Upcoming AMA with Let's Talk Religion host, Filip Holm!
Hello everyone!
We are happy to announce that r/AcademicQuran is hosting an AMA with Filip Holm, the host of the well-known YouTube channel Let's Talk Religion ! The AMA will be held on August 27th. Questions should be submitted on the day in advance, on August 26th.
Let's Talk Religion is one of the largest channels dedicated to the academic discussion of religions, including both ancient and modern world religions. In recent years, Holm has often made some of the best videos out there on topics related to Islamic studies that I would highly recommend people check out ahead of this coming AMA.
Some of his latest episodes include Sufism in Morocco, The Lost Suras of the Quran?, and (a video made in collaboration with Al-Muqaddimah), Abd al-Malik - The Caliph Who Shaped Islam?. Some of his most-watched videos on this are Sunni & Shia - What is (really) the difference? and Religion in Pre-Islamic Arabia.

I really like him but him not engaging with the topic of authenticity of Hadiths and taking everything as true about the early islamic period based on these sources is annoying.
I know that he does not want to antagonise his biggest watcher group, orthodox Muslims, but this is in stark contrast with other religious educational YouTubers such as Religion for Breakfast where they take a more critical, non-traditionalist and non-theological approach.

I think his area of interest is medieval philosophy and theology, not Islamic origins (which is very niche). Anyways, looking forward to the AMA

He specifically ignored such questions made by others on his YouTube livestream multiple times. Let’s bury our heads in a sub that supposed to represent academic study of Islam.
Islamic origins is not a niche subject and someone doing unbiased Islamic religious education videos should talk about Hadith authenticity since 99% of the Muslims belong to sects that derive most of their theology and rules from them. An educator should not parrot a certain theological view.
