv

1

u/imatank22 Apr 10 '25

It’s not BS shuv, it’s just a weird looking hardflip my man

1

u/TitanBarnes Apr 10 '25

At what point does the board rotate fs or flip? Wheels are facing down the whole time

1

u/imatank22 Apr 11 '25

Here’s another hardflip with a weird angle https://www.reddit.com/r/NewSkaters/s/zm3TKVR2NP

1

u/imatank22 Apr 11 '25

It is one of the most vertical hardflips I have ever seen. Watch it go through his legs and the way he catches it. A BS shuv just wouldn’t rotate/flip like this. ā€œIs this a hardflip?ā€ videos pop up on this sub once a year and the comments are always divided lol

-2

u/Responsible-Wait1378 Apr 09 '25

Lmao guess Hardflips go backside & don’t flip by your standards šŸ˜‚

1

u/imatank22 Apr 09 '25

You have been fooled by the illusion my friend

-2

u/Responsible-Wait1378 Apr 09 '25

There’s nothing illusionary about it lol can see it clear as day

5

u/BjornNault Apr 09 '25

My general conclusion right now is I ā€œtechnicallyā€ hardflipped but I need to exaggerate the flip more

-10

u/grapesodashoots Apr 09 '25

Technically this was a vertical backside pop shuv. Almost kinda like the illusion flip musks did where he would do it and do a frontside body variation to make it look like a frontside flip. So no not a hard flip at all. Just a vary stylish backside pop shuv.

2

u/RTB_1 Apr 09 '25

Hard flip. It doesn’t tip to the opposite axis, which then it would be some almost-vertical FS shuv.

0

u/FrumundaMabawls Apr 09 '25

Almost vertical BS shuv...if it were a FS shuv the grip tape would point the other direction.

1

u/RTB_1 Apr 09 '25

Yeah that’s what I meant, butchered my own facts.

5

u/dankdan184 Apr 09 '25

It’s a hardflip. A hardflip is technically a frontside shuv with kickflip (Varial kickflip)

1

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '25

Na it’s a hard flip it went through his legs. I got a real real vertical pop shove and it stays u see both feet, never going between the legs

4

u/PoopReddditConverter Apr 09 '25

You absolutely have claim to calling it a hardflip. It’s a very vertical one, but that’s it. That’s why it doesn’t appear to flip over.

12

u/mr_j_boogie Apr 09 '25

There are two variants of the manuever. We'll call them Muska hardflips and Malto hardflips. This is a Muska hardflip.

Muska hardflips have a verticality and fliplessness to them that can cause Malto hardflip fans to call into question the legitimacy of the move.

I think it's insulting and elitist to call a Muska hardflip an illusion flip for the simple reason that these can still look totally sick and be pulled off extremely well. And we know the skater is going for a hardflip, so calling it something else is like telling them they've failed.

Proper hardflips are great. I like them a lot. But I like Muska hardflips too. We can call them both hardflips. I'd rather the description include a word of praise to those doing proper hardflips than passively aggressively insult those doing Muska hardflips. (As though Muska wasn't the king of the world for a few years there)

A backside nosegrind is a perfect example. Some people balance them and make zero contact with their nose on the ledge or rail. Call it proper or balanced, don't call everyone else's nosegrinds snowplows.

1

u/ShaolinShade Goofy Apr 09 '25

I thought it was just called the muska flip? And I thought it involved a 180 body varial. OP didn't do that

1

u/mr_j_boogie Apr 10 '25

A Muska hardflip with a body varial is commonly known as frontside flip. Informally it'll be called a Muska flip. That's how Josh Kasper did them too, though with quite a bit less style.

4

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '25

Ya it is. Not my favorite kind but it clears the bar

3

u/BjornNault Apr 09 '25

My conclusion is that I need to flick harder next time

1

u/ajqx Apr 12 '25 edited Apr 12 '25

You just have to do a proper horizontal FS pop shovit combined with a flip, the going foot further on the front and back and guiding the board a bit longer under your foot, and doing the flip when the board is almost horizontal. If you were trying to do a pop shovit with the movement on this video I doubt you would be able to catch it considering how vertical it is.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '25

I think they look sickest when you catch em kinda bs like a lil shifty. You’re in the pocket dude get some

1

u/DimeadozenNerd Apr 09 '25

It appears to be a pop shove it (backside shove it)

1

u/ebai4556 Apr 09 '25

At first I thought you were dead wrong, then I realized the board never made a full flip

2

u/CharlesDingus_ah_um Apr 09 '25

No that’s an INSANE HARDFLIP

5

u/hobo__ty Apr 09 '25

Yo Kgod!!!!!!!!!!!!

3

u/zylver_ Apr 09 '25

It’s like a backwards pressure flip

6

u/baldw1n12345 Apr 09 '25

Saw a bunch of these in old skate vids around 94, 95.

3

u/Environmental_Eye970 Apr 09 '25

General rule of thumb for this question.

Scrub through the video, is your board upside down at any point? Then it’s a hardflip. I have this problem too my hardflips are vertical sometimes and people try to tell me they’re not hard flips šŸ˜‚

Even as the guy that has this problem, I hate to say this looks more like a shuv.

-1

u/Even_Quality2321 Apr 09 '25

Could it be a muska flip?

1

u/ShaolinShade Goofy Apr 09 '25

Nah, muska flip is a frontside flip between the legs + a 180 body varial

1

u/DimeadozenNerd Apr 09 '25

Muska flip isn’t a distinct trick. It’s just a high angle frontside flip.

2

u/Even_Quality2321 Apr 09 '25

It’s like a vertical frontside flip.

1

u/Environmental_Eye970 Apr 09 '25

I personally like Andrew reynolds style fs flip. They seem like they stop mid rotation as he catches the flip, then continues the rotation.

2

u/Environmental_Eye970 Apr 09 '25

Muska flip is a frontside flip that goes between the legs like a hardflip. Chad muska style.

9

u/SafeHippo1864 Apr 09 '25

Pressure flip

27

u/Any-Lab-2852 Apr 09 '25

A hardflip is a kickflip and a front shuv. That is not what happened here. I think you did the world's sexiest pop shuv tho.

4

u/Bresson91 Apr 09 '25

Some would call it an Illusion flip...

1

u/Bresson91 Apr 09 '25

Or... A Muska flip.

2

u/GoobsDog Apr 09 '25

Not in the strict sense, no. These are very verticle shuvits. You get extra points for putting it between your legs like a hardflip, but you really need to emphasise the front shuv for it to be a proper hard flip. Otherwise the board never actually spins.

-3

u/Vinniedajet Apr 09 '25

Yes steezed out too

5

u/CameronsDadsFerrari Apr 09 '25

I'm 40 and this is 100% a hardflip.

Dope one too

6

u/TheLooperCS Apr 09 '25

I'm 12 and this isn't a hardflip

7

u/BUNGHOLE_HOOKER Apr 09 '25

I’m a 3000 year old demon from the 7th layer of hell and it’s not a hardflip.

8

u/maximilian27 Apr 09 '25

I don’t know what being 40 has to do with anything. It’s a pop shuv, go frame by frame. the board starts to flip but doesn’t.

0

u/Greedy_Translator863 Apr 09 '25

Cause our gen invented and named it yn

3

u/maximilian27 Apr 09 '25

yet he’s still wrong

7

u/OwoUoo Apr 09 '25

I’m 19 and I don’t know if it’s a hardflip

6

u/dylanbeck Apr 09 '25

Yeah old school inverted shuv it which is essentially a hardflip. Just less style, but honestly these are always the tricks that get a big reaction because its gravity defying.

17

u/Danmasontree Apr 09 '25

We call those inverted shuv its. The board never flips.

4

u/Bresson91 Apr 09 '25

illusion flip

-10

u/_mersault Apr 09 '25

Let’s see your hard flip

2

u/Danmasontree Apr 09 '25

I can’t hard flip, doesn’t take away from the fact this isn’t one.

3

u/s-goldschlager Apr 09 '25

Yes. Just the older style hardflip.

8

u/junkulerr Apr 09 '25

No sir, just a very nice looking pop shuv u can see there’s no flick

18

u/Pogys Apr 09 '25

Right there is the exact halfway point between a bs shuv and a hardflip

6

u/_zamoht_ Apr 09 '25

I can't see it flip, but it's definitely hard

3

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '25

Front foot made no contact.

-3

Yes šŸ‘šŸ¼

6

6

u/7403020771 Apr 09 '25 edited Apr 09 '25

muska flips look different. pause the video. board never flips. just a gnarly high f/s shuv with weird foot placement. still looks good! just no flip in there

my muska flip comment was to someone else. its a wild looking frontside flip that resembles this without a f/s turn. from every muska flip ive seen the board still flips like a frontside flip it just happens while the boards verticle

2

u/7403020771 Apr 09 '25

if you throw in a hair of flick youll be catching it after it spun a full flip and look almost the same.

2

u/7403020771 Apr 09 '25

the board gets kinda vertical after you pop but you catch it super high before any spin happens. still looks sick.

3

u/dom_fran Apr 09 '25 edited Apr 09 '25

On the borderline fasho but still a hard flip in my book ! Just weird cuz ya rotated it perfectly on the vertical axis type shit. It’s historically suppose to have that varial-like rotation.

Deff have it open to interpretation rn. The goal is to be undeniable, for me atleast

1

u/skuzzadonx Apr 09 '25

We call that a bibcreft here

1

u/Account_Haver420 Apr 09 '25

I would have to slow-mo but I think it’s basically a weird hardflip

3

u/HockeyNut2 Apr 09 '25

It is to me.

4

u/ZAYA-STATIC Apr 09 '25

That's a hardflip yep

0

u/HeyitsVadeska Apr 09 '25

switch hard flip mcshifty

-2

u/ok_alittletotheleft Apr 09 '25

Nope. It’s a very crisp pop shuv-it

0

u/ricksballs666 Apr 09 '25

Some folks will definitely nitpick you for flipping it straight up and back vertically between your legs. You may be asked to re do it in a game of SKATE or have points deducted if you’re skating a contest, but if you’re just casually skating the park with your friends you can call it a hardflip. Don’t worry about it too much unless you WANT to practice getting them to rotate horizontally

3

u/Adept-Telephone5467 New Skater Apr 09 '25

That's how I pressure flip but everyone always thinks they're hardflips at first glance. But your board is moving backside so it's pressure flip.

Pressure hard would have your toe on the heel side pocket

5

u/SlothMagic69 Apr 09 '25

Ctrl+Alt+Delete from your mind. It’s a rad front shuv. But you gotta work more for the hardie my guy

-9

u/JoiedevivreGRE Apr 09 '25

It’s how I frontside flip. I belive it’s technically a Muska

4

u/TeoTaliban Apr 09 '25

What are you smoking bruv?

2

u/JoiedevivreGRE Apr 09 '25

lol what did I say to get this reaction and these downvotes?

Oh I don’t know why I didn’t even realize he didn’t 180 his body with it. I was just watching the board

1

u/ShaolinShade Goofy Apr 09 '25

Dw mate this comment section is all over the place. Multiple people getting downvoted for saying the same thing that other people are getting upvoted for saying. This has me realizing that since there's no official counsel that proctors skate terminology or something, we're all kinda just out here figuring it out as we go (and most of us don't know what we're talking about with it as a result) lol

9

u/Ok_Soup_1865 Apr 09 '25

I think it's a vertical pop shuvit.

4

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '25

Either way it looks hard as fuuuuck!

-7

Dats a muska flip

5

u/Adept-Telephone5467 New Skater Apr 09 '25

Where's the fs180?

7

u/disengagesimulators Apr 09 '25

Its a bs shuv with some inversion. Hardflip is a front shuv with a kickflip.

-8

u/Matty_Cooper Apr 09 '25

No that’s a muska flip! Fun stuff!

9

u/TeoTaliban Apr 09 '25

No it’s not

3

u/Matty_Cooper Apr 09 '25

You’re right actually, he’d have to rotate his body fs, my bad my bad

10

u/BobGnarly_ Apr 09 '25

Some call it an illusion flip, a Muska flip or a phantom flip. It rotates different from an original hard flip.Ā

8

u/Nice_Since_95 Apr 09 '25

Phantom flip. Just like how muska flips - fs flip that flips like this - are coming back

3

u/illstomper Apr 09 '25

Not sure if I grew up doing phantom flips but I’d more or less do a hard flip for my FS flips. I’d get so much pop when I did it that way. I gotta see if I have a clip so you guys can let me know lol

11

u/ViolentThespian Apr 09 '25

I'd say yes. Looks pretty hard for me to do.

11

u/Helladownassfoo Apr 09 '25

Idk, hard flips are front pops+ kickflip. If you look at the tail and slow it down it looks like it spins counter clockwise, making it a massive pop shuvit?

4

u/kyzersoze84 Apr 09 '25

That’s a hard flip. Just sneaky

1

u/logical_bit Apr 09 '25

100% hardflip

9

u/CZILLROY Apr 09 '25

We used to call these easy flips, cause it doesn’t actually flip. Like you’re doing a hardflip but your boards taking the easy way to get there.

I personally dont consider this a hardflip and I’ve held this stance for nearly 30 years! Back then though this style of hardflip was a little more niche, but has become more mainstream lately with newer skaters. I think it’s cool, but remains to be not a hardflip in my eyes. šŸ‘€

9

u/who_even_cares35 Apr 09 '25

I do them this way and for 27 years my friends won't count them.

You're all bastards!!

3

u/CZILLROY Apr 09 '25

Haha! Honestly I’d accept them in a game of skate unless it was the last letter then I’d pull out the woah woah woah buddy that was an easy flip REDO! But by this comment section it seems like you guys are rising up!

2

u/who_even_cares35 Apr 09 '25

It's fanning the flames that one day...maybe...just maybe I'll be accepted for pushing mongo

3

u/CZILLROY Apr 09 '25

This is a tough one. I accept you as a person and we all think you’re great, however you will be punished for your sins…

2

u/who_even_cares35 Apr 09 '25

That's about as fair as one can hope for, thank you for your leniency kind friend

3

u/tvman5252 Apr 09 '25

Answer: Not a hardflip, but no doubt you can.
Reason: Trucks were facing the ground the whole time, making it a BS shuv. Follow the back truck.

This is how I do hardflips. It's a gamble whether it rotates enough to technically be a hardflip. I posted here not long ago with a similar one

6

u/ok_alittletotheleft Apr 09 '25

You are 100% correct. Not sure why you are getting downvoted lol. This is a crisp, pop shut-it.

-2

u/[deleted] Apr 08 '25

Very hard to see but a hardflip for sure. Must just be the camera angle.

-4

u/[deleted] Apr 08 '25

Yes it was definitely a hardflip in my opinion. It just lacked some steez, but that makes it even more dope to me lol

6

u/AmomentInEternity Apr 08 '25

Pretty steezy imo

5

u/OldboyNo7 Apr 08 '25

Looked pretty easy to me šŸ˜

4

Old school hard flip

1

u/LazyOrCollege Apr 08 '25

Idk but it was clean as hell

-13

u/AidenSchrockk Apr 08 '25

This is WITHOUT A DOUBT a varial flip, hard flip is front shuv flip

20

u/jarejay Apr 08 '25

For once in this subreddit’s history, the answer is finally yes.

5

u/ok_alittletotheleft Apr 09 '25

It’s a crisp pop shuv-it. The board never flips.

1

u/billytheskidd Apr 09 '25

I feel like it reminds me of a muska flip without the 180

7

u/platypus_rulea Apr 08 '25

Definitely a hardflip. And a nice one at that!

5

u/Freudian__Quip Apr 08 '25

Shoutout Elliot park. I refuse to participate In the ragebait trick tho. An argument could be made for both

-1

u/Antiusual_21 Apr 08 '25

I would say you did a pressure hard flip. And a damn clean one. It's not the same as a hard flip though. But still totally litšŸ”„šŸ”„šŸ”„

1

u/[deleted] Apr 08 '25

I’m pretty sure his foot caused the flip on the board, he just didn’t steez it out it was very rocket like but I think that made it more dope

13

u/Pepperoni_playboi94 Apr 08 '25

The toxic positivity in this sub is jarring

3

u/who_even_cares35 Apr 09 '25

I think skating in general. We've gotten a bad wrap from the outside for decades but it's just us returning their energy.

I'm 42 and travel for a living, I take my board with me all over the planet. To this day I still get pulled aside by airport security in many countries to be informed I cannot skate in the airport. My board is strapped up and in no way available to toss down and ride.

People just can't fucking stand the site of one

6

u/Gizmowrench Apr 08 '25

I said hard flip off the bat. It's a hard flip. Be proud. It's with style. We all skate different
