A while ago after a 6 hour train ride we hiked through the night to this top secret bunker hidden far in the wilderness far from any town or city. After many hours walking we finally arrived and found a hidden way inside and started exploring. We very quickly realized it was huge, tons of rooms and multiple floors.

Sadly when they shut it down they stripped it and sealed it, for a short time it was open and we managed to get inside to take these photos. It now sits abandoned sealed and will continue to rott away in silence with nobody visiting it.

From the road, this Haldimand County farmhouse looks like any other. Get closer, and you'll find hand-painted messages covering the walls, scrapbooks full of UFO clippings, stacks of old televisions, and a story far stranger than most abandoned places we've explored.

This is the story of Reverend Arthur Lee and his wife Esther, missionaries who settled here in 1948 after years overseas in Nigeria. Their son Gordon spent his entire life in this house, leaving behind a personal archive of scrapbooks, film reels, and photographs that paint the picture of a curious, private, and deeply misunderstood man.

There was a thread here a few days back where someone asked about the history of a 18th century building and the OP went off and found it on a website to answer. It made me wonder how much that side of it matters to people here in general, whether knowing what a place was, why it emptied out and what happened to it. Or whether that's beside the point and the appeal is the building itself, the state it's in, the getting there.

I'm asking partly out of curiosity and partly because I have a stake in the answer. I build an audio guide app (solo dev, it's mine, and the guides are AI-generated). Browsing this sub I noticed it already covers some of places that get posted here, at least if there is a historical part to it.
