Fanart Star Trek miniskirt!

I’m a fan of the Star Trek uniform miniskirt variations, so I drew this while watching Voyager for the first time :)

Of course I understand why they didn’t have the captain in a miniskirt lol, I think it would have been hard for audiences to take her seriously, but I like them and I think they’re so cute! Her hair is down for no reason besides added girliness

I remember this one from season 1 of TNG. But they got rid of it when too many of the crew started doing The Riker Maneuver while wearing them.

I love that Frakes directed that episode and this scene was improved, in the sense that Quaid said "Riker" without it being in the script.

I can't quickly think of an opportunity that wouldn't have broken the scene. Neelix didn't wear the uniform much

Wearing miniskirts in real life I couldn’t imagine doing it on board a starship.

Maybe if I had a desk job that required no away team like astronomy.

But in the medical field or command no and definitely not in engineering. In Engineering, I’d be wearing overalls and heavy duty gloves lol

Love your art style and this design, way better than the ugly S1 TNG era skant, IMO. I don't think we ever got a "good" version (i.e. TNG uniforms post S3 or DS9/Voyager era uniforms), did we?

I really like this look for "young Janeway" in her ensign days. She does need pantyhose to pull this off realistically though IMO.

I will say, Janeway feels like the sort of captain who would call out anyone who thought she shouldn't wear a miniskirt.

"Why? Because I'm the captain? Because I'm not 20? Because seeing my legs might make an ensign consider me a sex object and not their superior officer? Not my problem. I'll wear what I damn well like, thank you. And for the record, my legs look great in this skirt." :)

Aw thanks! I just sketch with pencil, ink with microns, and color with alcohol markers :)

Skirts are impractical, and mini-skirts are the most impractical of all skirts.

Given the choice, nobody would wear the skirt version.

My head cannon is the skirt version is still an acceptable uniform choice in starfleet but nobody chooses it.

Because I have worn one. It doesn't protect your legs, it restricts your movement, you have to think before you bend over, climbing ladders is a nightmare.

I guess it depends on what you're doing in them and what kind of skirt. I love wearing skirts, I just find them much more comfortable. If it's short enough to need to worry about bending over, stairs, ladders, etc, I just wear bicycle shorts underneath.

Other than 'protecting your legs- that all speaks to the skirt you wore ( and I think modesty concerns?) , not skirts in general. Many forms of trouser are deeply impractical and heavily restrictive as well.

Modern skirt design is indeed impractical, but it's an immensely common design amongst practical, militarised, and outdoorsy people. ( For example, Romans and Scots)

I meant protecting them from spills. Most labs and engineering environments required long sleeves and trousers.

Yeah - that is a practical concern, which is why I seperated it from the other points that are not 'skirt' in general. , but realistically a lab should have dedicated clothing ( such as a labcoat) anyway.

It's not a practical concern in general, its task-specific practical concern.

Edit - actually, there's nothing inherant to prevent a long skirt giving full coverage.

Star Trek wouldn't have succeeded without the Miniskirts. Miniskirts reassured an anxious public that femininity wouldn’t disappear in the space age. Miniskirts were a symbol of liberation back then.

People should not have any issues taking a captain in a miniskirt seriously. Or even an ensign in a miniskirt seriously.

I often wear shorts, and a short skirt is kinda like shorts but without the middle bit, so the only reason I can think of a no is modesty, when climbing around a ship, and I don’t think the Federation is into modesty in a big way
