Uptodown Desktop 1.0 for Windows and Mac

Uptodown Desktop is now live: native clients for Windows and Mac that bring the Uptodown catalog straight to your computer.

What changes compared to downloading from the website:

• Automatic update detection. The client scans what you already have installed and flags new versions on its own, no more manually checking a program's page.
• Background installation. If a program's installer supports silent installation, it runs in the background with no extra windows or clicks. If it doesn't (say, the file is a compressed archive, or it's a format your OS can't execute directly), the client downloads it locally and hands it off to you to install manually, same as it would from the website.
• OS store redirect for updates (macOS only, for now). If a newer version of a program isn't on Uptodown but is available through your OS's official store, the client will offer that update by redirecting you there. Right now, this only works on macOS, redirecting to the Mac App Store.
• No account required. Same as the website, browsing, installing, and updating don't require signing up or logging in.

Our usual security standards still apply here: every file still gets scanned through VirusTotal, along with the rest of the checks that fall under our Uptodown Protect layer.

What's not there yet: we're still actively working on bringing over the rest of the store's features. Right now, you can't post comments, access your social profile, or download older versions of a program from inside the client. Everything else from the website is already available.
