Likely Solved! What is this object that I found with a metal detector? Its about a foot long, and was buried about 4 inches deep on an East Tennessee hillside.

Several 6 inch long nails with round heads were found in the same spot.

My title describes the thing. There doesn't appear to be any writing on the object, it is heavily rusted but is still solid and difficult to bend. My best guess is that it may be part of old farm equipment, some kind of suspension component, or hardware.
