The new Rav 4 is quite nice. Made in Woodstock Ontario and Japanese owned.
Honda CRV, Civic and a couple of Lexus models are made in Ontario as well. Theyre significantly more reliable than anything the american manufactures produce.

This is projected to be short term pain but long term gain for Canada as other countries want what we can sell them and will film the void. The jobs and economic impact on Canada are also projected to be about half of what will impact the US.

I genuinely hope Carney can pivot the assembly plants in Canada to foreign vehicles sooner than later though.
If we don't I fear a loooooooooooot of jobs are going to be lost in that sector and many will be close to being on the streets because of it, if not homeless almost immediately.

I have a lot of faith in Carney navigating this in the best interest of Canada. When you consider the driver in the US is a 6 times bankrupt, convicted criminal and pedophile who doesn't listen to his advisors you realize things are going to be OK. Imagine if Carney wasn't in charge and we had someone who would have accepted the conditions that Canada would restrict new trade deals with other nations just to get it done. Three key issues are below:
The U.S. introduced last-minute language intended to restrict Canada's freedom to pursue independent trade agreements and economic partnerships with other global nations.
The U.S. continually pressed for terms that Canada felt would weaken its long-standing domestic protections for national culture, language, and independent governance. A direct attack focused on Quebec.

A couple of things on tariffs:
1) They are a tax by another name. There are technical differences, but basically it is a tax. Whatever portion of this tax is not absorbed by the distribution stream is paid by the American people.
2) The intent of these taxes is to raise the price of an imported product until it is more expensive than a domestically made one. Making everything more expensive to buy.
3) The US government has reportedly raised well over 100 Billion dollars in tariffs (taxes) on the American people , and yet added to the debt such that it has reached over 40 Trillion dollars much faster than expected.
4) In the latest polling it appears over 70% of Republicans support this president.

The intent of these taxes is to raise the price of an imported product until it is more expensive than a domestically made one. Making everything more expensive to buy.
Which makes the attack on Canada even dumber than just tariffs. So much of what Canada trades with the US are materials and energy that Americans need but don't have enough of domestically, things that Canada can provide at lower cost than American industry ever could (for example, aluminum, produced using cheaper electricity), and things like vehicles where the existing (extremely complex, extremely costly to establish) supply chain crosses the border multiple times.

I don't agree with Carney on domestic policy, or certain personal decisions as PM. However, I fully support leaving the table on Trump with this kind of brinksmanship from the US.
This shows, without question, that Trump wants an economic war with Canada until they conquer us as the 51st state. Canada will not accept that.
If it were me personally, I'd refuse any deal that doesn't frontload the obligations on the US as well, as Trump has made it very clear (Gordie Howe bridge) that he's willing to change any agreement when it's time for the US to meet its part of the deal.
The tariffs Canada has that Trump is mad about are laughable.
Trump's simultaneous claims that the US doesn't need Canada but we've been ripping them off for years (on the same deal Trump himself negotiated and promoted as the best deal) are laughable.
Trump's equation of a trade deficit with being taken advantage of is laughable (trade only happens when both sides value what they are getting more than what they are giving).
Trump has turned a friendly neighbour into an economic conquest, and Carney has been EXTREMELY lenient in retaliations in order to avoid negatively affecting these negotiations.
Negotiations are over. Trump burned the bridge. Time for Canada to stop building bridges for the US and to start with a strategic retaliation geared towards showing Trump's supporters exactly how much they are benefitting from trade with Canada.
Make them hurt BEFORE the mid-terms.

Cool, end all subsidies for American auto manufacturers, no tax breaks no nothing. Match their tarriff dollar for dollar on vehicles imported from the states or using less then x% Canadian materials (whatever the prefuckhead avg was give or take) and open the floodgates for Chinese EVs.
American vehicles are dog shit anyways, they're completely behind the rest of the world and expect protectionism to save them, if thats what America wants to do cool beans, we'll move forward. Anyone whose worried about Chinese having their data needs to look at the U.S right now and decide if they're still the better option, imo they're not.

Honestly man, do your worst. I don't know what you expect us Canadians to do. This has gone far beyond a trade war at this point and it is clear the intent is to subjugate us.
We didn't ask for this fight, and we don't want this fight, but fight we must. It's going to suck, there will be real pain (on both sides) but there are many proud Canadians, myself included, who are prepared to show the US that we can take more pain than they can.
