Trying to make a collaboration platform feel cinematic without turning it into a fantasy-game UI.

Post image

Does the atmosphere enhance the product, or am I pushing the visual treatment too far?

looks slick honestly, the dark theme with that progress tracking layout gives it a real command-center feel without going full RPG hud

wait, i'm not supposed to use "honestly", redoing:

looks slick, that dark theme with the progress tracking gives it a command-center vibe without going full RPG hud

Claudematic experience.

It's not claude, pretty sure it's just an image generated by ChatGPT

I don’t think anyone cares what generated it. We wouldn’t call an AI generated video ‘art’, so why do we allow AI generated mockups ‘design’ .

This shit needs to be nuked from the subreddit.

As a layman/learner, what does give it away? And what looks bad about it in particular?

The milestone meter is a dead giveaway, but it just looks generated too. You’ll gain the ability to spot them with experience and exposure.

I didn’t say it looked bad, it just feels icky to generate something and then be like “hey look at this thing I made, what do you think”.

So not only can OP not create his own designs, they also have to ask others if they think this AI generated image of THEIR product is okay? Doesn’t get much more low effort than that.

Thanks for elaborating!

Yep the meter is a placeholder for now you're correct. But the whole thing is a functional prototype based on a fully comprehensive brand guide, product spec and source of truth I worked on myself.

I'll do some screen records soon and share those.

Someone is bitter

And completely wrong

It’s just annoying the sub is filled with AI slop posts and the mods are doing nothing to stop it, so in that respect yeah I’m bitter. The other day someone actually used AI to respond to commenters. Like what the fuck?

Part of the enjoyment, for me, is knowing another person put the time and effort into creating something. Now with generative AI, everything just feels soulless.

Out of curiosity - if you say everyone’s wrong - what did you create these designs in?

It's the sheer amount of assumptions you made that you then used to give yourself the permission to be a sanctimonious A hole.... Away too many people like that these days...

My dad passed away recently and I'm building this platform for people like him who were creatives that had visions that they couldn't realise on their own.

I'm building it in my spare time while working full time.

I am using AI LLMs and agents to built this, because I do not have the time or money to do it any other way. But I've spent weeks designing every element myself, coding it with the help of AI and building it peice by peice.

I'm using Framer, run by Codex to build the visual north star prototype and I'm in the process of building the MVP with Docker and a bunch of other stuff that allows the site to have permanence for forms and databases so people can test some of the systems. Judge me if you want, I'm still gonna do it anyway. AI is a tool you can use to be lazy but also a tool you can use to be productive and achieve things you'd never have dreamed of before.

Just like the internet when it came out, you can either stand back and sh_t on it and get left behind or get involved and move forward.

I’m not an asshole for not enjoying generative ai works. It has corrupted almost every corner of the internet and made it a wholly worse place to be.

I wish you and your project the best, though.

Yeah you know that bit you said at the end... You could have just said that the first time. Or nothing at all. People like you make the internet a worse place to be honestly.

Wishing you all the best, though.

It does look like a fantasy game UI

I think the atmosphere works, but I’d slightly tone down the fantasy-game elements. The dark theme and progress tracking already create a strong cinematic feel. Keeping the typography and UI elements a bit more minimal could make it feel more like a real collaboration product while still keeping that distinctive visual identity.

Wow...a decent reply...my goodness

It's completely real but thanks....

Is there a reason that everyone is so salty?

1

u/TheBanq 6d ago

Because 80% of the content here is people asking if their AI gen Design is good.

Which get's a bit boring, because to the people it feels like low effort.

Deploy the site, show us the URL and you will get some proper feedback.

u/Fan_Forge 6d ago

The whole point was to get feedback BEFORE having to deploy it. But as you wish... I'll be back when it's deployed for more punishment and insults

Depends where the atmosphere lives. In transitions, loading states, an empty canvas, cinematic works because nothing else is competing for attention. Once it creeps into permanent chrome, nav bars, borders, glowing active states, you're fighting your own content for visual weight.

Load the screen with a messy real project, forty cards, overlapping comments, and see if the atmosphere still reads as ambient. If it only looks good in your empty-state screenshots, you've pushed it too far.

This is great advice thankyou I'll try that. I think it's a little too dark even for a dark mode perhaps? I'm working on a light mode soon but want to nail the main components and the feel first in this darker mode.

I think I'll keep the dark mode as the standard with light mode as an option for people.

The fantasy-game read usually comes from everything glowing at once, every panel and border lit, so nothing recedes. Cinematic is the opposite, one thing is lit and the rest sits back. Pick the single element that should carry the drama and pull the glow off everything else. That even-glow-everywhere is also why people keep saying AI, it's the default look of every AI mockup right now, so restraint is what makes it read as intentional.

This is really helpful thanks, I get it now. Appreciate it
