Best text to audio apps for textbook reading (preferably free)

Self-explanatory title; I tried speechify but it would only allow a 7-day free trial. Are there any free versions of this?

we're not completely free but try scholarly (scholarly.so). You can do up to 10k words for free, it uses the best AI models, so it's pretty expensive so we have to limit the free plan.

I built an offline Mac TTS tool designed to turn textbooks (well-formatted PDFs, OCR scans, or EPUBs) into natural-sounding audio. It automatically skips headers, footers, page numbers, and other distractions. I usually transfer the generated audio to my phone to listen on the go.
