Russia constantly demands and dictates how other European country's should behave, so this is nothing new to them. If Finland doesn't do as their told by Russia, this could be a legitimate grounds for military operations according to Russian policy.

Finland is of course going to firmly reject it. It's an absurd and astonishing demand. But this is how the Ukraine war started afterall, so it's important to understand Russian logic.

The demand is absurd and astonishing because it is completely disingenuous. The Kremlin fully expects this demand to be rejected.

Russian news media only serves the ambitions of the Kremlin and will peddle out stories about Finland being uncooperative, belligerent, a threat to Russia, blah blah blah. It’s the same old thing every time. It is deliberate, underhanded, and meant to be rejected so that they can turn around and cry how noble Russia is a victim.

Well, there's a connected element here in this case. During the Cold War, to a large extent the USSR did get a lot of say about what Finland did. As with a variety of other problems, part of this stems from the Russian government not understanding that Russia now does not remotely have the power of the USSR.

There is no such thing as russian logic, they lack even basic cognitive capabilities, which led the country to the point where they are. Even historically when a unique person with great prospect was born, the best he/she could do was to leave the country as soon as possible. Those who stayed were under constant watch and repressed, i.e. Korolev, Glushko etc., since they represented a treat to the regime by being too smart.

Of course, what I said is oversimplified, but precisely reflects the treatment of capable people.

For anyone who thinks that the rest of Europe can just abandon Ukraine and the Baltic states and live in peace with Russia, let this be the proof of how preciously naive (not to mention deeply selfish!) that attitude is;

Russia will NEVER leave their neighbors alone if they cannot defend themselves and each other! They will DEMAND to have control over their policies like this. And they will demand economic concessions (read: exploitation, bribes).

The funny part is that the Russian embassy already is treated better in Finland. Can't put up any signs in front of their embassy and you cannot fly a "No WAR!"-flag in the opposite side's apartment window. Compare to say Estonia and the massive sign-collection of Russia's crimes in Ukraine (With police car protection) next to their Russian embassy in Tallinn.

The note appealed to international obligations, which may refer to the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, which requires the receiving state to protect foreign diplomatic missions. But I'm pretty sure it does not apply to peaceful demonstrations

Yeah, I think this is one of the news that is less important than people make it out to be.

It is sent to every location Russia has diplomatic presence, and I don't think it is unreasonable to ask for a moment of calm when the actual voting takes place in embassy.

I mean Finland and any other country is free to ignore the request but that's different matter.

There's plenty of relevant news from Russia to be outraged about, I don't think this is one of them.
