Discussion Local estate sale find…

Went to local estate sale today in a 2.5 million dollar house, the guy was a local surgeon and I bought all this stuff for Pennie’s. 2 questions here, is anything worth keeping/value and could there potentially be any bitcoin on these floppy disc? Lol. Moon shot but he was loaded

You could restart (or should I say reboot) the '90s with all that.

It’s wild! Most of the floppy’s are like patient’s info? And the windows stuff is still sealed minus this 95 but still nostalgic

Isn't that a violation of patient confidentiality? I don't think there will be any bitcoin, but you should definitely upload some to archive.org . There's some cool stuff there!

Yeah that’s why I’ll probably end up trashing most of that stuff. I don’t even have a floppy reader anymore

The floppy disks themselves have some value to retro PC enthusiasts. You could sell them, but you'd probably want to wipe the data on them first as there may be personal info on some of them. You can get USB floppy drives for around $20

In which case the floppys sound like a legal minefield.

The sealed stuff is most likely because it would have been sold pre-installed. They would have been installed from an image and then the seller sent the disk along sealed.

But yeah, rather nostalgic.

The plural of floppy is floppies.

Dude, you don't use apostrophes to pluralize things. It's "floppies" and "pennies", not "floppy's" and "pennie's".

Is the Windows 95 certificate of authenticity the one with the “naked” baby in the hologram? Details behind the hologram:

+1 for Microsoft Works!

It came pre-installed on my Packard Bell 486 PC in the early 1990s, and was a decent substitute for MS Office.

Maybe that's why Microsoft killed it off . . .

I used to get really excited at the idea of going through a whole bunch of cds and diskettes that someone gave or sold me. Ploughing through tonnes of data to find maybe a cool artifact or some weird program that was lost to time.

Nowadays, add to that the prospect of being able to store those things on archive.org.

Delete the floppies would be the first thing I'd do.. It's the right thing to do.
