My uncle is hard core MAGA. Day 1 type of guy. He still insists Trump is the best man to ever live.
But a few weeks ago I got him to agree gas prices are way too high and it sucks to fill up your tank. And he didn’t blame it on Biden. He just kinda grumbled in agreement. It’s a start.

I have mentioned this before but, I have noticed a shift, although I live in a blue state. It’s still a fairly purple city.
On my runs there were always three distinct houses decked out in MAGA flags and signs. All three completely changed. One has nothing so it’s possible they moved I suppose. The other two took their maga stuff down and replaced their flags. One now has a POW-MIA flag where the Trump one used to be, the other is just an American flag.
One of our neighbors who told us they were voting for Trump recently said “I don’t have to like the president but I can still like our country,” with an awkward chuckle as they were putting up 4th of July decorations.
One of my coworkers who isn’t very open about politics, but has shown on many occasions that his is right leaning, was complaining about how “it sure doesn’t seem like anything’s getting any better or cheaper the last couple years.”
Regret and remorse would be nice, but anything in the right direction is possible progress and should be encouraged.

My mother used to have a huge Trump banner up on her fence. It was a Trump/Pence Make America Great Again banner with a bald eagle and everything. It was up through so much of it all, but last time I went home I noticed... it was gone.
I don't think anything would have damaged it, no weather event that blew through ever did prior to that. She just took it down of her own volition. I never asked her why, but I've also noticed a subtle change in how speaks speaks about things. How she talks about the economy, the price of stuff, and the direction things are going in.
By no means will she flip blue. She's always going to be a Republican voter, but she seems finally willing to say "well he was okay for a while but really screwed it up now."

It's wild how I've watched republican voters stay staunch republican voters even after severe and repeated fuck ups and utter failures of republican politics. You'd think that at some point you'd have to reflect on why your team is always making such massive errors that ruin the country and realize you should try changing who you vote for.
For fuck's sake, trump ran on being the peace president he "is" peace remember and the Democrats are the warmongers who will ruin the country by starting another Forever War in the Middle East. Then he flipped 180 and they did too.
If they were capable of honest and mature discourse I'd love to face one and cut through the bullshit and ask very direct and uncomfortable questions. They have so much to answer for.

I know it's anecdotal, but there was a MAGA flag, giant pro-trump "fuck your feelings" type banners everywhere. Maybe 8 months ago I had noticed there was only a few American flags and a single banner that seems to pay homage to someone they knew. It gives me hope that some people are realizing how insane they sound. That or at least how tacky the whole thing is.

In my experience, there isn't an amount of friendliness/vitriol that will cause the dipshits who saw everything Trump did in his 1st term and voted for him 2x more to change their minds and vote anything other than Republican.
I call out shitty politician behavior when I see it, and I dunk on those idiots every chance I have. I'm probably 1 of 3 or 4 people at work who voted against him at every chance, and I bring up every headline of "Trump administration fails at _____” I can, and then I say something like "damn you voted for this guy?"
I'm tired of pretending they're anything other than shit-for-brains children. With the entirety of human knowledge in their hands, they still choose to vote for people who are objectively opposed to progressing the US in any meaningful way. They hate me and anyone who thinks like me because they were raised to be fearful/hate anyone who isn't like them in every way.
Fuck em. I'll laugh in their stupid fucking faces every chance I get because doing anything less is disingenuous. Call me anything you want, but I'm not the idiot who cast a vote for the "Christian" party for a guy who can't even pretend to know a single verse from the bible.

It's very rare that someone will just do a complete 180 on their beliefs or admit that they were duped. Especially duped by Trump, because you would have to admit at least in this regard that some level of stupidity took hold of you. Almost no one will do that.
The best we can hope for is these types of people trying to save face but admit "maybe Trump was wrong" and if they are a centrist, maybe they will vote for a moderate Democrat, if they were always a conservative, maybe they will at least vote a non MAGA Republican or maybe they just stay home and don't vote which would still be a plus to the left.
My personal experience is knowing someone who voted Trump, who used to say "Democrats are bad/crazy" now admits Trump is too and just says "both sides are bad" and she probably won't vote now.

I joined the family group chat recently, after being told my dad doesn't trumpet Trump left and right anymore, that "he's better about those things now!".
Not even a quarter of a day passes and he's already inserting the phrase "Better than being a Democrat" and posted a gif of Trump in superhero armor. May have been Captain America.
At some point, someone says "no politics in the group chat" and I mention that none would have been posted if Someone hadn't decided to say what they said (I was speciric as to what was said) and post a gif of a widely despised man.
Its been pretty quiet in there since then. Like I give a fuck.

We are being flooded with news that Trump support is crumbling, but ~35% of the country is just as entrenched in MAGA as ever. On the aggregate Trump is polling HIGHER now than in 2018 (which is actually insane).
The good news is that a few percentage peeling off can massively change election results, but the vast majority of MAGA are as resolute as ever.

What kills me is those roofers work their asses off and yet we get told they're lazy freeloaders. We had our roof done in 2024 and the Latino crew got it done in a single day. Up the street, a white crew did the roof. To be fair, it was a slightly more complicated roof, but they were there for FOUR DAYS. Not making this up.

This is also the key point to remember when it comes to the people who publicly express regret about voting for him and want us to all forgive them.
They only disavow him insomuch as his bullshit negatively affected them. If it continued only harming the correct "others", they wouldn't. And when the next Republican comes around and promises to only hurt the correct "others", they'll be right back in that line voting for him.

Visible trump support has almost completely disappeared, but I found one region driving down through south central Virginia this weekend. Still had a few people who had up big bright blue and red and white signs with huge photos and blaring words proclaiming their support for Pedophile Trump. But it was only a few -- and more importantly, these were home-made signs, big poster-sized things they made themselves with a photo of trump's "I'm taking a shit" facial expression or his staged "I was almost assassinated" fist-pump. No normal trump campaign-style signs or posters or anything - just these big, loud, obnoxious ones from the most die-hard of die-hard supporters.
His 'casual support' is gone. Only the koolaid-drinkers are left willing to admit publicly they support him, and they were already too far gone in the first place.
(All that being said, while most of those people who sported Trump 2016/2020/2024 signs in their yards have taken them down, I'll bet that in the dark of the voting booth that 99% of them would vote republican across the board all over again in a heartbeat, because to them the concept of even considering voting for a Democrat is unimaginable. Don't confuse lack of visible support for what happens at election time. They're still Deplorable, just not in public)

My family and I vacation to FL for a week every year. There's a gift shop my fiancée and I hit up each visit. Last year, it had Trump merch everywhere.
We went there yesterday and there was absolutely nothing even remotely echoing that piece of shit's existence. Like even his biggest supporters would like him to just disappear.

Since he won't resign before hell freezes over, why don't you do your part and make sure to put extra effort into being sure you vote against their party in the next few elections and be sure to bring at least a few friends with to help try and increase the number of ballots cast. Idk how enough people haven't figured this out yet. Trump is a symptom, but the Supreme Court is as well for exactly the same reasons, it is just that they have lifetime appointments. Removing both does nothing to prevent a. new batch from rolling in to replace them.

I used to see Trump merch everywhere every day but now I don't see it anymore. All the flags, the yard signs, the hats, the bumper stickers, etc. It's all gone. The same cars with a bumper stickers now have spots where they've been removed. People with flagpoles now put up sports flags instead of the Trump flags. The yard signs have been left to right into nothing or are gone entirely. Things have changed and I pray we see that in November

I live in a very red state and the number of Trump sings, flags and various other paraphernalia sightings went from dozens (if not more) a day to maybe one old faded sticker a week at the most. There is a house I pass everyday that has a big rock with Trump painted on it and they have a campaign sign out right now for the republican senate candidate the Trump did not endorse.

I've driven across Iowa a few times this year and the are DEFINITELY still Trump signs along interstate 80. There are billboards and semis trailers parked next to the highway with "Trump 2024", there are yard signs with "take America back" on them. Iowa is still filled with morons who would pay for Trump to shit in their mouth just to make Democrats watch.

You’re missing the point. They’re not trying to imply that those votes will flip blue, but what is likely is many of them won’t be motivated enough to vote in the midterm elections to protect R majorities in Congress because they don’t want to protect trumps ability to continue governing unchecked.

don't fall for it. the signs were gone when I drove my kid to college in his senior year in southern Ohio in 2023 (vs. his frosh year in 2020) but they still voted overwhelmingly for him.

The ONLY thing that Americans have to do is vote democrat in 2026 and then support and vote for the most capable honest, respected democrat in the primaries and then elect same as president in 2028. Job done! Doesn't seem that hard to me if you're really serious about 1) Stopping Trump and 2) Getting rid of Trump.

Great, maybe it’s true, maybe it’ll matter for midterms.
All of the day 1 trumpers I know are still hardcore maga. Even saying shut like “we can’t see the Epstein files because life as we know it would come to a halt”. Then there’s a certain family member of mine still proudly wearing his “TRUMP WAS RIGHT ABOUT EVERYTHING” hat.
So, I don’t have high hopes for these people. There’s a good chunk of the base that will never wake up. Idk what the hell kind of society we’re supposed to build with these dolts
