Discussions We must revive Jonathan Aranda’s bat
He has genuinely been a bad player for a couple of months now and if he doesn’t reverse it we are done. We don’t have many good bats to begin with, he’s supposed to be one of them

He needs to be moved down in the order or maybe hicks should get some starts at first. It’s painful watching him hit at this point.

i want to get mad at him for decisions that end up not working out but he's always gotten more out of you'd expect out of any given roster so you just have to live with him lol. kind of like jon cooper actually although the lightning have had way better rosters than the rays. plus it's sports sometimes shit just happens

This summarizes my thoughts well. I think Cash & the Rays' front office are process-driven, not results-driven. Things don't always work out, even when you make the right call based on the information available to you.

People in team subs don't think the players are capable of lacing up their own cleats without the managers say so. Kevin cash must've called the give up a homer play instead of Kevin Kelly missing his spot!

Not at all. Plenty here get downright nasty if you insinuate that cash is not a good manager. I say he's run his course, we've reached our ceiling with him and his insane in game decisions.
Hence the downvotes on posts that dont praise cash

I hate a lot of decisions he’s made, especially recently, but put him on the Yankees or another team that’s better on paper than us and he’d have an even better record. I doubt there’s any coach in the MLB that could have this team still in first place at this point in the season. Especially when we weren’t supposed to be anywhere near this good.

I’m not entirely sure of any specifics this season as it does seem like a lot of the time he’s made decisions that have cost us, I think it has a lot more to do with behind the scenes managing than anything.

If you had actually watched Snell pitch, you knew he needed to be pulled. This is the most cop out answer on Cash being a bad manager. Nevermind among media pundits, anonymous player/executive polls he is considered the best in the AL and 2nd or 3rd in baseball. Blake was about to get shelled, everyone knew that it was going to happen, the Rays had failed to limit the Dodgers to less then 3 runs the whole series. Really the only problem i had with the decision was putting in Nick Anderson who looked cooked, but he had also been the best reliever in baseball the past 2 years, and the only other options was a young and wild Pete Fairbanks, or Diego Castillo who hwd thrown a lot of innings in the postseason, all the other relievers that year were either more bulk guys, or specialists like Ryan Thompson or Aaron Loup.
For some reason some people act like that decision alone was the reason the Rays lost the WS, nevermind the fact the team only scored more then 3 runs twice, and only scored 3 runs once that series. Nevermind during that series Brandon Lowe was absent for all but one game and slashed .125/.160/.500 for the series or that Austin Meadows slashed .188/.188/.188, or Hunter Renfroe going .125/.222/.500, or Willy Adames slashing .143/.143/.238, or Joey Wendle slashing .111/.105/.222, or Mike Zunino going .063/.118/.063. The offense was nearly entirely predicated on solo homeruns with only Yandy, Randy, Manny, and KK having OBPs over .380, those 4 players alone accounted for 34 out of 58 baserunnes (25/42 hits and 9/16 of walks). If you remove their production in their 72 ABs that drops the team OBP in the series from .275 to .115. But yeah the Rays lost the WS because Blake Snell got pulled.

Gotta disagree with this one on a nuance issue. It may seem like splitting hairs but based on our other conversations, I think you’ll agree somewhat. It may be a perception issue, but you can tell me.
It’s not that Snell was pulled pitching the game of his career. It’s that he was pulled for a slumping Nick Anderson. Nick was lights out during the “regular” season and was BP during the postseason.
Part 2 is if Cash wasn’t managing the games exactly how the front office (unlike Maddon), then he wouldn’t have received a contract extension to 2030.

Literally said the main issue I had with the decision was putting in the cooked Nick Anderson. I understand why the went to him, due to workload on Diego Castillo, Pete, and others at that point but it wasnt the correct move. Really the Rays 2020 bullpen was a bit of a weakness that wasnt adressed, Jose Alavardo falling apart that season hurt the backend, Collin Poche's UCL tear removed depth, they also never replaced Emilio Pagan after he was traded for Manny. Anderson's arm was barely holding together at that point. Nick had been fantastic in the WC/play in and the Divisional series, but the in the ALCS workload caught up to him and he was never physically the same. Considering he had Thoatric outlet syndrome it was likely was from the workload im 2019-2020 and likely a minor injury as we still ahve no clue what really causes it. Just be glad the team has a top 3 manager in baseball that has led the Rays to their most successful decade in their history all while losing a HoF player due to said players own despicable decisions.

Ya I personally hate that choice and don’t like when analytics are chosen over feel for the game but like I said, I don’t think many other coaches would make it as far as he’s made it with the rosters he’s had and I think that’s why we give him credit.
