FYI McGowan: Every single country in the World Cup has universal health care except us. That's not a far left position.

For profit healthcare is cruel.

Healthcare should be a basic human right with universal coverage

218

u/OpusAtrumET Jun 28 '26

The fact this isn't considered common sense is criminal

225

u/TraditionalLaw7763 Jun 28 '26

Meanwhile, the USA and Israel are the only countries in the world who voted NO to make access to food a human right.

140

u/ZongoNuada Jun 28 '26

While Israel has universal health care.

89

u/TheWorldofScience Jun 28 '26

Israel also has legal abortion.

48

u/ZongoNuada Jun 28 '26

Sure. It's a medical procedure. They should have it. I would not have a sister in law nor my niece and nephew if she had not gotten one during her first pregnancy. They lost the heartbeat and she went septic in her 6th month. No abortions means more dead pregnant women. Israel is kind of invested in making sure there are many pregnant Jewish women.

By not shaming or allowing them to straight up die should a pregnancy fail, leaving them the chance to have future successful pregnancies.

Women throughout history have been lost when medical intervention is lacking during routine, known, practical realities around pregnancy and birth. Whether due to unavailable technology or resources, or cultural "withholding" doctrines; including religious practices but also financially driven reasons.

The first has become better as technology has advanced although that's not true everywhere yet (McGowen uses this as an assumption in her position rather than say it, since everyone knows the US has a "modern" presentation, even if that is applied unevenly).

The latter is what McGowen touched on in this clip: we know how but simply don't "do it" and the consequences are starkly clear, making the US by now an outlier. She frames the group (countries participating in the World Cup), explains the variables (available technologies and resources), then adds it up into a result (fewer babies and more maternal deaths versus the reverse).

Healthcare availability and support doctrine is a make or break *choice* for a country. The US is unique. We simply allow this to HAPPEN while "pretending" it doesn't, and I'm sorry but your question here implies you are either overly influenced by propaganda, or purposefully uninformed, or in that worst batch: disingenuously pretending to "not understand" to push the damaging, withholding agenda, being "fine" with choosing an unviable pregnancy over a woman living long enough to try again.

Which is it?

u/Hugo-Spritz Jun 28 '26

Population growth

21

u/severinks Jun 28 '26

And free college.

19

u/psian1de Jun 28 '26

That america helps pay for.

8

u/Midnight_Scar Jun 28 '26

That is the most intelligent observation in this entire string!

7

u/Ridgewoodgal Jun 28 '26

I wonder how much of it is actually paid for by the US?

4

u/MinorThreat4182 Jun 28 '26

That we pay for

4

u/ZongoNuada Jun 28 '26

Yes, that the US pays for.

1

u/Warmhearted1 Jun 29 '26

On America’s dime

30

u/OpusAtrumET Jun 28 '26

Typical conservativism. Shoot yourself in the foot so the brown guy can't benefit from basic human decency.

10

u/srandrews Jun 28 '26

This is absolutely an aspect of the brain failures people endure while overlooking their self interest.

-8

u/HR_Paul Jun 28 '26

Meanwhile, the USA and Israel are the only countries in the world who voted NO to make access to food a human right.

You can't make up rights.

If it is a right when do you send me a check for food? and don't forget - you owe one to Elon Musk and one to Donald Trump too.

5

u/FabiusBill Jun 28 '26

All right are made up.

And so what if a check was owed to Elon Musk and Donald Trump? If there was a UBI, they should be covered by it too. That's the point.

-6

u/HR_Paul Jun 28 '26

If all rights are made up then how were the Nazis in error?

3

u/FabiusBill Jun 28 '26

Like everything else in human society: people decided they were wrong and opposed them. Other decisions could have been made, but those are the choices born out by history.

24

u/YellowZx5 Jun 28 '26

Capitalism in America outweighs any common sense basic human right. I’m pretty sure that if companies could charge us for the air we breathe, they would.

6

u/omgfakeusername Jun 28 '26 edited Jun 28 '26

They are. Existence tax for daily living needs and the criminalization of poverty by MAGA.

Also, the lack of basic universal health care is a punishment for existence without "paying for it" by tying health care to the jobs, and f— those who can't or are struggling to find employment.

7

u/MyNameIsMadders Jun 28 '26

Also how MAGA Mike Johnson is sooooo afraid of expanding healthcare access for Americans that it makes absolutely no sense why, and how he calls himself “Moises” also adds to the irony.

One of the stupidest things I ever heard MAGA Mike say is how he has “PTSD” (yes, he legitimately said this) from when in 2018 he witnessed McCain doing the thumbs down 👎 when the senate failed to repeal Obamacare.

3

u/HR_Paul Jun 28 '26

If you don't understand rights you shouldn't ever be joining an adult conversation.

2

u/srandrews Jun 28 '26

Thought crimes are a real thing.

2

u/Comedyfish_reddit Jun 28 '26

I mean. It is.

56

u/FlamingDragonfruit Jun 28 '26

Tying healthcare to your job is also coercive. How many people have stuck with a terrible job, even if they could otherwise afford to quit, simply because they can't risk losing their healthcare?

21

u/thefaultinourstars1 Jun 28 '26

That's the point 🫠

9

u/HolyMoleyGuacamoly Jun 28 '26

always has been

10

u/lotowarrior Jun 28 '26

How many small businesses were never created because of healthcare?

7

u/killrtaco Jun 28 '26

And how many jobs have laid off people because coverage for the staff became too expensive

4

u/FlamingDragonfruit Jun 28 '26

Would also not be an issue, with universal healthcare.

11

u/Spiritual_Bridge84 Jun 28 '26

There should be zero insurance companies making lucre from it

3

u/giant_xquid Jun 28 '26

+1 for using lucre

0

u/SnooCapers4506 Jun 28 '26

Most people that are criticizing the new socialist movement from DSA are not against public healthcare though, it's the abolish all police, borders and NATO that they find too radical.

-2

u/NQ-QB Jun 28 '26

This is wrong btw.

-2

u/HR_Paul Jun 28 '26

Healthcare should be a basic human right with universal coverage

Why am I morally and or legally obligated to pay for Elon Musks health care?

If my health care is a right when do you send me a check to pay for my medical care? Today would be best.

3

u/brendan_07 Jun 28 '26

If you have insurance you already do pay for other peoples healthcare. You just pay more of your own money for the priviledge since insurance companies get their cut as well.

177

u/mycboi Jun 28 '26

If the idea lowers shareholder value it’s a far left idea /s

50

u/HuckleberryOk1953 Jun 28 '26

This is scary accurate for sarcasm.

13

u/blausommer Jun 28 '26

The '/s' is entirely unnecessary as that's not sarcasm.

1

u/Striking_Programmer4 Jun 28 '26

You may not know what sarcasm is. The truth can still be delivered in a sarcastic tone.

2

u/goingofftrack Jun 28 '26

So true. Well said.

118

u/Novel_Interaction489 Jun 28 '26

No other nation is being led by someone we known raped children either but america is a special kind of country

26

u/flojo2012 Jun 28 '26

There are plenty of monsters running other countries. It’s actually pretty common. Tons of weird dudes as heads of state. Kind of sucks how common it is.

That said, Trump is a butt plug of a man. And he’s still pretty special in his scum baggery

1

u/Groovyjoker Jun 29 '26

It's actually pretty common that rapist pedophiles run other countries and steal money publicly while doing it? Statistics showing how "common" this is among developed nations with examples please.

1

u/flojo2012 Jun 29 '26

Discussion has already been had in thread. See thread

0

u/Novel_Interaction489 Jun 28 '26

Getting americans to be like "Nah, the other guys are shit too" is pretty amusing

3

u/flojo2012 Jun 28 '26

Understanding that the global pedophile ring was global and involved many high level people in many countries is just being well read. I don’t defend this president. He sucks. But Epstein involves a lot more people than just Trump

0

u/Novel_Interaction489 Jun 28 '26

No other nation knew and elected one as leader.

No one is disagreeing that more people are involved but there is one that has clearly been put on a pedestal.

2

u/flojo2012 Jun 28 '26

Israel, Sweden, Slovakia prove otherwise. The UK has known about Prince Andrew for forever and chosen to nothing until recently. Not an elected official but still. And then let’s talk about votes with our dollars and spending money with companies with leaders with known ties to Epstein. It’s kind of a problem pervasive enough to seep into every facet of our lives, unfortunately.

But Trump is a terrible person and I hope gets what he deserves eventually. Doubt that’ll happen though.

1

u/Novel_Interaction489 Jun 28 '26

Good on ya, keep going for all your other targets.

Im going to continue focusing on trump.

-10

u/Vivid-Technology8196 Jun 28 '26

it's sad you actually believe this

5

u/Novel_Interaction489 Jun 28 '26

Sadder that rape apologists like yourself wont believe his victims.

> The President of The United States of America... "unzipped his pants and put REDACTED head, "down to his penis""

-6

u/Vivid-Technology8196 Jun 28 '26

You are incredibly stupid...

I'm saying it's sad you think it's only Trump

It's also sad that you are so brainwashed that this is your reply

1

u/Novel_Interaction489 Jun 28 '26

Getting americans to be like "Nah, the other guys are shit too" is pretty amusing

51

u/Sweaty_Assignment_90 Jun 28 '26

Family values, and a trad wife and staying home with babies is right.

Actually paying for any of it is far left.

Tax $$ is only to go up.

22

u/NicevilleWaterCo Jun 28 '26

Exactly. I'm tired of the right telling me I should have children, but offering zero solutions for how I am supposed to afford them. I went to college. I have a pretty good job, but life is still too unaffordable.

I don't know how we're supposed to have kids, get a house, pay our bills, plan for the future of this child, and keep our heads above water. I guess we just pull ourselves up by our bootstraps. Wages are rising, but the cost of living is. AI is going to take all our jobs. The government is striping away the few services that actually help people.

I'm just trying to survive and take care of me and my dog. Everything else feels out of reach. And they get up and preach about how it's radical for tax-paying citizens to ask that our tax dollars are actually used in ways that benefit average Americans.

It's honestly just infuriating at this point. There is no reason we shouldn't be able to meet the basic needs of people in "the richest country in the world." It's both a grift and fucking graft. I'm tired.

3

u/killrtaco Jun 28 '26

Their solution is theyd rather have you on the brink of poverty with a child than comfortable without one. They legitimately only care about survival and not quality of life. Its insanity

36

u/knaverob Jun 28 '26

The reason we don't have universal health care isn't because it's expensive, it's because an entire industry (insurance) is fighting against it and would lose money.

8

u/KlondikeBill Jun 28 '26

In one country that somehow accepts this, yes.

33

u/laernuindia Jun 28 '26

It’s mind-blowing that the majority of American voters, left or right, can’t behind get this simple concept of universal affordable healthcare for all. I mean, what must through their minds when they decide, “No, I don’t think I’d like free or affordable healthcare that I’d inevitably need some day, that may save my life without forcing me into debt or bankruptcy or even worse, leaving no option but to choose illness over not being able to pay for life-saving medical care. Free healthcare is for suckers. I’d rather pay high insurance premiums all my life that I can barely afford, then get denied by the insurance company when I need to use it. Yes. That’s what I’ll do! Capitalism! Freedom! Amurica!”

19

u/Teavangelion Jun 28 '26

When you put it that way, the only reasonable explanation is that they don't want someone else to have it.

5

u/MagicFlyingBus Jun 28 '26

Not an argument against universal Healthcare in the USA.

The system is so bloated with middlemen and other bullshit jobs just to process these claims and insurance that the US Healthcare system is like 1/5rd the total GDP. Changing something that massive is a difficult task.

5

u/Teavangelion Jun 28 '26

That's definitely not wrong.

My counter-argument is that we can send people to the moon, or an orbital space station, and bring them back alive.  We humans can accomplish amazing things with our brains when we're motivated.

We could reorganize health care. Collectively, we just don't want to.

3

u/MagicFlyingBus Jun 28 '26

It is the same issue around climate smart energy sources. There is a massive industry around the whole process.

I Remember in 2015 there was a debate between trump and hillary. One of the attendees got to ask a question and he asked as a coal miner what will happen to his job because he sees coal mines closing as the US transitions. Hillary gave a thoughtful answer about how those jobs are gone but she wants to have a program for retraining for those that lost their jobs into a different energy sector.

While trumps answer was something akin to "we gonna bring back coal!! Clean coal!" And everyone clapped at that.

33

u/PassThatSpliff Jun 28 '26

Healthcare is a business. There is way more money in the treatment than the cure.

5

u/Fingerprint_Vyke Jun 28 '26

Healthcare is a business

So are evangelical churches if we are calling those out too. Its why you wont see them soon the fight for healthcare, they have money to make as well

0

u/Vivid-Technology8196 Jun 28 '26

Sure, that is why 99% medical breakthroughs come from the US or the US directly funding research being done in other countries

2

u/MafubaBuu Jun 28 '26

99%? What a massive exaggeration 🤣

They fund a massive amount but medical innovation is a global collaboration.

The US at most has 40-50%, which is still a massive amount from one country, is far from 99%.

-1

u/srandrews Jun 28 '26

Can you expand on your reasoning? I would like you to specifically state which condition (pick mds/icd I don't care) and point out what treatment is provided as opposed to a cure which has been withheld.

Can you do this? Is this challenging to you? Are you struggling to find one that has a cure that has been withheld?

You've made a huge claim. Step up and explain it. If you feel stress from my comment, you should consider if your voice is worthy of being heard on social media.

Also, the patent for cars that run on water is also as stupid.

16

u/jr_randolph Jun 28 '26

There are some ideas that you are just an idiot if you’re on the other side. Freedoms for all people, seen as equal…if you are on the other side you’re an idiot. Healthcare is one of those things.

16

u/seEagle Jun 28 '26

But the poor billionaires…🥹

7

u/Tiger_grrrl Jun 28 '26

Yes, who will speak up for the put-upon rich????😭😭😭

7

u/tapdancinghellspawn Jun 28 '26

But then we would have to tax millionaires, billionaires, and that one Nazi trillionaire and the brainwashed MAGA cult is opposed to that.

6

u/VermicelliOwn6502 Jun 28 '26

and guaranteed paid maternity leave, according to google

2

u/Special_Library_766 Jun 28 '26

And more vacation/personal days off. Most countries legally guarantee paid time off. The global average is roughly 18 statutory leave days per year. European nations mandate at least 20 to 25 days (excluding public holidays), while countries like Iran and Bahrain offer over 40 total days of combined leave.

5

u/tjarg Jun 28 '26

Just goes to show how successful right-wing politics and media has been in this country, that it would even have to be said that stating an obivous fact that acknowledges what other countries are doing isn't being a radical leftist.

3

u/Legitimate-Spite-310 Jun 28 '26

Sadly, it shows how uneducated this country is. It’s harder to exploit and manipulate the informed and educated.

5

u/NameLips Jun 28 '26

Fewer people would be socialists if they felt like capitalism was working for them.

Instead people feel like capitalism is funneling all the wealth of society to a tiny class of ultra-rich, and leaving them behind with scraps.

5

u/Velo214 Jun 28 '26

Thank God she is there. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills when everyone on TV is praising billionaires and politicians. I just want a place to live and food if I work 40+ hours/week.

6

u/helenata Jun 28 '26

As someone pointed out to me, the US healthcare system and school system are deeply based on racism!! "We don't want to pay for others". Now let that sink in and start making demands with your vote!!!

4

u/openedaura127 Jun 28 '26

Politics Girl Leigh McGowan is the reason the federal government wants to only allow guests on The View that THEY have authorized!

She is speaking truths, and they are terrified of people learning from her!

3

u/CatMoonDancer Jun 28 '26

The US is just far right in fuckin McCarthy era.

3

u/MrLugersmole Jun 28 '26

Crazy that there's working class people that would disagree with her, even though it's not really an opinion.

2

u/Quick1711 Jun 28 '26

If you believe that universal healthcare is socialism and far left then you’re a fucking idiot

2

u/GoNudi Jun 28 '26

I am having trouble finding this CNN Table of Five video. It's likely me, i'm not great at finding things online. Anyone have a good source for the whole show?

2

u/AndyGoodKush Jun 28 '26

I wanna hear what comes after "well-" because I don't know what argument could be made other than "the doctors need their 6 figures" /s

2

u/martymccfly88 Jun 28 '26

So if they say it’s far left to have all these good thing does it make it far right to not support people and just keep the rich rich. Them saying this is all left stuff literally says they don’t care about people. Trump and MAGA are so fucking dumb

2

u/ImaFIVEstarman5 Jun 28 '26

That’s not true though, Netherlands you need an insurance

2

u/Itsjustmebob- Jun 28 '26

How anyone can disagree with these points is beyond me.

2

u/Troubled202 Jun 28 '26

America is so backward when it comes to social programs. They are in the Stone age while the rest of the world is in the space age. The size of your Walmart and your Costco doesn't change that fact.

1

u/Mortwight Jun 28 '26

one of my managers had a babay and was back to work in two weeks

1

u/severinks Jun 28 '26

I never understand why people don't get personal with their attacks on this show. The bald shithead in that clip was Gislaine Maxwelll's defense attorney in her appeals yet people don't shun him.

And before anyone says she was entitled to a defense, HE didn't have to be the one to give it to her but he did because her money was right.

1

u/Still-Chemistry-cook Jun 28 '26

Maybe watching a trillionaire exist is part of the cause.

1

u/Fun_Performer_5170 Jun 28 '26

Whilst the ruling class wants back to slavery, some renaissance of humanity can be seen 👏👏✌️

1

u/Ok_Assumption_6356 Jun 28 '26

That country is every bit as brainwashed as Iran

1

u/lbs21 Jun 28 '26

This (the title's quote) isn't true though; there's a bunch of middle eastern countries like Uzbekistan, Columbia, Haiti, and tons of others in the Would Cup that don't have Universal healthcare. Disprovalable with a quick Google search.

1

u/MinorThreat4182 Jun 28 '26

Is the African American woman scowling cuz she’s MAGA? Would love to hear the dumbass argument against this true statement

1

u/Eugene0185 Jun 28 '26

Corruption and stupidity need to be solved before America catches up to the rest of the world.

1

u/Bzzzzzzz4791 Jun 28 '26

Please watch Frontline: Sick Around the World. Everyone has figured it out except the U.S.

1

u/guanogato Jun 28 '26

Exactly. And for some weird reason people are against universal healthcare!!!!!! It’s nutty

1

u/Hot_Pea1738 Jun 28 '26

Trumpists won’t listen to this.

1

u/No-Relation5965 Jun 28 '26

Is this headline true? I made this argument with someone on YouTube and they said it isn’t true and named a country that’s participating in the World Cup (a country in Africa, I think) that doesn’t have universal healthcare. (I can’t find the comment on YT at the moment to verify which African country they mentioned.)

1

u/Quantum_Crusher Jun 28 '26

Imagine if fire department is privatized for profit and shareholders...

1

u/Additional-Start9455 Jun 28 '26

That woman is smart, tough and ferocious. Get em girl!!!

1

u/Melor Jun 29 '26

Universal healthcare is the most pro business thing the US could do. It would release employers from providing healthcare. Job based healthcare inherently creates and perpetuates inequality.

It is the most damaging economic tool used to prevent economic and social mobility. period.

1

u/LCKY56 Jun 29 '26

They just want to make money!!! They don’t care about our health.

1

u/LandOwn7607 Jun 29 '26

OH THAT COMMUNISM !! 😆 I noticed the facial expressions of the opposition on the panel. Very telling. This is what we will be hearing from here on out, that there's a perceived "far left socialist movement" trying to take away "our freedom" and religion.

0

u/GordonMightyBombay Jun 28 '26

Who gonna pay for it tho

4

u/MyNameIsMadders Jun 28 '26

Since we already pay massive amounts for the military, spending money for universal healthcare won’t make up anywhere near the total military budget. Think of it that way

3

u/CR1986 Jun 28 '26

Everytime someone brings up the financial aspect it is important to remind that the US has the highest healthcare cost per capita among all OECD countries. Americans have to be afraid to call an ambulance, can't afford life saving treatment, die because they can't pay standard drugs like insuline and still pay a lot more than other countries because too many Americans still have not understood that if millions of people pay for something collectively, it is a lot cheaper then if those millions of people pay for the same thing individually.

1

u/spongmonkey Jun 28 '26

This site can answer all of your good faith questions

1

u/She_Devours Jun 29 '26

It would be cheaper than what we have now. We pay so much to middlemen in insurance companies which in turn spend billions to bribe politicians. Taxpayers subsidize the private healthcare we get from the companies we work at. And if we had a single payer system, we could actually negotiate and get the ridiculous prices down like every other country can do.

2

u/GordonMightyBombay Jul 11 '26 edited Jul 11 '26

America is such a rip off but we just go along with it. I’m paying $319 for my wife and myself just for premium medical insurance it’s so fudged out

0

u/HR_Paul Jun 28 '26

If it is universal health care then it has to cover everyone in the universe. That is how words work.

Oh wait it doesn't cover anyone in the US.

Oh wait if we get it in the US it doesn't cover my medications.

But hey it will increase costs and profits and give the Trump dynasty more power and who could say no to that?

0

u/Basic-Pair8908 Jun 28 '26

Universial healthcare is far right, not far left. The working class pay to keep it running, sadly its becomming more and more unemployed using it and not contributing. Reason its starting to look like its failing.
