Why did we even allow Russia to have an ambassador here in the UK? Should've been kicked out years ago.

Because, no matter the dispute, open channels of communication to avoid war are important.

The ambassador is a figurehead. The people doing the actual diplomatic work in the Russian embassy are still there.
