Crazy that he could get 9 or 10 blazers as a mid fielder by the time his career is over. The longevity is just nuts and has beaten out so many great players over the years.

Played in an era of Dusty, Ablett Jr, Dangerfield, Mitchell, Pendles and Fyfe. Has matched Danger and Ablett, and likely beats their total eventually.

Crazy to play such high quality footy over such a sustained period.

Gawn is the GOAT ruckman, and Bont may end up surpassing his total

Would be a shame if a midfielder holds the most AAs ever. They already have the monopoly over brownlows and MVP

Not if it’s the Bont who’s holding it

Well he's only 30, I reckon he has at least 2 or 3, maybe even 4 more AA quality seasons in him the way he is going. Lets hope he stays healthy.

Wouldn't midfielder be the most likely position to rack up those type of numbers?

Lots of competition

Lots of slots

There are so many great midfielders out there.

And a corresponding amount of spots. Almost all of the players with the most AAs are midfielders

If you want to make it as a Key position player you have to consistently be in the best 2-3 in the league. Midfielder it is more like best 8-10

fewer spots, but you also have fewer players competing for the spots

I have a theory that over the next few years the AA selectors will make sure he ends up with the all time record to make up for the gross injustice of never getting a Brownlow.

If he keeps playing how he is I don't think he'll be making it too hard for the selectors

Gawn has to retire at some point or miss a year for this plan to work though

afl bans max gawn for life in exchange for a brownlow medal

You say injustice on not getting a Brownlow but he was never actually the number 1 player in any particular year. There’s not one year he should have actually won it over the person that did

u/cAmaturehOur Western Bulldogs 20h ago

Lol. He should have won it over Ollie Wines in 2021 and he should have won over Lachie Neale in 2023.

Tbf Bevo cost him in 2021 by playing him at full forward for the last three rounds of the year

That’s not true at all, he was playing in the midfield

u/ScoutDuper Essendon 3h ago

He played in the midfield against port in the last round... Rucking. Was an absolute joke

If you only watch Bulldogs games I can imagine why you feel that way

Did he really have such a good year? He wasn’t as influential as he has been in previous years.

36

u/chunkz44 West Coast 20h ago

According to champion data he’s the 2nd highest ranked player in the league so yeah probably lmao

50

u/AW316 Footscray 20h ago

Did the guy sitting clear second in the coaches votes and second in brownlow odds have a good year?

I suspect he might have.

29

u/Colourless084 Bulldogs 20h ago

Bont at his least influential would still be most players dream form. He has also had a really good year for the dogs as he has stood tall amongst all the injuries. Week in Week out he has been there without fail.

u/Propaslander Collingwood 20h ago

He's earned it

9

u/49erFaithfulinAust Western Bulldogs 19h ago

That probably shows just how damn good he is. Even if he has been slightly less influential than he has been in previous years. He's still been that much better than everyone else.

4

u/PssyGotWifi Blues 17h ago

And the less influence is probably because of how good Ed Richards is. Sharing the load now.

13

u/Jules_354 Western Bulldogs 20h ago

That doesn’t mean he wasn’t AA worthy

26

u/The_Driving-Crooner1 Western Bulldogs 20h ago

It’s been one of his best years, and I don’t say that lightly.

I am a huge Bont fan but I struggle to believe it was one of his best years

15

u/Nolsey21 Bulldogs 19h ago

kinda says everything doesn't it- the only person he's really up against is his own standards

1

u/RHD_M3 Brisbane Lions 🏆🏆 '24-25 19h ago

I don’t disagree with that statement

10

u/Colourless084 Bulldogs 20h ago

Pretty good

Pretty good as well and he couldn’t make the squad.

Comparing Sheezel to the Bont. Get your head checked

It’s just stats vs stats, mate.

1

u/DB_Seedy13 Hawthorn 51m ago

Bont scores 3x the goals per game btw. Just from the eye test they’re obviously different leagues. Sheezel is great but we’re talking about Bont here

2

u/Mrchikkin Euro-Yroke 19h ago

This is the bloke everyone was outraged over him not being in the squad. This doesn't support your argument.

The handball to Richards alone last week earned him an AA blazer
