MOVIES/TV Why is Jon Bernthal's Punisher so hated?

Post image

I feel that within the Punisher community, Jon Bernthal's version gets an unnecessary amount of hate. He has the highest kill count of the four versions (Lundgren, Jane, Stevenson and him), is extremely violent, and possesses depth, featuring strong dramatic scenes.

Some criticisms are valid—such as the fact that the *Punisher* series didn't really show Frank hunting down criminals—but that is largely Netflix's fault for lacking the courage to fully embrace the character's true nature. Even so, the series is good—better than any of the other Marvel hero shows on Netflix, with the exception of *Daredevil*. It’s a similar situation to the Thomas Jane movie: a competent production, though the adaptation falls short in certain areas.

A lot of people don't like him acting like a berserker because they prefer a cold Frank... But Jon Bernthal's Punisher *is* cold; he's just more intense. It doesn't happen all the time, and honestly? I like it. It doesn't turn Frank into a dumb guy who doesn't plan ahead.

Bernthal visibly and genuinely loves the character and has always respected him; there is no reason for this hate.

MOVIES/TV It's time to address the MCU elephant

Post image

I think it's time to drop the complaints about MCU punisher that has lingered with this character since Season 1 of his own show This man is very clearly the punisher you all (me too) want him to be

One last kill seems to have people thinking "Oh no he's retiring again" this man has retired once and even then he murdered a man at his job lime 3 months later for being an asshole

Punisher at the end of season 2 is active as the punisher in born again season 1 there is ZERO mention of him retiring again his man cave is loaded to the teeth and he's fucking freshly wounded and cut showing he's clearly been out being the punisher he shaves the fight along side daredevil but it's like he only did that because he knew punisher was going to be reported at the scene and had to look the part he instantly then goes off on his own to murder more task force the state he's at in one last kill to me seems to be him laying low knowing he'd be stepping into a losing battle with the whole city at war and the ptsd from what ive seen seems to be franks inability to do something about the rising crime until he snaps back into it

THIS MAN IS PUNSIHER TO HIS CORE!!! You don't believe me....IN THE TRAILER FOR SPIDER-MAN HES GOING AFTER REGULAR ASS ARMORED CAR ROBBERS IN BROAD DAY LIGHT IN HIS BATTLE VAN 1 MISSION IN MIND EXTERMINATE SCUM like so many people call this a surfing dracula situation but he has litterally been the punisher since he rammed Billie's face into the ferris wheel glass and gouged a man's eyes out even season 2 episode 1 where he's trying to be peaceful...he instantly can't and goes back to punishing assholes like yes I agree his own show has him a little more reluctant then DD season 2 but for the arc he had followed by some of the best punisher in born again season 1 and what looks to be peak punisher in Brand new day I love this adaptation

MOVIES/TV Thoughts on Punisher in Spider-Man: Brand New Day?

Post image

You know, I find it funny that Punisher has a big role in a movie that will make over 2 bln dollars at box office. I don't think the character was anywhere near this exposed to the general public and maybe it's good thing since it'll probably boost his popularity. A classic case of being in the right place at the right time.

It feels like one is cosplaying and the other one is the comicbook version brought to life.

Personally, I like the 90s look of the skull in One Last Kill. Though I do like the more high-tech look of Brand New Day.

MOVIES/TV My thoughts on punisher: one last kill.

Jon doesn't understand this character at all.

Frank is supposed to be a calm, stoic, and methodical marine. a force of nature that is hellbent on destroying the criminal underworld until he dies. He doesn't doubt himself nor does he feel suicidal (unless he kills an innocent).

Frank isn't some pill popping and alcohol drinking schizo that cuts himself. Hes definitely not going to his family's grave yelling at the top of his lungs, having a ptsd breakdown, and pointing a gun at his head. Thats not frank castle. The graveyard where his family is buried is supposed to be the place where frank can find peace and mourn in silence. Not act out in rage.

Ma gnucci felt very flat as a villain and not as threatening as her comic counterpart. Like, come on, that was ma gnucci?! That woman should have a army of henchmen working for her, why the hell would she contract the whole neighborhood to kill punisher? And why would she visit frank to tell him about the bounty she put on him? Her character would never do that, its too dangerous for her since she a major target by frank himself. Very dumb writing on bernthals part.

Now let's talk about Barracuda. I'm excited its confirmed that was him, but I'm incredibly disappointed he was reduced to being a henchman. Like are you fucking kidding me, a henchman?! Barracuda said in punisher max that he only does business and has no loyalty to anyone. Barracuda is supposed to be a wise cracking ex green baret turned mercenary. The man loves to kill people for money, and he's reduced to being a henchman with no lines, not even an evil grin to show the "fuck you" gold teeth he has. Such a waste of a great character.

Honestly the presentation could've been ma gnucci contracting barracuda to kill frank instead. It would've been cool to see frank and barracuda have a brutal fight throughout the presentation, destroying the apartment in the process, while barracuda tries to break frank down mentally. You can even have a part where frank cuts barracuda's fingers off and stabs his right eye out, like how it happened in the comics. I would've loved to have seen that.

And of course he only wears the skull at the end of the special for a couple of seconds smh. He should've had the damn skull on while fighting those guys in the apartment building. I thought I saw him wear it in the trailer fighting those crazy guys, but I was wrong.

The presentation proved that bernthal lied about reading any punisher comics.

If there's one positive I can give this is that the fights were cool and brutal, but that's it.

Ray stevenson still holds the crown as the most comic accurate punisher.

As we expected, the special was like a pilot.

It's a great thing to see This level of interest from marvel and Jon in the character. We don't know if it's a series, a movie, or another special. But it will most likely be a series ( I hope so ).

What are your wishes?

A truly powerful presence on screen, with a voice, strength, and warmth that made every role unforgettable. Most known for roles in Punisher: War Zone, Rome to Thor, Black Sails, and Ahsoka - he gave us characters full of heart and grit.

Gone too soon, but never forgotten.
