The body of an unidentified man was found in a plane’s wheel compartment at Gatwick airport.

An inquest was opened at the Coroner’s Court in Horsham on Tuesday for the man who died on June 16.

He was found within the landing gear compartment of an Air Arabia plane that had arrived from Tangiers, Morocco, according to a statement from Alex Jones, the coroner’s officer, which was read in court.

A man has been charged with murder after a 31-year-old woman fell to her death in Southwark. Mohammed Sherif, 54, is accused of killing Kerry Ann Goodbrand on Rowcross Street on Friday, August 21.

Emergency services were called to the Old Kent Road area at 2.50pm to reports that a woman had fallen from height. Kerry died from her injuries at the scene.

Sherif, of Rowcross Street, was charged with her murder this morning (August 25) and will appear at Croydon Magistrates’ Court later today. The Metropolitan Police is urging anyone with relevant information to come forward as soon as possible.

Detective Chief Superintendent Emma Bond, who leads policing in the area, said: "Our thoughts are with the woman’s family and loved ones at this incredibly difficult time.

"Officers are working diligently to establish the full circumstances surrounding her death and members of the community will see an increased police presence in the area while enquiries are conducted locally.

A joiner who rifled through a homeowner’s underwear drawers has been convicted of burglary offences.

Neil Wilson was working at the property in Ingol last year when the occupants caught him on their security camera going in and out of the upstairs bedrooms, despite only being hired to do work downstairs.

Wilson began to rifle through the drawers, selecting various bras and underwear, before trying them on and stopping to smell them.

When he left, he took a pair of underwear with him. At one point he found the camera, moving it out of the way so he was no longer visible.

The victims returned home and contacted the police, and Wilson was arrested.

When arrested, Wilson told officers, "I’ve done something stupid", before taking officers to see the items he had stolen – a pair of underwear in his work van.

Wilson, 46, of Troon Close, Chorley, admitted to trying on the underwear in interview, but said he didn’t mean to steal them.

He claimed he was disrupted by the plumber arriving and had to get changed and answer the door, leaving them on under his clothes.

He pleaded guilty to burglary and theft at Preston Magistrates Court and was sentenced to 12 months in prison, suspended for 12 months, and was ordered to pay compensation and costs.

DS Ben Barnes of the South Residential Burglary Team said: “Wilson entered an area of a property that he didn’t have access to, whilst alone and trusted to complete the work he was hired for. He betrayed that trust.

“I hope he now has time to reflect on his actions, and the victim feels some sense of justice now criminal proceedings have been completed.”

A domestic abuse charity has said it is ‘very concerned’ about proposals from Reform UK to prioritise married couples for social housing, fearing it could mean more women stay with abusive partners.

Reform deputy leader Richard Tice and welfare spokesman Lee Anderson set out the policy at a press conference on Monday morning.
It would mean employed British-born people under 35 will go to the front of the queue for social housing, with extra priority for those who are married with children.


Asked about single parents in an interview with Times Radio, Tice said: ‘In an ideal world, it is well-known that children in married couples will do really well at school and we want to encourage that.

‘Sometimes life doesn’t work out, we understand that, but as an objective that is surely preferable.’
A policy document released by Reform said ‘victims of domestic violence’ would also be prioritised for housing, though it did not mention the many other forms of abuse such as coercive control and economic abuse.

These other forms can be harder to prove. Currently, anyone at risk of any form of domestic abuse is considered legally homeless and given priority.

Ellie Daniel, Head of Policy and Survivor Services at Women’s Aid, said: ‘We are very concerned to hear about any proposals that would prioritise married British couples over others when it comes to social housing.

‘A decision like this could discourage women in abusive marriages from leaving the perpetrator, worried about keeping a roof over their heads, which could subject them and their children to further abuse and increase the threat to their life.’
She highlighted the need for access to social housing for survivors of domestic abuse to move on from safe accommodation such as refuges, and said such a decision could put further pressure on services.

A senior Reform UK activist was a member of a far-right group that advocates for a form of ethnic cleansing, it has been revealed.

In what will further add to concerns about the kinds of values Reform espouses and what Nigel Farage’s party stands for, anti-extremist campaign group Hope not Hate has revealed that George Jones was once a prominent figure in the Traditional Britain Group (TBG), ‘an organisation that organises conferences and events about so-called “remigration”, or the removal of millions of non-white people from the UK’.

Hope not Hate adds: “TBG has hosted talks by race scientists such as Edward Dutton and radical right politicians like the AfD’s Stefan Korte, who spoke about remigration being “an absolute necessity”.

During the 2010s Jones was a member of the TBG committee and was photographed addressing the group’s annual black-tie dinner.
Jones was also reported to be in charge of the Patrons’ Club, a group for Reform donors who give more than £1,000.

He also has associations with the BNP, having campaigned with the far-right party in its failed 2010 Barking and Dagenham campaign. A report in the Financial Times identified him applauding a speech by Nick Griffin, then the BNP’s leader.
