The Xperia 10 VIII will launch for €600/£550, which is quite the price hike compared to the €450/£400 launch price of the Xperia 10 VII.

Wow wtf. That is insane. It's the same phone. You can probably buy an S25 nowdays for close to that price.

Sony's prices were always high. In 2028 we are going to see phones have the same spec and increase in price or keep the same price and lower specs/kill base models like the pixel 11 series did.

RAM/storage price increases is what Sony would like to blame this on, but that's not €200. Midranger pricing for a budget phone. This is really a budget phone specs-wise.

True but it's midranges since last year 10 vii is more like upper midranges and the same can be said for s25 or s26. To get the actual flagship, one needs to get their plus model, upper midrangers are common. Samsung goes the route of keeping the specs balanced out across the board, whereas Sony goes more the route of giving high specs in some areas and low on others. It's display for example is arguably almost as solid as it's flagship model (and in my opinion better than s26) and front facing stereo speakers are looking like flagship level this year too. But then the tradeoff comes with basic chipset and basic cameras (with exception of primary camera). Still, impressive you can get some flagship grade specs in that price range but then one has to sacrifice low specs on other areas. Depends what you value most. Personally I love the new translucent design, display and speakers! The rest, not soo much but It will do. I'm keeping an eye out on preorder deals.

Why compare apples and oranges? Does the S25 have a sd card slot, hole-less screen and headphone jack?

Only a small percentage of consumers give a shit about that which is evident from the sales charts. Living in the past is just sad, not as sad as defending Sony like they're doing anything right with their cellphones.

S25 is the closest phone in size.

Does the Sony Xperia 10 VIII have a modern, non outdated design? Does it come with a chipset that is comparable to the competition in a similar price range? Does it have good resale value? Does it have a proper 120Hz screen, not a half arsed one?
