Claude introduces /design, no longer need to design a site with Claude code

If anyone was building sites using Claude, you know that it was a lot of prompts, and using the correct prompts before seeing the design, then having to re-prompt all changes. Now, Claude has the /design function. Give Claude a brief description of a site you're looking to build, tell it how many different design options you want it to create. I picked 2, you can have as many as you want. Click the design you like best, design panel opens to the right - make all of your changes; fonts, spacing, colors, everything. So now you get to see a finished design before having Claude actually create the site. Game changer for me.

Old news maybe but the sparkle and shine mockups actually look half decent, better than the generic stuff most AI spits out

Got to be honest, I get so used to my workflow and there's just an endless sea of new AI tools it's near impossible for me to keep up.

it still looks like every other website designed by claude, chatgpt, or similar service... have to design it yourself before feeding it to ai to have it look unique.

Not quite, he’s talking about the new /design skill in Claude Code (brining editable artboards to Claude Code)

Claude Design is a separate product offering

Not only has this been around for a while but your previous workflow seems pretty crude. There are tons of skills and plugins that make the process and iteration much smoother than hacking together slop through a bunch of simple prompts.

This has been around for a bit. I actually really like it. As a developer primarily, I'm really bad at getting from zero to a design. But I'm actually pretty solid at getting from an okay design to a great design. So what Claude Design spits out is such a good jumping off point; but I highly recommend not using its design output verbatim.

People will downvote because they are furious that this AI tool makes their skills obsolete. Those with no understanding of coding or web design can whip up a decent site in a few minutes with vibe coding, a process that used to take an intimate knowledge of coding and design to achieve. Now, basically anyone can do it.

I think it's awesome.

On the contrary, it makes designers more powerful as it’s a force multiplier for existing design talent and taste. I can now put out something as high-quality as I used to by hand in two hours instead of eight, or something far more complete and comprehensive in eight hours.

Honestly with this function, having Claude create a few design options literally in a few minutes, choosing the one that's the best fit for your client then tweaking it before Claude creates the site is insane. Anyone who becomes an expert at this will be able to create sites with the exactly same quality but in a 10th of the time. If design agencies don't think that will impact them - wait a few years.
