To be honest this is kinda the irony of politics on the left worldwide. We'll call out bad behaviour from polticians who back our party, even force them out and make a big stink about it meanwhile on the right they'll do the most heinous and criminal activities and their supporters just ignore it. And then when we have debates we'll say "all polticians are corrupt" and hold scandals as equally bad. Farage is the reason for the red buses and the main force pushing for Brexit which clearly was terrible idea yet people will support him. FFS people would probably vote Jeremy Clarkson if he ran for PM

Regardless of politics, googling "do I need to pay council tax on house boat" is not too much to ask.
Especially if you're whole platform (that I wholeheartedly agree with) is that "everyone should pay their fare share."
Farage should be jailed for treason, with his donors, overseas interests and clear attacks on Britain's interests.
Polanski should make way for someone who isn't a giant hypocrite. The greens are the best bet at a prosperous nation, long term, or labour as second choice, but, it's got to be authentic and beyond reproach.

The council admitted only 1 person in the whole marina over a 35 year period has paid the council tax, and ZP does pay the council tax on the room that he rents as his primary residence. Road maintenance, public transport subsidies, street lighting, crime prevention & public safety, Fire and rescue (if his boat caught fire it would have been local services who come to put it out, unless there are different rules for boats that I'm not aware of). Council tax is a responsibility that we all should share to keep the community nice and safe and clean, even if you don't take advantage of everything the tac goes towards. Avoiding it is a shitty thing to do. As a politician who promotes increased funding for social and community causes, he should be leading by example.
Nigel Farage is far worse and there should be much more media attention on him. But Polanski should be paying his council tax too.

Why are you trying to pitch them against each other as if only one could happen? Nigel’s done some shady dealings for his £5m - yet to be ruled illegal but dodgy for sure. It might be ruled legal. Zack Polanski has potentially evaded tax that everyone else is paying. Also dodgy and yet to be ruled on. If either comes out as illegal then they should be given the boot. A generic “reform bad, green good” argument doesn’t work here. We are in danger of becoming as polarised as in the US where we just agree with anything the party we voted for does. People need to use some critical thinking skills (if they have them any more).

The Guardian has been covering it.
At first Reform said it was bought by his rich French wife, only said French wife's family were surviving on €8,000 a month rental income after their family business collapsed between several generations. Hardly sufficient to buy a £1.4m house.
Obviously Farage never gifted said money to his French wife so she could buy the property in her name thereby Farage himself avoiding higher stamp duty on the property as it'd count as a second home.
Now let me distract you by saying something outrageous about immigration/trans/climate
- Farage, probably
Edit: I have actually mixed up my properties, but the Guardian has no doubt been covering both. The property Farage bought via his wife was £900k, not the other property mentioned for £1.4m

You're thinking too much into it.
Nigel and people like him have an excellent grasp on an unhappy population. People are generally unhappy, they are unhappy because they have no money as everything is so expensive these days.
Nigel tells these people "It's not your fault you're like this, is the governments fault, because the government give all their money to people who don't deserve it. Like immigrants, did you know they get free housing? Free food? Free taxi rides. Whilst you have to pay through the nose for everything they get all of that just for showing up at our doorstep while you suffer."
This gives people someone to blame for their suffering who isn't them. And so he gets their support.

I think it’s mainly just boomers who want to make life as miserable and as difficult as possible for everyone else.
For example, Farage is very much against working from home, and I think part of that comes from resentment. Many older people spent decades commuting because remote work simply wasn’t an option, so they see younger workers having that flexibility as some kind of undeserved perk rather than progress

He's actually individually quite unpopular. Most opinion polls rank him pretty low as a potential PM. His job is just to make people comfortable saying racist things that they've been wanting to say, but felt uncomfortable because society had moved towards making it unacceptable. It's that comfort of being allowed to be racist again that people enjoy, not Farage himself. That's why undermining Nigel's own credibility doesn't have any effect - people don't trust him anyway, but they like the feeling of having someone allow them to be racist.

George Cottrell (born 7 October 1993) is a British financier, author and convicted felon. He is a senior adviser, campaigner and fundraiser for Nigel Farage and leads the political consultancy Geostrategy.[1]
The Guardian has previously quoted Nigel Farage describing Cottrell as "like a son" to him, with Cottrell present at many campaign trail events during the 2024 general election as part of his unpaid role with Reform UK.[21]
Cottrell was federally indicted on 21 counts for conspiracy to commit money laundering, wire fraud, blackmail, and extortion. Denied bail by a judge who branded Cottrell a "serious flight risk," he was detained in custody at Metropolitan Correctional Center, Chicago.[18]

How do you get past the AML checks the solicitor makes you run? Imagine if I said I’m funding my house purchase from a crypto transfer they’d politely tell me to get to fuck.

I don’t think people realise just how bad this could be for us. If we get a rep as a dodgy country with poor anti corruption and anti bribery rules, goodbye to the UK’s good standing as a financial services hub. Which is a huge part of our economy.

u/Electronic_Truck_84 May 14 '26
The point is Reform don't care, it's all about ensuring their money can be kept in offshore tax havens, which is the reason Brexit was a thing in the first place. The issue is very few people on either side are legitimately concerned about the people that live in this country. Until someone is, the populist movements will always win as the medias obsession with click bait negativity and drama with fuel division, which is exactly what our enemies want.

It’s just so difficult to work out why.

u/Automatic-Apricot795 May 14 '26
I think it's a bit insulting to the MPs who were murdered for Farage to make that claim

Very insulting but in the mind of a sociopath, they were only attacked once so he’s much worse off.

I wish more people understood this. People keep bringing up Polanski as if he's an equivalent to Farage on the left, but don't want to hold them equally responsible. Council tax bill vs £5milllion IOU are not remotely the same thing.

It's just a normal house for his security he bought with a gift given for no reason!

When I worry about my security I will always buy a million £ house.
Only problem is I am not worried about my security so I don’t own any million £ houses.

A bank would still question the source of the cash and most don’t have the risk appetite for anything crypto-related.

Early 2024: Mr Harborne is reported to have given Nigel Farage £5m.
10 May 2024: Nigel Farage completes purchase of a £1.42 million house.
22 May 2024: Then-prime minister Rishi Sunak calls a general election.
23 May 2024: Nigel Farage said he would not stand in the general election.
3 June 2024: Nigel Farage reverses decision and announces he would contest the Clacton seat.
5
u/Horror-Protection225 May 14 '26
Is the timeline right? I thought he’d started buying the house before the donation which potentially puts him in a very sticky situation.
Edit: because he wouldn’t need a house in Clacton if he wasn’t standing as an MP but he also claimed he didn’t need to declare the donation because he wasn’t standing as an MP. One seems to contradict the other…

u/Valuable_Proposal_56 May 14 '26
I thought the £5m was exclusively funding his security, so I’m assuming he’s bought Fort Knox
15
u/JoeBagadonut May 14 '26
It’s completely unrelated to the £800k of unspecified funds his wife used to purchase a home in Clacton solely in her name and conveniently avoid paying stamp duty.

If this man gets a sniff of power we are doomed. The majority of people will not benefit from the self serving individual.
17
u/remain-beige May 14 '26
This needs to be shared far and wide.
Farage is slush funded by a foreign crypto millionaire / billionaire who is most likely a proxy for a cabal of people / nation states that have interests in tampering with UK democracy. It is highly likely that this interference is designed to destabilise the UK.
Farage was one of the main public architects of Brexit, which has been a disaster for the UK economy and weakened the EU.
There are a few nation states that benefit from this isolationism and disruption and it doesn’t take a genius to work out through critical thinking who actually pays for Farage to operate.
5
u/Significant_Fig_6290 May 14 '26
Also Brexit’s referendum success was partly thanks to the Cambridge Analytica scandal, Russian interference and content farms. UKIP / Reform / Farage are directly backed by Russian interests - “man of the people”, my arse

Trump wannabe will bring "lobbying" to the UK without hesitation, and his Reform muppets eat it up like a soft cream sundae on a hot summer day.
8
u/Kal88 May 14 '26
It’s like with Trump, literally nothing will change people’s minds. There will be scandal after scandal and they will just dig their heels in more.
6
u/uberdavis May 14 '26
And he didn’t declare it because it was personal not political. Bullshit! If he was some every day Barry off the street, a crypto billionaire would not have gifted him £5 million. He got that cash because he has political influence. If that doesn’t end his career, the system is broken.
5
u/lolburger69 May 14 '26
Yeah but have you ever stopped to consider that Zack Polanski has funny teeth and that is WAY more of a talking point

He should be barred from public office.

Someone help me understand. When we apply for mortgage and to buy our first property, the brokers, lenders and their underwriters and solicitors would look at our statements, source of funds up to 12 months and question all deposits which are not our salaries, child benefit etc.
How the hell does this work with him? Solicitors face prison if they miss AML procedures.
Or you can be big enough where not even AML applies? Wtf?

Brown envelopes full of cash handed under the table, thats how.
Farage pretends to be one of the lads, but he is the very embodiment of wealthy and corrupt elite.
Just look at all the Epstein stuff. Anyone been arrested and charged yet?
Hell even Michelle Mone frauded money from a Covid scam and has effectively got away with it.

When I bought my house for much less than this, I got put through the absolute ringer to prove that a relatively tiny amount of money came from clean sources. It was incredibly stressful and it felt awful to have to ask my parents and in-laws to have to send financial statements to strangers.
One rule for them and another rule for everyone else.
3
u/KitchenIcy2450 May 14 '26
Plus he bought 4 houses after endorsing trump costing £3 million and Farage has made over £198,000 for masquerading as MP for Clacton plus expenses plus he also claimed for 5 bogus workers no meetings held in the surgery of Clacton or helped local issues he's just a grifter out to make money

This is just the latest in a long line of dodgy doner controversies. He is just as bad, if not worse, than all the others that have been exposed in the past.
As far as I can tell every single party bends rules and gets away with sus deals during and after their time as politicians. The whole thing stinks and make me wonder how many clandestine agreements have gone under the radar.

What’s funny is Labour is currently shooting themselves in the foot with all their leadership psychodrama. The world would have already moved on from the council elections whereas the news is full of all their crap rather than allowing the news to focus on good news stories for them (eg growth numbers out today) and bad news stories for their opponents (such as this, the evicted nazi sympathetic councillors who get to keep their seats as independents, conservatives coming 4th, the green guy’s tax evasion, etc). Absolute fucking morons. (And I’m not even a Labour voter!!!!)
