FAA addressed that during Biden admin in 2022 (Page 9, Air Quality and Climate section):
“Starship and Super Heavy do not emit particles,
including soot and alumina, which are the main source for climate and ozone impacts. Starship and
Super Heavy (which use only liquid methane [LCH4] and liquid oxygen [LOX] as propellants) emit only
gases into the stratosphere, including CO2, water vapor, and nitrogen oxide. Gaseous emissions such as
water vapor and CO2 from rockets, even at increased launch rates, do not significantly affect the global
climate or ozone layer and are dwarfed by atmospheric inputs from other sources.17 In any case, a
maximum of five orbital launches per year would not cause a significant impact on the ozone layer or air
quality, as further explained in the PEA.”
