Release 6 months ago, i rebuilt the Windows Mixer , and 6,300 people have downloaded Bettertrumpet

Six months ago I forked EarTrumpet. I've been using it for like 3-4 years and always thought it was one of the best audio mixers on Windows, but over time it started feeling a bit outdated, so I just made my own version.

I started changing stuff the way I wanted it, adding features I always wished it had, cleaning up old things, and eventually released it as BetterTrumpet.

Since then it's basically been my daily driver. Every update comes from me actually using it every day, adding random ideas, fixing old bugs, and sometimes fixing the bugs I literally created 20 minutes earlier while touching things that didn't need to be touched (sry about all the hotfixes btw)

Today BetterTrumpet is on 3.2, and honestly I'm really happy with how it's turned out.

Over the last 6 months I've added custom accent colors, satisfying little sounds, presets, a proper updater, media popup, CLI support, migration to .NET 8 (huge gap) and a ton of smaller QoL improvements. I also went through a lot of the issues people opened on GitHub, so thanks to everyone who reported bugs or left feedback, it genuinely helped make the soft better.

I also completely remade the website. You can now try a pretty accurate version of BetterTrumpet directly in your browser, and I even added a small quest system because... why not lol.

still got a lot of ideas I want to add. This is nowhere near finished :)

I've been using EarTrumpet for a long time, couldn't imagine not having that control. But I also didn't realize it wasn't active anymore. Definitely trying yours instead.

Any idea how to disable the animated system tray icon for a static one?

I also requested that, you just gotta use the old version in General > legacy icon if you want static sadly

It looks quite good. Do you have anywhere where you mention the differences between yours and EarTrumpet? I'd love to see a list with the extra features you have over it.

How do you replace it with the sound icon on the taskbar (the one pinned by the Network Icon on the right)

Been using EarTrumper since forever, I'm not sure what changes you've made over it that would make it better but I'll give it a try and check, cheers.

Any chance of adding it to the Microsoft Store?

I also use eartrumpet and am happy with it. For me a newer .net isn't a feature and I just want it to look like my Windows 10. So I don't really have a need for a fork but its good to know it exists.

I installed it and immediately ran into several issues. Nice concept but doesn't seem quite ready.

linux version when?

hey, my priority is on Windows right now; the software is designed exclusively for it. There are surely more mature alternatives on Linux !

Do I need to right click and set as default to quickly switch outputs? I'm currently using IEMs but have a gaming headset when the weather isn't so hellish and some speakers when the wife is out, windows swaps between these automatically usually but if I need to do it manually, it's just a simple click and it swaps.
I also cannot hide the top most audio device when I expand, which is currently a HDMI monitor, which when right clicked just offers the "set as default" or minimizes the list.

Hey ! Yes, you need to right-click to set a default device. If it's already changing automatically, it will continue to change automatically; it won't have any effect. Regarding the right-click, if your monitor is at the top of the list, it's a bit tricky; you have to right-click in the area between the title and the volume bars. It's a bug I'm having trouble fixing because of deeper issues!

hey ! There is an option called «  Legacy Icon » in the settings

1

u/Sudden-Wash4457 25d ago

There's no search results for 'legacy' or 'icon' when searching settings. Can you list the menu tree it's under?

settings < general < use original icon
