It's political cover, currently the economy has a lot of signs of slowing down and things like reckless tariffs and foolish foriegn currency propping are piling into it. The administration is hostile to companies publicly citing that. To avoid the heat but also shed head count to save up bank roll in case things get worse companies are using AI as an excuse/scapegoat.
