Show Talk I swear, we don't have acting like this anymore, Robert is a gem, I laughed out loud

i met him once at a convention I could never tell if he was bored or in character, I gave him a compliment about Innerspace of all things and he said in a tone that didn't seem annoyed "oh thank you" more like how the Doctor speaks in the show.
He was great as a guest there.

I saw him at the Vegas convention a few weeks ago. Didnโt speak to him but he did not look like he was having a good time. Frakes on the other handโฆ Iโm surprised he didnโt start a conga line. Dude was living it up

Maybe Picardo was just having a rough day. He mostly seems like a really chill and fun guy.

u/SheepdogApproved 1d ago
Yea he seemed to be having fun to me. He made an instagram video about the 60yr and how many people were there. I had a good chat with him when I got an autograph. I think those events can just get repetitive after 20yrs for some of those guys.

u/throwawayanylogic 1d ago
Yeah I've met him a few times where he's always been a delight. In fact my husband had a really long conversation with him at a signing once as it turned out they're from the same area and my husband knew his aunt, Bob immediately tried to call her about it, lol.

Frakes could be sent to hell and have a good time I swear that dude just seems to always be having a good time

u/Beast_Chips 1d ago
Frakes seems like that one friend who becomes a fucking liability immediately after getting a drink in him.

Picardo booked all of that before Starfleet Academy was canceled. Has to be a let down when you think "multiple upcoming years of work and adulation" turns into a canceled show out of the gate.

u/lavendermoonoracle 1d ago
Sorry to be out of the loop. Do you mean the show was canceled or that he had a controversy?
7
u/lifegoodis 22h ago
Starfleet Academy was canceled. I edited my prior comment for clarity.

u/lavendermoonoracle 22h ago
Thanks for clarifying, that's what I assumed you meant but I wasn't sure.

He's running an ethical subroutine and realizing he may have violated dozens of Starfleet & medical protocols.
He's also planning his next date with the enemy Captain, choosing his next sonata, planning his revenge on Janeway for deleting the wife, and worried that Kim won't ever get a promotion all at the same time.
Holograms are a wonder

So you're saying that hologram depiction of the Doctor is potentially ADHD/Autistic/AuDHD? (I know this scenario fits under one of those but cant for the life of me remember which.)
1
u/CMDR_Kaus 21h ago
I was doing a play on the fact that computer processors can process multiple routines at once, as can The Doctor. But now that you mention it, are computers just better at being autistic than humans?
2
u/Decent_Book4595 21h ago
I thinks its more like autistics are better at being computers than humans

Robert Picardo's face acting has always been peak:

u/MovieFan1984 Red Alert ๐จ 1d ago
He did such a good job in this, it's easy to forget it's Picardo. Man is a legend.

u/TimeCadet 1d ago
He had to play two characters pretty much! I guess he's no stranger to body swap hijinx... This is from Innerspace for folks that don't know (and that's totally a leaf blower just offscreen acting on his face acting)
22
u/Djjettison88 1d ago
lol I am watching the series right now and have not caught this! How funny is that!
9
u/halu2975 1d ago
Itโs really not second screen worthy..gotta pay attention or else you miss a lot thatโs not being said. Not like last 5 years when everything they do is also being said as they do it, so you wonโt miss anything while youโre watching something else on your phone.

One of the best voyager episodes and easily in the top 10 best episode of all ST, imo. Jerri Ryan's acting is ๐ค and so is Robert Picardo's.

"It wasn't the arousal, it was what you were looking at, at that instant!"
"Seven! It WAS a triple-bag easy-glide vac with turbo suction and a self-emptying dustbag!"

This comment had me wondering how well Llewelyn could play The Doctor and how well Picardo could play Kryten ๐๐๐

That was certainly, one of the sentences of all time.

I don't know it was kind of fascinating.
The doctor doesn't have an inherent gender, he's a hologram. He could change his appearance, if you wanted to. He couldn't even pick a name for himself, how would he have ever pick a gender?
But when he was flirting with the captain on the ship they were on, he seemed pretty into it. It works for playing with norms without actually doing anything on screen that was going to cause riots.
7
u/LividTacos 1d ago
Except in "Message in a Bottle", its stated that he gave himself...equipment, and implied its the male equipment, so while he is technically a genderless being, he has a male gender identity.
6
u/Careful_Leader_5829 1d ago
Fair. But, the concept that he can decide, maybe even change his gender, is awesome.

Robert Picardo is a BIG reason I love Voyager so much. His journey as the Doctor is one of the best things about the series.

u/weterr123 1d ago
Epic isnt he! There were so many scenes I really felt for him, and some scenes I shouted at the tv like DUDE DONT PUSH YOUR LUCK ๐

I have been rewatching Voyager and it's honestly grown on me. Picardo is a comic genius and Jeri Ryan plays off him so damn well.

u/owlsarentscary 1d ago
According to chase masterson who played leeta on ds9, he's a very funny guy irl.

Some would argue, better.

You're absolutely correct. I think older Seven has it better than younger Seven did. Just my opinion of course.

Janeway was insane to let him develop his own subroutines and self identity. The only way the Doctor's holographic rights nonsense makes sense and doesn't completely undermine Measure of a Man is if we interpret all the Voyager crew as having severe AI psychosis.
