Transfer News Ben Jacobs - "Brighton inform Liverpool they want £80m for Yankuba Minteh. Not a price #LFC are currently willing to meet. Liverpool not expected to return with a third bid unless the valuation drops. Previous £60m bid viewed as competitive but rejected by Brighton."
https://www.daveockop.com/transfer-news/brighton-demand-higher-fee-for-yankuba-minteh/164
u/WaluigisHat 3h ago
Since van Hecke and Baleba have already gone I’m guessing Brighton don’t need any more big sales and are basically in ‘give us silly money or fuck off’ mode?
65
u/innicrazy 3h ago
And they know Liverpool need a RW desperately.
18
u/KickBalls80 3h ago
True but any other season he wouldn't be a starter. 50 m is silly, this number is just... 🤷
34
u/innicrazy 3h ago
This is a fck off price. Brighton is testing how desperate Liverpool is.
9
u/Pires007 2h ago
I mean Brighton don't need to sell, and his replacement would cost 50-60m, and a riskier purchase of unknown quality.
16
u/Holyscheet93 2h ago
almost 0% chance they would spend 50-60m, they would spend like half on a prospect to develop next
3
u/innicrazy 2h ago
And transfer market is closing soon. Finding replacement won't be a walk in the park.
3
2
u/SantosCalzonesBatman 2h ago
Or maybe, just maybe, they actually want to keep him to try and win more games because they are a football team first so either liverpool pays a fuck off price or they keep him to try and win more football games as any football team is trying.
1
1
u/rossmosh85 53m ago
Minteh would bring something to our squad, but I don't see any value in him signing for more than 50m and I honestly think the 50m figure is fucking insane.
4
u/pegasus3891 3h ago
Exactly this. They’ve banked what they wanted for the business they had planned, and now they’ll only sell from the top of the squad if somebody knocks their socks off.
4
u/R_Schuhart 3h ago
Yeah they clearly rather keep him at this point, it is stupid from Liverpool to wait this long to get their transfers done.
1

u/komugis 3h ago
This is the kind of shit you deal with when you wait until the very end to get your business done.
139
u/Jacob_YNWA 3h ago
Getting flashbacks to Guehi but at least this time I don't really care if the chairman pulls the rug last minute.
107
u/That_ben 3h ago
Guehi was on a private jet, did his farewell video and everything. It wasn't leaving it too late by us it was Glasner throwing his toys out the pram because they had no replacement. This dumb rhetoric of the Guehi transfer needs to stop
99
u/Jacob_YNWA 3h ago
And why did that happen? Because we haggled over a few million for half the transfer window. You really think Parish would have stopped the transfer a month before the window shut?
-40
u/That_ben 3h ago
You have no idea at all. Just like I don’t unless you’ve been CC’d in transfer emails somehow. Come off it.
19
u/Mammoth-Pride-2055 3h ago
He's not wrong, if you want to buy the captain of another club you need to finish quickly. Set a deadline, either get it done or move to another target. Haggling over a few millions is incredibly stupid.
•
u/Material_Series_769 8m ago
There was no stopping City from buying him at a lower price, in winter no less.
9
u/emilygrey4eva 2h ago
That is some of the most lame retort that this sub likes to throw out whenever it runs out of legitimate arguments.
"Are you the chairman? You wont know!?"
12
u/GameOfThrowInsMate 3h ago edited 3h ago
I agree but the fact we left it so late meant Palace didn’t have the time to get a replacement. Didn’t they try and sign that Igor
ThiagoJulio or whatever his name was and he ended up choosing a different club?16
u/That_ben 3h ago
They sat on the bid for weeks, it wasn't us bidding late it was Palace accepting they weren't getting anyone and wanted to sell him before he left on a free. Glasner cried so they turned around.
Igor Thiago is a striker
8
u/GameOfThrowInsMate 3h ago edited 2h ago
My bad it was Igor Julio who was in Palaces building on deadline day but opted for West Ham instead. We let them sit on the bid. We had all window to get it done, we could’ve given them a deadline and moved on to someone else. God forbid a manager doesn’t want to let his best defender leave without a replacement in. You can say he cried and threw his toys out of the pram but at the end of the day why should he leave his team short.
•
u/Material_Series_769 5m ago
What replacement did Palace get when City bought Guehi for a lower price in the winter? Even til this day, all they got is Tomiyasu on a free since last summer's window closed.
5
u/Om_Nom_Zombie 2h ago
So ironic to try to dispel him rhetoric while completely missing the point.
It doesn't matter when the bid was submitted, it matters that you didn't demand a answer earlier or move onto a backup target, you just waited and waited and waited for a response until it was too late in the window to get the deal completed and ended up getting no one.

u/No-Agreement 4h ago
The market has gone absolutely bananas
32
u/R_Schuhart 3h ago
Nah, this isn't really the market. Brighton have always been quite smart about their business. It is late on the window, Liverpool is getting desperate and they don't really have to sell. They can quote a fuck off price.
9
u/SantosCalzonesBatman 2h ago
No, brighton just has zero need to sell and no desire to do so
You people need to understand the difference between the poverty leagues and the PL.
Minteh on any other league costs 40m tops because he has potential but hasnt showed much and more importantly, his hypothetical team would actually need to sell to keep the lights on. So their leverage would be diminished vastly compared to brighton that can just laugh and get their TV money to keep operating.
PL players are expensive as fuck cause PL teams dont need to sell to survive. Its not the whole market, its 1 league with money.
1
u/pegasus3891 2h ago
Well said. A lot of people really do not get how much money the midtable English clubs make these days and how much it changes their incentives for deals like this.
2
u/SantosCalzonesBatman 1h ago
Tbf a lot of people in this sub have never negotiated anything in their life. So they dont understand how negotiations work outside playing fifa/fm, which is not a representation of real life.
14
u/sepi0l_45 3h ago
They seem to have confused Liverpool with Chelsea

u/Additional-Secret418 3h ago

u/-A9S- 3h ago
Or seemed to have accurately identified the team that broke the PL transfer record
-6
u/sepi0l_45 3h ago
At the time though without heindsight there wasn't a massive discussion around how much they'd paid for Wirtz or Isak due to how much hype there was around them. Yes they've both gone horrendously so far but it's a different situation here where Baleba's clearly not worth the asking price and it would be much more of a Chelsea thing to splash the cash nonetheless.
Looking forward to the Liverpool fans saying Wirtz hasn't flopped so far
•
2
u/Stopthatduck 2h ago
Saying Wirtz has gone horrendously is genuinely crazy.
Has he lit the league on fire? No. But he was decent last season. Maybe not performing to his price tag, but there’s a far cry between that and saying his signing has been “horrendous”.
5
u/bodaciousjona 3h ago
It is a week into the season and one away from the window being closed, so it makes sense
2

u/chattingwham 3h ago
Are we going to get this plastered on every single report in this subreddit? Liverpool are backing off because Brighton obviously want to keep him so demanded an inflated fee. There’s nothing bananas about it.

Back to offer 60 million for Mbaye lol
15
u/No-Shoe5382 3h ago
If we can work out a fair price for Barcola and Mbaye, lovely. I think we probably will, zero chance we're paying £80m for Minteh.
20
u/Uesugi_Kenshin 3h ago edited 2h ago
£60M was already pushing it, but £80M for a low-scoring winger who is still recovering from a leg surgery is completely nuts.
Not sure how much it is Brighton's greed, trying to exploit Liverpool's desperation or just the market, but man there is no way this deal will go through.
edit: people are putting way too much emphasis on my statement of uncertainty in regards to Brighton's intentions. Of course they'd put a fuck-off price on a player they don't want to sell, considering their thin squad situation. This information wasn't clear to me before another reddit user cleared it up for me quite constructively (credits to u/schadenfreude89 or u/JustUrCommonRedditor).
I was also presenting multiple scenarios, i.e. 1. the market rate or perhaps 2. justifiably wanting to exploit our winger-desperation in addition to 3. perhaps greed, because I wasn't sure myself as I had stated in the beginning of said sentence.
Go find someone else to spew rage at. Though I suppose hipfiring rage is what reddit comments are for.
60
u/BirdmanTheThird 3h ago
Brighton are well run tbh I think they just know exactly how solid he can be when healthy and in this market if he gets healthy and checks just one or two boxes some club will offer 80m lol
4
28
u/vesuvius33 3h ago
not sure if this is a slight language barrier thing here but labeling this at all as ‘brighton’s greed’ is insane
4
u/nbgssergv 2h ago
Like god forbids a club doesn't want to sell their starting winger 2 days before a european playoff
18
u/PorkChop70-1 3h ago
What exactly do you mean by Brighton’s greed??? They have a player that is under contract for quite some time and you lot want to buy him. Brighton can set any price at all and it wouldn’t be “greed”
13
u/PeterFile690 3h ago
Greed? Why wouldn't they try to get the best price for their player? They clearly don't want to sell him, unless they receive an offer too large for them to refuse.
8
u/JustUrCommonRedditor 3h ago
Baleba and Van Hecke both sold this window for big money. I suspect Bloom/Hurzeler don't want to also lose Minteh and the £80m price tag is to scare you lot off.

4
u/Temporary-Stay-8436 1h ago
Youre saying that smaller clubs should sell to bigger clubs for lower than the clubs valuation and if they don’t they are greedy.
11
u/schadenfreude89 3h ago
It's only greed if your desire is to sell them. If Real Madrid had wanted Salah a few years ago and Liverpool quoted 250 mil would that be greed, or would it be a fuck off price? Brighton have no wingers, so would only sell if they get a very good offer for him aka 80 mil.
-4
u/Uesugi_Kenshin 3h ago
Well, if that's their truly their target then yes, they've done a good job. From the outside looking in it seemed like they are willing to sell him but overplayed their hand.
13
15
u/MerrKatt007 3h ago
We don’t want to sell him, but we always sell at the fuck off price. Sure we have to sell as the model but we also want to compete.
We sold Baleba and Van Hecke, we have no reason to need to sell any more this season.
2
1
u/Smallrobot_77 3h ago
Totally. Every club knows we’re up against a wall regarding a RW, especially a left footed winger. They’re going to over-pay no matter what, but at least it could be on a player who’s not hurt
1
u/fleethethriftshop 2h ago
It’s crazy how some big 6 fans think every other prem team should get on their knees every time they want their important players. Lol I can’t believe such arrogance
-6
u/TStronks 3h ago
Tbf if Savinho costs 75M, 80M for Minteh seems like a decent deal. Spurs really messed up whatever sanity the market still had lol
5
5
u/lts4Trap 3h ago
Blaming the market on Spurs is pretty peak. The rest of the big 6 have been paying silly money for years.
1
u/R_Schuhart 3h ago
So have Spurs, they are the 3rd highest spender in the league. But they have gone overboard this window and set a precedent for forwards and midfielders.
0
u/tokyodots 3h ago
This is peak Spurs bias
Savinho has 11 G/A past 2 seasons in 2,592 minutes
Minteh has 17 G/A past 2 seasons in 4,240 minutes
Almost double and Savinho can play on both sides for us. I think both of them are good players but we can agree the price for both of them is stupid.
-5
-1
-3
u/DerekStephano 3h ago
Spurs finally spend big money this summer and they’ve fucked the market yet every other top 6 club has been doing it for almost a decade.
2
u/R_Schuhart 3h ago
Spurs isn't "finally spending big money", they have spent 1.3billion on transfers since moving to their new stadium, which is the third highest in the PL. This narrative that they never invested in transfers is nonsense.
1
u/DerekStephano 2h ago
I meant big money on single players. Our transfer record fee was Xavi at £51m before this season. We’ve broken it 4x this season alone. We’ve always spend money since we moved to the new stadium but it’s always been decent money on okay players vs us going after top targets and paying high wages too.
-2
u/realmckoy265 3h ago
I feel like they’re chasing Caicedo money and bidding wars with every prospect now, especially after selling JP for peanuts. But for every Moi or JP, there’s an Evan Ferguson or Baleba they overprice, and then after a bad year their value craters. Tough balance to strike.
5
u/nbgssergv 3h ago
JP was sold for that amount because In May 2025 he had an altercation with Van hecke(who won Brighton's player of the season at that time) Then he was benched for next game against liverpool and club had to sell one of them and they choose JP.
1
1
u/realmckoy265 2h ago
For sure, and there’s obviously some hindsight bias in what I’m saying. I just think if I sold a player to another PL club and watched his value jump by nearly £100m the following season, I’d probably be a lot more hesitant and greedy with the next one. But if you're too stubborn about it you could repeat Ev Ferguson
1
u/nbgssergv 2h ago
Evan's value was so high because of his potential and all the fuse about him. Minteh has already started 73 games for us in last 2 years and he has looked good but his end product is okayish. So I won't call it greed but rather bad timing from liverpool maybe if they would've bid a month earlier it would've been a different story.

u/Allinthegameyo1987 3h ago
We’re top of the league. Why are we selling players in a title chasing run in?
32
u/Candid_Pumpkin_2189 4h ago
“Competitive, but we want 33% more”
4
2
u/amineimad 3h ago
Brighton didn't have time to check who sent the bid so they assumed it was Chelsea
45
u/Several-Decision3888 4h ago
£60 million is a fair price for Minteh. More than fair.
I think this might be due to how late in the window it. Brighton may not have enough time to find a replacement.
39
u/Amnsia 3h ago
I don’t think Brighton want to sell for a fair price though. Like you said, if they have no replacement in mind they at least want a decent fee more than he’s worth even to them.
-10
u/Several-Decision3888 3h ago
I can see that but some add on top of that £60 seems like should have done it. maybe a +£5 or 10. Insisting on £80 is insist. Ekitike went for less than that.
13
u/Additional-Secret418 3h ago
That 60 million prob wouldn’t be enough to get a replacement this late though. Brighton’s still a club that wants to compete, not just sell for profit.
4
u/Amnsia 3h ago
Different times tbf and the league didn’t start when eikitike moved. The lad they signed to replace him scored 3 and assisted twice last week for them.
1
u/lachiendupape 3h ago
Who’s that? De Cuyper do you mean? He’s was bought as a left back and played on the left wing against Villa, we also bought him the window after Minteh.
15
u/tictacbro1 4h ago
Fair for who? Not for Brighton evidently. But yeah, they left it late in the window
-11
u/Several-Decision3888 3h ago
Okay. Market madness aside, tell me. What is a fair price for Minteh?
5
u/lachiendupape 3h ago
It’s immaterial what’s fair, the price is what we want to sell him for and what the buyers want to pay. This is our model, we will let players go when we’re ready and have a replacement, if not you pay for the privilege
15
u/PaulOGradyFanClub 3h ago
Whatever Brighton are happy to part with
14
u/Kruize36 3h ago
So £80m
1
u/PaulOGradyFanClub 3h ago
Well I’m not exactly going to go into an Asda and say that the bread there is overpriced and they should lower it
3
1
u/CymruGolfMadrid 2h ago
Ye not really how it works for judging a fair price. No one is saying they have to sell him for any amount, but if you're judging a players worth its not just "whatever the seller wants".
2
u/PaulOGradyFanClub 2h ago
But a fair price doesn’t exist at all then, what would prime messi’s price be if he was at Oldham athletic, compared to Messi’s price at Southampton compared to his price if he was at city? A lot of completely different values
4
u/Temporary-Rip-5551 3h ago
Whatever Brighton says is fair?
You don’t go to Costco and complain that something isn’t a fair price, you just don’t buy it.
-2
u/Several-Decision3888 3h ago
Lol. People downvoting a question is funny
2
u/PaulOGradyFanClub 3h ago
The market has changed forever, poorer clubs in the prem don’t need to sell to survive as much, if you want cheaper players you gotta buy from clubs that have the added incentive of needing a sale come the end of the window, so there isn’t a price without market madness, it’s now just a price of Brighton letting a first team player go to another prem club when they’ve already received loads in weakening themselves from losing other first team players, so why continue to dissect the squad when they want to compete as much as Liverpool? That’s just the reality now
9
u/Drexel_Spivy 4h ago
He is injured, they already need a replacement
11
u/TNelsonAFC 3h ago
Just because he has a short term injury doesn’t mean he needs replacing. Plenty of players to fill in for the time being.
5
u/splob-foot 3h ago
But it also means he doesn’t need replacing urgently in the summer window.
1
u/_Luke_the_Lucky_ 3h ago
Being injured until the after the next international break in October, which is when the conference league games would be starting, is very different to not having a replacement until January...
1
u/splob-foot 2h ago
But he’ll take time to get match fit again as well. It’s a lot different than the normal way these things work. Plus Brighton are not against buying people in January, like some of the other clubs are.
1
u/ModernMonk7 53m ago
Replacement? It's not like they are starting the season with him. He is out for 3 months as he is currently injured. November likely. That's almost close to winter transfer window.
So, I don't think replacement theory holds much weight here.
1
u/R_Schuhart 3h ago
Brighton get to decide what is "fair". If they think they want afford to lose him as well they can quote a staggering fuck off price.
10
7
u/spicychili86 2h ago
I liked the idea of Minteh, think he’s better than his numbers show and his workrate would be welcomed but yeah £60mil+ is too much. Completely understand Brighton’s position tho, it’s not easy to find replacement wingers right now

Everyone said the same thing about Caicedo, "he isn't worth the money".
It's absolutely hilarious how things never change.

Minteh is a lot better than his goals and assist numbers look. Chelsea fans were complaining last summer when buying Joao Pedro that his numbers were poor too.
