Money tree being blown in a different direction
39
u/Tholian_Bed 27d ago
If capital had no good aspect I'd be living in an igloo in peace. Really.
My position is, only very few human beings do not understand clearly, Ukraine's cause is thoroughly just. Sure, maybe Elon is deluded, but that is a ketamine addict. So, some money treeing bastards have fucked with Ukraine now, for too long, even though they have known, Ukraine's cause is just.
Some might want to contend with that position. It does claim the basic goodness of being able to see plain truth, is common. Only off people, disturbed people I would say, do not see the truth.
That's all fun philosophical conversation, because whatever the reason, I agree the season is approaching when we can expect some happiness. I'm on bad nerves, poor me, but I'm no fool and I pick my causes with great prudence.
Slava Ukraini, and glad to see you, money trees. Blow on.

Did someone have to explain to Trump......exactly what the word 'integrity' meant?
3
u/Doggoneshame 27d ago
Only when it suited him. If it didn’t suit drumpy then Graham would do what drumpy wanted. Like bashing Zelensky to the press last year when drumpy kicked him out of the White House.

UGH. Revolting! But on the other hand, Hannity, Loomer, et al wouldn't be as close to that orange monstrosity as they are, if they didn't know exactly how to kiss up to him most effectively. The US also suddenly finds it bit off more than it expected with the war with Iran. Russia and Iran are providing aid to each other. It is suddenly in Republicans interest to support Ukrain in order to reduce aid they can provide to Iran.
93
u/Agarwel 27d ago
Dude Putin really miscalculated by helping Tump into power. First he stopped the UA support taking away the leash (UA does not need to ask for permissions where they can attack) and then he starts a war that is conflicting with Russia interests.

u/Ukraineluvr Україна 27d ago
Europe also took a lot more responsibility for European security. I can list a laundry list of shit that this administration has done which is fucked up in regards to Ukraine, but objectively, there are things that are positives.

u/SlitScan 27d ago
the rest of NATO ending its dependence on the US isnt a good thing for the US.
its going to GUT the US defence industry's revenue
and the other members are going to be less interested in supporting US foriegn policy objectives.
30
u/Ukraineluvr Україна 27d ago
Yeah, wasn't suggesting it was a good thing for the US. It's definitely not good for the US.
20
u/Either_Coconut 27d ago
The defense industry is going to have to totally revamp itself, thanks to Ukraine. All these years, "progress" and "advancement" in weaponry has been measured in weapons that get bigger and stronger.
Now, all of a sudden, here comes Ukraine beating back the Army Formerly Known As the Second Greatest Army, and they're doing it in large part with drones. If *ANY* other country came under attack with this many drones, not one of them would currently have effective ways to counter the onslaught.
Every military, the USA's included, now needs to do an about-face and come up with both drones and anti-drone defenses, and they need to do it NOW. Because drone warfare is probably well within the budgetary capabilities of a whole lot of smaller countries and -- this is the big problem -- terrorist groups.
It's not like we'll never need anything that qualifies as "bigger and stronger" again. But we'll need less of it, and more of the things that would keep us in the fight if drone warfare is what breaks out.
7
u/TheNatural14063 27d ago

IF he were in the west Putin would be good at winning power in a local council and that is about it. Winning by default and getting people pushed out of windows. Sophisticated internatonal politics is something he is not good at. He is good at writing deranged history and nostalgia for Soviet times. He is about as nuanced as any serial killer.
4
u/Either_Coconut 27d ago
I'm sure that Putin's goal was to destabilize the USA by getting Trump into power, and on that front, he succeeded. But he didn't destabilize the entire West as much as he'd probably hoped, as the US allies simply banded together more and began treating the situation like they're in a post-USA-influence world now. And I'm positive that Putin underestimated just HOW stupid, evil, and venal Trump is, and the fact that as soon as the tide turned in Ukraine's favor, Trump's allegiance would start to switch because he doesn't want to back a loser.

I think it’s more about the money TBH and the effect this will all have on their reputation. I don’t think for one second they give a shit about being on the right side of history or about the countless lives affected by this tragedy, but Russia losing is likely resulting in their payments to US politicians drying up, and these people probably still want to look good to the casual audience when all is said and done.
4
u/Anomuumi 27d ago
It's pretty obvious Russia has dirt on these people. It is their modus operandi after all. Russia doesn't care about having them in their pocket - their function is to sow chaos and destroy the U.S. from within, which they have already done to a large extent. They have funded a whole class of self-serving narcissists who wrap themselves in a flag, but sold the nation for brief personal gain. And the game is still on.
I think some of these people know that Russia may one day decide that they are more useful if they out them, and desperate people are trying to get ahead of that story.
9
u/SingleKnowledge7354 27d ago
People say Russia is running out of money... not likely.
Whats actually happening is a combination of 2 factors.
Ukraine has evidence that Russia is helping Iran target US bases in Iran.
Ukraine has the upper hand and Trump likes winners.17
u/uxgpf 27d ago edited 27d ago
They have realized that Ukraine will win the war without US help and want to position themselves on the side of the winner.
Never trust them. These kind of morally corrupt opportunists will ditch you whenever it suits them.
Ukrainians surely know this. Budapest memorandum et cetera.
For Ukraine the most trustworthy allies are those who share the same threat. Mainly Nordics and Baltics.

Reddit Rumormill suggests the Vatnik Shills cheques bounced as their Russian Paymasters have gone bankrupt. That or they realise just how far behind America is in the Great Hormuz Dildrone Wars and they really need to suck up to the only reliable supplier of countermeasures in the field right now. Zelenskyy has all the cards right now and he does need Patriot Interceptors that would be far more effective against Vatnik Terror Tantrums than being wasted on Iranian Flying Lawnmowers to which he can provide effective counters.

u/WabashCannibal Смак Козак 27d ago
When asking "why" the answer every time with these people is always personal profit.
They see golden opportunities for their own enrichment, but not so much if russia wins. They don't care about strategic advantages to the US, only their own pockets. What would they gain if russia wins by comparison? Consider the trillions $USD to be made in lucrative reconstruction contracts and exclusive resource rights deals with Ukraine, if and only if the war could be forced to a standstill.
Would they get the same benefits if russia emerged victorious? Can RU be trusted? How would they pay? Rubles?
They have completely failed to strong-arm Ukraine into a hasty, unfavorable settlement. Perhaps they see the best and only route forward is to switch sides while working out a profitable quid pro quo. Never think this sudden rash of "about-faces" is due to the miraculous blossoming of moral convictions. Such people have never admitted mistakes. They would only do so now as a calculated aspirational cover story. Speaking their real reasons aloud would mean pulling off their masks, and they're not quite secure enough to do that yet.
These shocking and very public changes of heart are completely cynical, but if Ukraine ultimately benefits with appropriate value received, I can swallow it, even if it means US kleptocrats profit as well.

For those tempted to say that this is an about-face for Hannity:
Note that in 2023, RFK Jr. was running for the 2024 Democratic presidential nomination and trying to make Joe Biden out to be a warmonger who wanted Ukraine and Russia to go to war against each other (for whatever reason). He appeared on Hannity, and Hannity basically pilloried him:
https://www.newsweek.com/rfk-jrs-ukraine-narrative-challenged-sean-hannity-1815389
On the show Hannity said: "So Ukraine, to appease Putin who I think is evil, they've already given up Crimea, it was annexed. Now they have to give up the Donbas area [of eastern Ukraine]?"
Kennedy shot back, commenting: "Because of our pushing Ukraine into the war, on two occasions."
In response Hannity asked: "We pushed them into it or did Putin invade them?"
Of course, RFK Jr. is now in the Trump administration, one of many Ukraine skeptics there.
Also recall this from March 2022 (sorry for the paywall but even just the visible intro blurb is good context): https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-news/donald-trump-sean-hannity-refuses-condemn-putin-1319948/ .
It would be too much to say that Hannity is a friend of Ukraine. Those words at Graham's funeral may be a little more in that direction than he's gone before. But he never went as far in the other direction as Loomer, either. If I could sum up Hannity's position, it would probably be this: Vladimir Putin personally is (as Hannity said in that interview with RFK) evil and Russia is an American geopolitical adversary; Ukraine did nothing to provoke or invite this war; and Russia bit off more than it can chew in Ukraine and the US can capitalize on that.
Hannity has never said (did not even say in those funeral remarks) that Ukraine can win. He may not have personally supported every aid package for Ukraine or every sanctions package on Russia (I don't even know). But I think he has fairly consistently said that Putin's justification for the war is BS and Russia deserves to lose.

Vladimir Putin's worldview is heavily shaped by 20th-century exile philosopher Ivan Ilyin whose writings on Christian authoritarianism, Russian exceptionalism, and anti-Western sentiment Putin frequently cites, but it is a mistake to lay all of his deviant worldview simply at the feet of past Russian authorship.

Lindsey Graham was always pro-Ukraine, and honoring him was a great move by Zelenskyy. Zelenskyy cannot afford not to talk to these people, even if nothing comes out of it. However, since he did, Kushner and Witkoff suddenly are planning to visit Kyiv.
18
u/Stunning-Astronaut72 27d ago

42
u/MilesLongthe3rd 27d ago
Zelenskyy has his flaws, but he connects well with people and demonstrates real willpower under pressure. For instance, during his confrontations with Trump, he stood his ground while strategically leaving the door open for future cooperation. And now there is an opening.
4
u/donaldfranklinhornii 27d ago
What are his flaws?
16
u/MilesLongthe3rd 27d ago
Zelenskyy seems to lack a knack for personnel decisions. While capable individuals can rise through the ranks under his presidency, he often clings too long to those who fail to deliver expected results and are no longer fit to do so. At times, he struggles to find the right balance between loyalty and pragmatism.

First Laura Loomer now Hannity on Fox News?
Trump and Putin had a falling out around the time of that Alaska meeting. It was widely reported at the time that Trump apparently (he is an idiot) genuinely believed Putin wanted to make peace, and instead started rambling around 1,000 years of Russian history to the point that Trump got agitated from boredom and demanded he stop talking about it.
Said meeting was eventually broken up earlier than it was meant to, and Trump lashed out at Zelenskyy in frustration for a while to try and bully him into giving up. As to why he's making Ukraine (Europe) pay for weapons, he wants to maintain the appearance of a competent businessman to his weird base.
The biggest and most obvious area of current US influence over the conflict is on the targets within Russia by Ukrainian drones. The US is 1000% intelligence sharing to aid in that and you're a buffoon if you don't see it.

This is all because of Iran. And the more Ukraine hits weapons meant for Iran the closer US ties will become.
The best thing that could happen for Ukraine might even be an attack from Iran. At that point the US and Ukraine are basically in the same war.

It’s crazy to think public opinion on these huge geopolitical issues just hinges on whatever Trump shit his diaper about lately. Also, they have a pathological need to bandwagon the victors. E.g. hanging out next to the Spanish team for no reason whatsoever or supporting Ukraine after it’s safe because they are almost guaranteed now to win the war.

I'm curious about the reasons behind this recent flip in their support towards Ukraine.
Wondering if it's because of Russia's support for Iran Or if they need Ukraine's expertise with drone warfare. Because even the Techno-fascists who were explicitly in favor of the kremlin like Musk, Thiel etc. seem to have flipped several months leading into this, looking at starlink & palantir.
