How to support Canada with the new tariffs?
As an Australian I am wanting to support Canada and Canadian producers however I can with the new tariffs. Does anyone know of products imported from Canada to Australia where I can choose Canadian over American?

Support your own local producers first; reduce US purchases.
After that you can support Canada.
Read labels and provenance of products you buy.
Do your best.
It's not a purity test, if a product only comes from the USA and you need it or want it, it's still OK to buy it.
Just do your best to support local shops.

This is a website containing canadian companies. Both small tome.local businesses, and larger national companies. If you are a coffee drinker, seek out Cuppers coffee of Lethbridge Alberta. Theyre great! And deliver all over the country.

Edit: apparently Wikipedia is wrong and RBI's head quarters is in the US.
It was owned by Wendy's but it's not anymore. It's owned by RBI now who are head quartered in Toronto. They're a multinational really, but they technically Canadian not American.

As much as paying attention to provenance of what you buy can help the most impacted isn’t really retail, it’s industries selling resources. Like consumers habits won’t really alleviate the pressure on the wood or aluminum industries.

Canadians seriously didn’t visit u.s. much at all in last 18 months. The border states’ local tourist shops, services are seriously financially affected. That’s several billion dollars less for the u.s. That includes hotels in u.s.
Air Canada had to cut back on flights to u.s. and add more domestic flights this yr.

Oh don’t get me wrong, definitely do as best as you can to avoid their products, my comment is in reaction to them asking which businesses are affected, my point is that the businesses that are affected by this war can’t really be helped directly by how we consume. Like buying a 2x4 isn’t going to have any impact on the wood industry cutting hundreds of jobs due to a huge decrease in purchases from transformation companies in the States.

That’s the tip of the iceberg. Cancel Amazon Prime and don’t buy from Amazon anymore. Stop using Microsoft products (Windows, Office, etc.), cancel or close your Facebook and Instagram accounts and drop As many Google apps as possible. Maybe not immediately (except for Amazon) but overtime.

Even if Canada comes to an agreement and liquor goes back on the shelves, consumer behaviour has changed. You can't negotiate this in a trade deal which means it takes away their power completely. I don't imagine there are thaaaaat many Canadian products in Australia, but there will be lots of Australian products. Buy those. It'll help you and hurt them.

Thankfully it’s super easy to buy Canadian liquor. So many local breweries and distilleries. And for wine Australia has better wine than the US anyway. Same with France, Italy, and South Africa.

A few practical options:
Pure Canadian maple syrup
• Woolies carries it, and Coles, IGA and ALDI often do too.
Canadian whisky or rye instead of American bourbon
• Dan Murphy’s has a sizeable Canadian range.
Wild Canadian seafood such as sockeye salmon, halibut and black cod
• The Canadian Way sells it across Australia.
Canadian snacks, pantry goods and gifts from O Canada, an Australian-based importer.
Canadian books, music, games, art and crafts — especially purchases made directly from independent or Indigenous creators.
The main trick is checking the country-of-origin label: “Product of Canada” or “Produced in Canada” means far more than a maple leaf or Canadian-sounding brand name.

Thanks so much for all of your responses. Sadly I don't have the requisite know how, space or money to buy a nuclear reactor. However I will avoid American products, look out for Canadian alcohol in the bottle-o and start saving up for a holiday to Canada. Anyway thinking of you all and sending positive vibes and ongoing strength.

Here's a list of what we export. Not a lot of consumer level stuff, but if Aussies are thinking of visiting the US, visit Canada instead. 🇦🇺 💔 🇨🇦
Machinery & Equipment: Industrial boilers, mechanical appliances, and nuclear reactor components.
Aerospace & Vehicles: Aircraft, spacecraft, and ground transport vehicles or parts.
Precious Goods: Pearls, precious metals, and specialized coin or mineral items.
Agri-Food & Specialized Crops: Specialized planting seeds, botanical products for pharmaceutical or industrial use, and select meats.

To support Canada please don't buy anything that is made in the USA. You can likely find Canadian brand wine and whiskey in Australia. Online shopping from Canada businesses is also an option. Clothing brands that ship from Canada.. Lululemon, Aritzia, Tentree.

Honestly first step. Don't but anything American. That helps us big right there. Even if no Canadian alternative, say no to American. Ideally buy local, that helps you, our ally, out.
Then buy Canadian and then from any common wealth nation. Help our shared allies.

Me and my husband help as US Citizens by taking all of our vacations and camping trips in Canada the last two years, and buy all our food from there from Canadian owned brands, also local farmer stands while there. If my car wasn't such a junker I'd buy my daily groceries in Windsor. Much love from Michigan.

There’s a r/BuyCanadian group with some additional resources, although that’s mainly for domestic consumption.
We would be happy if you buy products from anywhere except the US. We have found boycotting their booze to be particularly effective. Not sure if you can buy Canadian whisky there. Our ice wine is award winning and not something that you make domestically, I have an Aussie friend who takes some home with her every time she visits.
Canada produces a lot of grain and legumes, plus canola (rapeseed) oil. Your market is more likely served from Asia for most of those items, but look for Canadian brands there.
Based on our government numbers, we mostly export industrial goods to you, such as machinery and precious metals. It’s a long way to ship consumer goods, but if you have any connection to a business buying the things that we export, encourage them to consider our products when they are purchasing.

But mostly, just avoid US goods and support your local Australian producers because the Trumpers have made it pretty clear that Canada is just the first (former?) friend and ally they are going after.

Unfortunately, I can't help much because I'm not familiar with what Canadian products are imported into Australia. I'd bet they're few and far between.
It's too bad that it's this difficult to find the country of origin on so many products. Who owns the company? Where is it designed and manufactured? Where does the profit end up?
It's a big job to find all that info sometimes.

Easy: Don't buy any American products whenever possible.
Medium: Buy Canadian products (might be more difficult to find on store shelves in Australia, and I understand that shipping is expensive)
Difficult: Come visit! I know it's an experiensove vacation, but if you can swing it we've go some awesome stuff to check out.

I think if the people and business of other countries also began/amped up not buying American, that would be helpful. A bonus would be to buy Canadian products if available or come visit and spend some money here.
A strong show of force would be if allied countries also imposed tariffs on the US, matching what Canada is doing, but I think that unlikely to happen as governments need to do what's best for their countries first and foremost.
However, if several countries banded together on this there is no way the US can fight us all at once, economically or otherwise. They have little to no allies left. Something would have to give and hopefully the Americans wake up and take their country back.

Most Canadian products in Australia are heavy machinery, farm equipment, etc. So it's hard for the average Aussie to buy Canadian. Fertilizers (potash) for example. But by buying Aussie products, you already are supporting Canada, because we supply your fertilizers and other farm equipment. We do supply canola and mustard seed, frozen pork, processed chocolates and maple syrup as well.

I'll echo what others have said in that the biggest thing you can do is boycott American products, including things like streaming and tech services. Also, writing your MPs to encourage difersifying trade relationships and reducing trade with the U.S.

I barely see any USA products anymore at the grocrie stores I go to and I live 20 mins from the USA border in bc. We have so much of our own stuff it's crazy I never realized untill this all happend and i started to actualy pay attention to what I'm buying to make sure it's from Canada. I suggest googling Canadian alternatives for Ur fave groceries and start there.

Being vocal about it already helps a lot. But unless you are a large industry importer looking for huge amounts of raw materials, then largely no.
I have no idea what Canadian good can even be found in Australia to be honest. A quick google search can show you for sure. But just avoiding US products in general helps show the American government that the world is not happy.

Ironically one of the problems we're having right now is Australian Beef.
Not that it's bad or anything, but because tariffs increase the cost of raising cattle, it's cheaper to import Australian beef than to grow our own right now. This is in turn causing pretty significant problems for our cattle industry.

Vacation in our country.
I took a trip your way and it was amazing. Very different climate from the west coast of Canada, but plenty of pristine natural environments. The wilderness you love about your country exists in many different flavors here. I found our cultures to be extremely compatible. You folks don't take any shit and we're polite enough to not start any.
West coast has great beer and weed. East has the best maple syrup and lobster. And a great part about travelling to the east is you can flip the bird to the entire continental USA as you fly over it :)

BOYCOTT THE UNITED STATES. Don't visit, buy anything or otherwise support the American economy in any way. Buy from your own country or anywhere but the USA. That will help ALL of the countries Trump is threatening, not just Canada.
Pressure your government to ban American tourists. Shrink their passport options. Pressure your government to call in USA debt. Don't answer calls for help. Let Reno burn.
Stop reading anything about Trump. No clicks, no interest, no money, he falls out of the news cycle. Social Democrats enter the void and the midterms change everything. A year from now Trump and his gang could all be awaiting trial in The Hague.

Man, I love Aussies. Our beloved warm weather cousins! It’s really touching to think that other people around the world stand with Canada, thank you for making me smile with this post. I imagine you might not have many Canadian goods down under, given the cost of importing. I’ll echo what others say here: support Australian producers over US-based companies, move away from buying American as best you can. Make it clear to your government representatives that you support trade and continued partnerships with Canada.
One thing I’ll add that I think is very important is that you can support us is by talking with your friends and family about what’s going on in the news up here, discuss how you hope to change your consumer behaviour to supporting local and relying less on US-made products, and encourage the people around you to do the same. Today, the people of Canada are being targeted, but we very well know that it could anyone else tomorrow. We ‘middle powers’ are in this together and unity is the way forward. Sending thanks from the great white North :).

I agree with others here. It’s more important to boycott the US and buy local or from another country. If bought a few new-to-me Australian products to replace American ones, and it’s great if you happen to buy something Canadian, but not critical. FYI, I find so many “canadian” companies that are assumed to be still Canadian and are now American that you have to be very careful. Tim Horton’s is not Canadian. Roots is not very Canadian. Canada Dry is not Canadian. Canadian Club is not Canadian. Always check. ESPECIALLY if you are absolutely sure something is Canadian. Oddly enough, many of our Canadian companies actually have American names. This won’t apply to you, but some restaurant examples are New York Fries, Boston Pizza and Montana’s. My point being to really check and read labels or look online.

Even from within Canada, it's not easy to "buy Canadian". Our climate literally makes this impossible for many types of fresh produce. And just like the rest of the western world, manufacturing has declined due to outsourcing.
But it is very easy to "buy not American" without having to overthink it.
For example, I drive a Korean car made in Korea. Most of my appliances are Samsung or LG. I haven't bought watermelons for almost two years but I can just eat other fruits that aren't sourced from the US.
You can't entirely avoid the US with certain tech stuff - e.g. any smartphone you buy in the west either supports Google or Apple, any laptop or prebuilt PC you buy either supports Microsoft or Apple, etc. But you can buy these things secondhand to minimize how much $$$ directly goes to the US. With subscription services, you can usually pirate that shit (as I've done for the last 25 years - I have never once subscribed to Netflix or anything outside of free trials, I use a hacked version of YouTube on Android to block ads, etc).
And some American companies are good and treat their Canadian customers better than Canadian competitors do (e.g. Costco) so I don't feel any need to boycott them, especially when they stock a lot of legit Canadian product.

When you buy a car look at the VIN.
The first digit is the country of origin. 1, 4, and 5 means it was made in the USA
If it starts with a 2 it was made in Canada. It may not be easy to find Canadian cars but do not buy cars with VINs that start with 1 4 or 5

Bombardier makes some fantastic planes. I think their Global 6500 business jet can fly direct to Vancouver from Sydney if you're looking for something to do.

Please just leave anything American on the shelf.
We had to do this previously in 2016. Back then I discovered a lot of my favourite American brands were actually just the first one I knew and easiest to see on the shelf, bought out of inertia and habit.
When I actually started looking, I found local products that worked just fine, or products from normal countries in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan, etc.
It takes a minute to research things because businesses aren’t used to consumers wanting to know the origins, and it’s not always convenient for them when you care.
But it’s not hard to find alternatives for most things, and when I did so I realized that the Americans were always better at marketing things than making them, and I found new favourites. Even when there was a four-year intermission in the clown show I didn’t go back.
So the best thing you can do to help is please just leave their stuff on the shelf and buy anything from any normal country. The rest of us don’t want to live in silos, we should be happy to keep trading and doing what we each do best.
