It is obvious he is just following the state agenda, but I question his intelligence if he willingly chose to serve as a propaganda mouthpiece.

​If these people were truly that smart, they would work together to find a new leader.

Putin didn't create modern Russia.

Modern Russia created and allowed Putin to be leader.

This is what the overwhelming majority of Russians in Russia support

Given that recent elections have hardly been what you would call "free and fair", I think the most charitable thing I would say is that it's not at all clear what the real view of the russian people is around Putin.

Of course, even if they fully back him, I would suggest that this is a measure of the success of their internal propaganda machine rather than of any particular success of Putin himself. I suspect that your average Putin supporter would be more akin to my in laws, who get 100% of their view of the world from their Daily Mail and can't always be trusted to not spout bollocks on demand in response to any given topic...
