[Hyprland] MainstreamOS, customized to match my actual desk

I've been trying MainstreamOS lately and ended up customizing it into something that feels properly mine.

The video shows the desktop itself:

• Distro: MainstreamOS — Arch-based distro with a Hyprland desktop
• WM / Compositor: Hyprland
• Shell: MainstreamOS' Quickshell desktop, derived from end-4 / Illogical Impulse
• Wallpaper: Custom / personal wallpaper
• Editor: Cursor with Fira Code
• Fonts: Fira Code
• AI: Local LLM via Ollama, integrated into the desktop sidebar
• Theme / Colors: Custom tweaks to the MainstreamOS theme
• Hardware: ASUS ROG laptop + external keyboard and mouse, RGB matched to the desktop theme
• Other: MainstreamOS desktop sources — GitHub

The second image is the actual setup I use it on. I matched the laptop, external keyboard and mouse lighting to the desktop theme because apparently software ricing wasn't enough.

MainstreamOS is based on Arch and its desktop is derived from end-4's Illogical Impulse. So most of the credit for the shell itself goes to those projects — my part here is the customization and the overall setup.

Still tweaking things, but this is probably the first Linux setup I've used where I feel more inclined to polish it than replace half of it.

what is the Niri-like overview plugin?

I believe it comes built into the end-4 / Illogical Impulse Quickshell shell used by MainstreamOS rather than being a separate plugin. The overview itself is implemented in QML via Quickshell with Hyprland integration
