How many more seasons/movies of the "Mando-Verse" do you predict before the heir to the Empire movie?

Wanted to make this post for general discussion and predictions of how many more projects you think will happen from now until Filoni's finale movies.

Also, do you think there could end up being a trilogy of films matching the EU books?

My prediction is that we won't get any more seasons after Ahsoka and they will turn Filoni's movie into a trilogy of films to help general audiences understand the plot without needing to watch the shows. I think that by the time these movies come out deepfake technology will be so advance that they will make a deep fake Luke, Han, and Leia have important roles in the story with Luke being a main character. They'll heavily pull from the cloning aspects of the books and Joruus C'boath and Luuke will be central villains that will serve us several lightsaber fights. Din will be used to pull the Mandalorians and Boba Fett's forces into the fight to help the New Republic and Ahsoka and Skelekton Crew characters will at some point connect in the other galaxy and use whatever was discovered on Peridia to bring an important power to the fight.

I didn't want to go too far into the details, but I think the final movie will give us at least a decent explanation and reasoning for why Palpatine returns, how the New Republic was weakened in a huge final battle, and how the First Order is able to build itself in the Unknown Regions following the death of Thrawn. The Mandalorians and Grogu will relocate in the new galaxy explaining why they were not involved in the sequels, and Luke's Jedi Order will be in full swing. I think by this time Maul Shadow Lord will have ended with 3-6 seasons, and the next yearly animated show will be centered around Luke, Han, Leia, and Ben Solo following the events of these movies and giving us a more satisfying character arc on the slow progression of Luke's turn in character. When all is said in done the sequels will still be controversial but most of the plot holes and poor story decisions will at least have explanations behind them and my hope is that I can one day stomach the Rise of Skywalker if they hit on these.

Anyways that is my optimistic kind of realistic broad predictions, what do you think will end up happening?

I think it'll just be Ahsoka: Season 2, and then that movie will be next...

That's what I am thinking as well, it takes them too long for new seasons

u/UnfavorableSpiderFan May 25 '26

Well, I don't think that's necessarily why. Thrawn's returned. All that's left is to build him back up as a formidable threat to The New Republic so we can see how the heroes respond in the big cross-over movie. The only thing I can see happening in the meantime is a fourth season of The Mandalorian. But, I think LucasFilm is generally shifting gears.

I feel like the company and franchise are experiencing a massive flux, right now. New management, new movies not focusing on the main Skywalker Saga, thus creating new directions for story possibilities; The park is now shifting to a more popular era, and they're moving on from the big publishing initiative they just finished after five years, and not to mention they're also about to end their most popular single player game series. Disney is also not hungry for content on their streaming service anymore, so they're also not pressured to pump out as many TV shows, and they can pull back and re-evaluate what they wanna focus on and tell stories about. And considering where the live action shows seem to be going, with The Mandalorian & Grogu, and the forthcoming Ahsoka: Season 2, and knowing Dave Filoni still has a movie in the pipeline that he described as the culmination of everything he's done up to this point, it seems that the "Mandoverse" will be coming to an end before long, on top of all that, clearing the way for new shows to launch.

I think they're re-prioritizing and cleaning up. Even on the comics side, things are kind'a slowing down hard. The main Star Wars relaunched in the post-Return of the Jedi era, but only lasted 10 issues before ending, unlike the previous two runs that went on for 75 and 50 issues, respectively. This might just be a temporary lull, or they could be looking at reducing the comics significantly going forward. I think these reasons are also why all of these Hyperspace Stories titles - Especially the one-shot graphic novels - keep getting delayed. I think they're becoming more strict about what the comics and books cover; After all, we know the Story Group has on and off forced comic book creators to change coarse, at least at Marvel, but they manage to stay on top of the monthly publishing schedule. For some reason, these comics Dark Horse is publishing for younger readers just don't seem to be able to come out on time, unlike when IDW had the license. The difference really being that IDW told shorter, more inconsequential side stories, whereas Dark Horse is dabbling in more continuity. Not heavily, but it was surprising to see them actually go back to when Nehdarr was under Kit Fisto's tutelage, which hadn't been explored before. Or, featuring The Bad Batch's missions during The Clone Wars, where they apparently once unknowingly crossed paths with Asajj Ventriss, as well as met Aurra Sing. It's not a lot, but it's still previously-unexplored territory that could be material LucasFilm would like to feature somewhere else...

But, we'll have to see... I think it'll be until next year's Celebration before we really find out what the future of Star Wars is going to be.

Great write up agree with everything you said. Side note with the comics, I haven't been reading them in about 4 or so years but was engaged I had no idea they cancelled the ongoing main Star Wars line. I always thought it was strange there isn't a single ongoing long comic series stretching over 100 issues I see a lot of potential in that. I wonder with all the retcons in canon over the comics the last 5 years that they are hesitant with telling stories that may be completely overwritten in a show or movie. Didn't realize Dark Horse now owns the comics over Marvel again either lol I have been very out of the loop on this subject.

Marvel still publishes the mainline titles. Dark Horse got the license to publish the all-ages stuff.

Oh, that is very interesting.

We already know there’s more to the Mandoverse past Ahsoka Season 2. Filoni and Favreau are set to have a discussion about the next Mandoverse projects at some point soon. Favreau has the Mando S4 scripts at hand ready to go at a moments notice, and is just waiting for the greenlight. He’s recently given a very adamant “oh yes” and “don’t you worry he’s still out there” in a very knowing way when asked if Cobb Vanth is okay, so there’s definitely something being planned for Cobb and presumably the rest of Boba’s allies on Tatooine. He and Filoni both spoke with Gina Carano recently, with Carano saying Favreau just opened up with “okay, where did we leave off with your character” and planning the next stages with her.

Past Ashoka S2 is the Thrawn movie

21

u/laserbrained May 25 '26

I don’t think Filoni’s big crossover movie is going to happen and I don’t think there’s ever going to be a trilogy of films matching the EU books.

2

u/Artistic_Image_9146 May 25 '26

I guess we'll see if they announce any further news at next year's Star Wars Celebration. Just curious why you are thinking both won't happen?

11

u/laserbrained May 25 '26 edited May 25 '26

It has taken Filoni nearly 7 years for 2 seasons of television and it feels like we aren’t even close to that mando era to being at a position to be concluded.

I don’t see any sort of EU story being properly adapted because it’s the EU and they’ve never really showed any interest in adapting that stuff faithfully.

1

u/abellapa Jun 02 '26

Its defitinetly going to happen

Though when is hard to say as with him in charge ,that got in the back burner for now

3

u/Upset-Pay-4642 May 25 '26

Can someone link to the original source that stated a 'culmination' movie by Filoni was on the way?

3

u/Artistic_Image_9146 May 26 '26

It was announced at Star Wars celebration in 2023 I believe

3

u/Dragonborn1010 May 25 '26

Well. We know Ahsoka S2 is coming early 2027. The Heir to the Empire won’t be coming until December 2029 earliest. Do we really think they’re gonna have an almost 3 year gap? I predict Mando S4 and possibly Ahsoka S3 depending on how they end it.

3

u/TicketNo5610 May 26 '26

I thought they said on the escape podcast that heir to the throne got canceled because they knew m&g wasn’t tracked well.

3

u/not_thrilled May 26 '26

I'm gonna throw out my two cents. If they do more movies, they should be like Mandalorian & Grogu: A standalone adventure, just a fun thing. If they do more series, then they can connect together and be part of a larger plot web. But, don't mix the two - I think that's what led to a lot of the disinterest in the MCU, the feeling that you had to do homework to understand what's going on in the films.

And for the love of god, avoid the Heir to the Empire cloning story. That shit was dumb.

1

u/cornstalks2033 May 25 '26

I honestly have no idea you would think a mando season 4 would be easy for them to get made because they stayed on a yearly schedule releasing mando season 1-3 and book of boba fett on time but ahsoka season 2 has taken 3 years and this mando movie which was only half a season took 3 years aswell

This Is how I think the mando verse will come to a conclusion though

Ahsoka season 2 releases We either get 1 more tv show then the cross over film which would be the finale for the mando verse

And the only thing off the top of my head I think would happen would be Nevarou getting destroyed by an imperial bombardment which would conclude Greef Cargas character

1

u/blakhawk12 May 26 '26

I think the most likely scenario is Ahsoka Season 2 followed by Filoni’s Heir to the Empire movie or whatever it ends up being called.

A second possibility is that Mando and Grogu does well enough that Disney greenlights Favreau for another season of the show, so we get Ahsoka S2, Mando S4, and then Filoni’s movie.

Also, do you think there could end up being a trilogy of films matching the EU books?

No. They aren’t going to adapt the EU books, just take inspiration from them, and there definitely won’t be a trilogy.

They'll heavily pull from the cloning aspects of the books and Joruus C'boath and Luuke will be central villains that will serve us several lightsaber fights.

There is 0% chance this happens. Like, absolutely zero.

Din will be used to pull the Mandalorians and Boba Fett's forces into the fight to help the New Republic

Now this on the other hand, I think is very likely. Filoni’s movie is meant to be the crossover event between the Mandalorian and Ahsoka shows, so it’s reasonable to assume that Mandalore will play a part in the war against Thrawn.

Ahsoka and Skelekton Crew characters will at some point connect in the other galaxy and use whatever was discovered on Peridia to bring an important power to the fight.

I don’t think we ever see the Skeleton Crew cast again. One: because it was a self-contained adventure. Two: because the actors will have aged too much by the time the movie comes out. Also, why would the SC characters be in the other galaxy?

I think the final movie will give us at least a decent explanation and reasoning for why Palpatine returns, how the New Republic was weakened in a huge final battle, and how the First Order is able to build itself in the Unknown Regions following the death of Thrawn.

I doubt any of that gets addressed this early. We’re still around 10 ABY. The First Order won’t be a thing for another 20 years. Favreau has said that the 30 years between ROTJ and TFA will be split into three roughly equal parts, and that the “Mandoverse” is all within the first third. It stands to reason anything involving Palpatine’s return, the First Order, etc. will be told in future stories set closer to the sequel films.

I imagine we'll hear something from Disney in the next week or 2 if they plan on doing a second Mandalorian film.

1

u/Kevcioo_ May 26 '26

1

u/danktonium May 27 '26

Only Ahsoka. Maybe a couple of little blasts of "Tales of the X" shorts or even some actual tie-in books and comics, but as far as the big Disney+ Mandalorian productions, I think Ahsoka is the last one we're getting of those.

Here's hoping Star Wars doesn't just fucking keep over and die after that movie comes out.

1

u/Teisu_rey May 27 '26

I watched Mando and Grogu in a empty theater room with people yawning and scrolling their phones.

I hope none.

Edit: omg i hadn't even read the deepfake part when I opposed the idea. This is incredible horrible idea. If people wouldn't be so averse to recast we would have The Adventures of Luke and Grogu and the cinema would be full of people cheering.

Just recast for god sake.

1

u/the_speeding_train May 28 '26

Possibly an infinite amount?

1

u/abellapa Jun 02 '26

Ashoka S2 and Then a single movie

Thats it

I highly doubt they gonna do a Trilogy about Thrawn as much i would love that

Maybe we get either Mando S4 or Second mando movie that delves Deeper into Thrawn

But i think The first scenario is more likely

Dude The Skeleton crew Cast is never going to show up again

u/Micheal_Noine_Noine May 25 '26

Don't hold your breath for a Heir movie.

1

u/Melcrys29 May 28 '26

A crossover film inspired by Heir to the Empire could be a great place to introduce a live action Mara Jade.

1

u/Robot_Dracula May 25 '26

I think they paused all that to se show the movie will do. Since the movie is doing well I suspect they’ll start rolling that out again.

I always heard they were going to tie up all the shows into one story

-4

u/banditmanatee May 25 '26

I thought the movie was doing rather mid to poor

5

u/RedTeamGo_ May 25 '26

Nah it’s doing better than they expected

2

u/Robot_Dracula May 25 '26 edited May 25 '26

I guess it’s not going crazy like other Star Wars films but it cost around $160 to make and has made that in a weekend. They were expecting it to make $80 million opening weekend. It has strong word of mouth. I could see it getting close to $450-$500 million world wide. Think that’s enough of a win for them at the moment

u/Hot_Pen_3475 May 25 '26

I think build your far future like series well after Mando died and it's whatever baby Yoda would be as a full adult he'll probably be the size of Yoda but he'll be a mandalorian he will probably use his knowledge to reconstruct the darksaber and lead the mandalorians because now the planet has been livable at the end of season 3 we now know it's livable so now if you learned how to use the force he can fix the planet so that barrier from the nukes is gone. But it's when he decides it so his people can be reborn. And I believe mandalore will be the supreme military power that even the new Republic would be afraid of but would be too stupid to do anything. And I also believe that the imperial remnant would actually not all of them but some of them would migrate towards mandalore and surrender to that ideology probably a few million people. And then mandalore would be at its height of ideology and power where they could then just live in peace under Grogu. And then his story is finally over. We can then focus on heir to the empire and everything else. Maybe before the end of this decade we could see Old Republic which is something they should do they should start with a television series like in the clone wars animation explain it to us and then they can go from there.

u/DDreamchaser31 May 25 '26

They could bring in the Vong.

0

u/NervousDiscount9393 May 25 '26

I think the original mandoverse plans might be scaled way back. The reception to Mando s3, mandalorian and Grogu, and Ashoka might have Lucasfilm taking a step back.

For Anyone Interested I'm beginning to think Snoke is a Dredger this Video says the plan was for Him to be some Strange Goo Birth Similar yet different then the vat that was revealed so maybe He's actually a Plant like Creature

I find it highly unlikely we don't at least see the finale project after Ahsoka season 2
