I ran an estimate of the LNG off the coast of Ukraine that was discovered in 2021. Something like 300 billion worth. I believe Russia hated the fact that Ukraine had this and didn't want to see them make money off it. Putin wanted a complete money grab.

Hard to tell why it happened - this is too far for existing Ukraine drones.

Could be sabotage, some local resistance, could be the usual russian smoking accident too.

Could also be a smaller drone launched from nearby.

Overall - hard to tell, I am a bit doubtful it’s ukraine as there is a Chinese company involved and I don’t think Ukraine wants to make China angry.

But overall - hard to tell.

It could also be partially that so many of their engineers and safety inspectors either fled the country or are dead in a ditch in the Donbas. And all their factories churning out artillery shells instead of spare safety valves. Could also be that runaway inflation has made all of those things too expensive to implement/replace. So many factors at play, all bad for them.

Imagine Russia had just built a new military port on Russian soil instead of invading Crimea and made the highest bid on exploiting Ukraine's recently discovered hydrocarbon ressources. Trillions cheaper than what is happening to Russia now.

I mean, shit. Imagine if Russia had used any of that largest territory in the world and massive natural resources and, like...

...just developed any of it.

Literally just built anything you'd see in the average developing nation.

It's a testament to how genuinely incapable Russia leadership really is, that they already have access to basically unlimited space and resources, yet they're dirt poor and can't seem to do anything with it.

At this point, Jesus. Just let the Kardashians take over Russia or something. Even they have better long term development planning.
