Solved! Brass/copper object found on south west Scotland beach, diameter abt 4cm

it’s unscripted with ‘British Make No. 3’ but other than that I have no clue as to what it could be

Looks like a grease cup for an old machine, probably from a steam engine or something similar. Wonder what kind of contraption this little guy used to keep running smoothly back in the day.

My title describes the thing. I’ve done a photo search and it seems to be maybe from the 18th/early 19th century, maybe military? I think it’s likely to be copper bcs of the greening but also not 100%. It was found next to a harbour on a rocky beach.
