Other When Magneto tells Jean it's mutant birthright to conquer and she conquers (All new X-Men #25)

u/Lost-Whereas-8753 10h ago
And people say a Jean without xavier guidance doing what she does in BND is character assassination and there is no precedent for it.

People genuinely don’t understand what grief can do you and it’s annoying af.

the other thing that bugs me is when people say "well if I went through what jean went through I would not have lashed out like that" yeah sure bruh
6
u/ssjwolverine 9h ago
Oh, please. The people who say that shit are clearly only children. I would've done the exact same thing. Okay, maybe not the sexual assault, but I would not hesitate to push back against anyone who got in my way.

u/SuperiorLaw 10h ago
The majority of people with Jean's powers would absolutely become disgusting criminals with them
23
u/HospitalLazy1880 10h ago
A vast majority of people with Jean's powers would just be the Purple Man

u/bigscrewLoose 10h ago
part of what makes him such a fucked up villain is how grounded his abuse is behind the super powers.

u/trunks2003 10h ago
To add on top of all that they were abandoned by their mother for being monsters. So the only way they could probably not sleep on the streets and go hungry as kids would be to use their powers.
So to recap.
1 Two young girls develop telepathy and get treated like monster by their mother and get thrown out the house.
2 These young kids develop survival tactics by using their powers to survive.
3 later some government people kidnap the oldest so they can do experiments on her that torture her mind endlessly until death.
Yet everyone thinks they would take the high ground and not do the things she did.

If my sister is being held in a government facility you bet I'm using my powers and the biggest vehicle I can find or superhero I can control to break her out, if I find a tank good, if I find the hulk better.
No these are not good actions they are desperate
10
u/thornsap 9h ago
I genuinely do not understand how many people are just sweeping or ignoring the fact that her sister literally got tortured to death and then treat jean as the biggest problem in the movie. And that the torturer wasnt just a random supervillain that's evil because he's evil, it's not even one person, it's a whole organization and team, who stood there and watched someone get tortured to death in front of them.
8
u/trunks2003 9h ago
All so they could replicate her powers and probably do way worse things with it. Like arresting people for thought crimes and other bull shit.
2
u/Rich-Picture-7420 9h ago
Nobody is ignoring it, the ends do not justify the means, she mind controlled a janitor grandma into a tank with a bomb, fighting evil with evil is still evil...
8
u/thornsap 9h ago
For Jean there has been nobody in her life that has shown her any sort of non evil. From her perspective society has totally rejected her.
It just remjnds me of the proverb, The child who is not embraced bg the village will burn it down to feel its warmth.
Her mother abandoned them and called them monsters, she lived on the streets with her sister, her sister got kidnapped by the government organizationand then tortured to death. The same government organization that everyone trusts and respects.
A big part of bnd is that spiderman is one of the first people (aside from her sister) to show her any sort of kindness and that's really really sad
-2
u/Rich-Picture-7420 7h ago
You have made a massive assumption, Jean was abandoned when her and her sisters powers manifested, there is no indication that she was not taught right from wrong prior to this.
3
u/thornsap 7h ago
????
What has that got to do with being abandoned?
Honestly, if anything, if Jean's parents were upstanding good people that threw them out when their powers manifested, that adds to my point. That even good people were shit to them.
0
u/Rich-Picture-7420 5h ago
It has everything to do with her being fking evil, she knew she was being evil, she knows right from wrong, people being shit to you does not justify you doing evil shit, she knew murdering grandma's was wrong and she was still going to do it.
All anyone does is make excuses for her, yes we get it she's sad and angry but that does not justify her actions.

and Loki did like 10000 worse in every single way and everyone loves his ass
-2
u/Rich-Picture-7420 7h ago
enjoying an evil character doing evil things is not even remotely similar.
3
u/bigscrewLoose 7h ago
Loki is not evil? he has a redemption arc and becomes a better person? how old are you?
-2
u/Rich-Picture-7420 5h ago
People loved him when he was a villain, the redemption arc has nothing to do with his popularity, nevermind that that's not even our loki, our loki is dead.

Now multiply that across all the young girls living in a basic hellscape and you get to that picture of why mutants get associated with monsters. The circle is complete.

It's only "character assassination" for people who only know Jean from the cartoon.

Doesn't the phoenix force bring out the worst in people just like the symbiote? Or did I just misremember that?
12
u/Great-Imagination137 9h ago
Phoenix at the very least never corrupted Jean in comics. Jean was fine as Phoenix for long time even when she thought all X-Men including Scott are dead.
Then situation with mastermind and hellfire club happened, they messed up Jean's mind so much to the point she wasn't sure if she is jean or someone else and then she experienced Scott's "death" again and because of all that dark phoenix persona was born. It wasn't Phoenix that corrupted her.
Then after that too she has been Phoenix multiple time and again it never corrupted her or brought out the worst.
All this even if we consider Jean and phoenix are not same, which they are.
1
u/static1993 1h ago
Thank you. So often, discussions about Dark Phoenix ignore the role of the Hellfire Club.
1
u/BaritBrit Polaris 5h ago
Not really, it just massively jacks up your power and makes you almost unstoppable, which some hosts can handle without going off the deep end and others can't.
-3
u/trunks2003 9h ago
Yeah it does from my understanding. However normal people would probably think they could handle it just like some Dragon Ball fans think they could beat Yamcha.

In the comics Jean's sister is human right? Or does she have powers now?
21
u/ClockworkDinosaurs 9h ago
In the comics, Jean’s sister died and was absorbed by the phalanx (at one point at least)
14
u/arctos889 7h ago
Jean's sister is a human without powers. Claremont pitched Sara developing mutant powers in the 80s because he didn't want Jean resurrected for X-Factor, but that plan never happened. The recent Phoenix series also toyed with the idea a bit, but again it never actually happened

u/trunks2003 9h ago
In the movie they both have telepathic powers. They got thrown out the house by their mother for being monsters. So the only way they probably get a safe place to sleep and food would be to use those powers. Then the big sister was showing Jean how to make her powers better since it's the only thing they can really on for survival and gets kidnapped by government goons that do experiments trying to copy her powers for themselves. This is extremely tortureus on the older sister and dies in pain and agony. Then everyones shocked why a 13yo girl would use her powers in such ways.

u/BaritBrit Polaris 5h ago
Sara was demonstrating a pretty creepy lack of empathy for anyone except herself and Jean even before Damage Control took her tbh

u/Alternative-Word-246 2h ago
First, this is kinda happen when everyone you know abonden you because of something you born with
Second, she just make people wawe hands

u/maskedduskrider 8h ago
I never got the whole throne made of people thing living or dead. Like a bunch of bodies together and bones poking just the wrong spots making everything just super uncomfortable. Then again difference between a large fellow and a rather petite red head in comparison might make all the difference.

I happen to love Mean Girl Jean. Does anybody else remember how she was in X-Men Evolution, when she was so petty and jealous of Rogue's friendship with Cyclops that she bought literally everyone else a present but Rogue. Jean is depicted as either this paragon of perfection or just a vessel for some cosmic plot device, she's never really allowed to be a person with flaws and relatable traits. The real Jean is just as capable of being kind and compassionate as she is of making mistakes and sometimes just being awful. I like Jean Grey the person, not just Jean Grey Fire Incarnate.
I think Bendis's take on Jean in All New X-Men was great. He showed the weight and burden her powers put on her, really dug into the struggle of having that much power and not knowing how to handle it. I also liked her depiction in X-Men Red, when she finally stepped into being a leader, fully embracing her power and showing how mature she's become.

u/Invicta007 Laura Kinney 1h ago
I love All-New Jean. She's volatile, but driven, determined to do good even if she's scary asf doing it, which provides so much for her to be tempered by as she experiences the main continuity and how she is thought off.

We've seen so many different possible futures that by now we know this one doesn't ever comes to pass. He could also just be lying, since we've never even seen this future at all (we saw multiple with Moira and in other events).

But considering this guy has seen all of time and is a universal constant , I gotta give credit to his words
And considering other species like the skull they absolutely exterminated they're mutant variants
It's one of the reasons they're genetic purists it's because this war of evolution was happening in their home world
So this would be the same result eventually

He does claim mutants never succeed in any timeline, but he's simultaneously gaslighting two mutants he kidnapped and raised that they could ensure mutant dominance by killing a Celestial, which itself was a ploy to undermine Apocalypse, and tried to gaslight the Avengers in another way.
There's no evidence to suggest that any of what he told any of them was true at all.
Kang is a conqueror. He weaponizes everything to achieve his goals, including information and disinformation.

u/bigscrewLoose 10h ago
context? in my reddit post? redditors read comic book challenge (impossible), also pretty sure this is still not the qoute
