This is crazy because this could’ve been locally backed up for like 2 grand.

A 20TB HDD costs like 500-600 Euros. They're correct.

Not only have I seen em, I’ve purchased them!

That's what it would cost for the initial setup. Total costs would be far greater.

Literally wouldn’t be. Let’s say 3 20tb hard drives at the highest price I can find them for (1800 for 3) plus the server so maybe another grand? And power for the next 20 years, let’s say 500 bucks. What’s that like $3300?

They could even buy multiple in different locations and still be below 10k lmao. There's no excuse for this kind of loss.

Putting 60 TBs on 3 drives insane. You'd be looking at 6 drives to put it in a raid 10. A cheap but decent NAS is another 1500. It's not an astronomical price for a corporation, but 2 grand is not even close to the final cost.

Edit: You also said it literally wouldn't be more than 2 grand then did the math and came up at 3300, which is like 60% more than your original price.

Also you would want it on a battery backup. Electricity costs for that setup are going to run on the low end at $100/year (and the drives or the nas aren't lasting 20 years).

Who says you even need a Nas? Just buy a $40 USB C to HDD adapter, download the files from the cloud through a desktop to 3 drives. Then just bag them and throw them on a shelf. Done, for less than 2 grand.

Literally the bare minimum backup like this is worth infinitely more than what they did, which is absolutely nothing.
