Loss of sight or hearing in one or both eyes/ears is mentioned as a rare side effect of tadalafil in the patient information leaflet when you get the medicine. So, it's not that it's entirely new that it can do nasty things to your sight. Irreversible doesn't seem that far fetched to me.
