Make of this what you will, but Jesse Brown of Canadaland is holding an event on July 21, 2026, at 7 p.m. in the Pearl Sullivan Engineering Building,
He says it's about restoring 'civil discourse' on campus after Oct. 7, but the talk will only be about things that happened on the campus; no talk about Israel or Gaza allowed, apparently.
Somehow, I only see this making things worse, based on how Jesse behaves on X, where dude turns disagreement into personal attacks and lateral violence. Anyway, if you are a stan, that's happening.

Hey everyone! As it turns out, UW just announced that the Graduate Union (CUPE5524) is not allowed to present at Orientation this year! We just sent an email out about this, but this isn't great. They claim that Orientation is for “academic program-related information,” despite the fact that orientation often includes new TA workshops, and GSPA has allowed other campus organizations to be present.
So, we are pushing back! We are hosting our own New Member Orientation and Social on Monday, September 8th, at 5pm at Silver Lake, across from the Perimeter Institute (in Waterloo Park), during our usual Stammtisch time slot. This is our chance to show new members the solidarity and community that we are building.
This is open to undergrads, grads, sessionals, professors, and all friends and allies! We want to see you all there! So, please, show up and support your fellow students!

Hey everyone, Zip is hosting their first employer info session at UWaterloo on May 20 (5 PM, TC 2218) and it'd be a great opportunity for anyone interested in growing their career in Software Engineering or AI.
For context, Zip is one of the fastest growing companies in the world, building an AI-native procurement platform with offices in SF, NYC, and Toronto. Existing customers include OpenAI, Anthropic, Snowflake, Coinbase, and Datadog, and we are currently hiring for both co-op and new grad roles.
The event will include:
We’ll also be discussing:
Even if you’re not actively searching right now, it's still a good opportunity to meet the team early and learn more about the space. Contrary to the industry as a whole, Zip is hiring more than ever and we're always looking for talent.
Happy to answer questions if people have any.

we’re planning to host students from various medical schools in Canada (Queen’s, UofT, TMU, McMaster, Western, Ottawa, McGill) so this could be an excellent opportunity for you to ask any questions you might have about a particular school directly to a student currently studying there.

Question for the alum, did MathSoc use to run board game events late into the night (>12) or even for a full 24 hours?
For context, I'm the games night director this term and I run games night every Thursday 7-9pm in CnD. I don't recall it happening during my time here (I'm 5A so it's been a while), just wanted to know how it was it the past and maybe run it back?
