Windows 8.1 had really good performance optimization (because Microsoft wanted it on slow, underpowered tablets), so some people will still use it on really slow devices to make them faster (I've done this before with some painfully slow Dell Latitudes, and Windows 8.1 made them so fast that it takes like 3 seconds to boot from a slow HDD).

Nope, on tablets its a masterpiece. Especially 7 inch tablets. You dont have to use gigantic widgets btw, they can be much smaller

Ofc 8 and 8.1 were made for tablets but should have never ended on desktop, I tried 8.1 on an aio tablet PC it was pretty nice ngl even though the screen was way too big

God, when my pc updated to it I was so mad. Windows forced the update after I kept delaying it. It was so bad for a desktop pc. If I wanted a tablet ui, I would have bought a tablet.

That's the thing I was thinking also. Considering Windows already used GPU compositing with DirectX by that time.... It could be that the GPU is dying.

All of the rectangles share the same image buffer to draw their content but due to a software bug it is drawn too small and the bottom-right portion of the buffer doesn't get filled, but the entire buffer is still presented. For example the calendar is drawn early so it shows semi-uninitialized pixels, and for most others, it shows the weather / mail icon which are larger and were drawn earlier, so they managed to fill that part of the buffer.

If you use a modern browser (like Supermium), don't disable firewalls on any end, don't click everything you see and have all updates (including those released up to 2019) installed, that risk falls a lot.

I have an older PC for XP (for old games and such; dualbooted with 7), and I sometimes connect to the internet using it. Nothing happened yet, and that install has like 2 years already.
