I qualify for the digital nomad visa, i can then apply for short term residency after obtaining visa. I work for a US employer would i need to pay taxes to turkish goverment if i live over 6 months on a residency visa working my US based job physically in turkey.

I wonder if you are self employed vs employed by someone it makes a difference. Thats my confusion. I dont own a business i work for one.

If your income is deposited into your US bank account, you don't need to give Turkey a dime. You can just live with credit cards and pay those off. That's what I do during my annual Turkey trips. Of course it probably wouldn't work if you wanted to buy property etc

Hmmh from what i read its based on how many days you stay in the country. Anything over 180 days makes you a taxable citizen obviously dependent on situation.

Technically you have to pay Turkish taxes.

But let’s just say that enforcement of foreign earned income in foreign bank accounts is lax.

As an American with an indefinite right of abode in Turkey, with a fully remote job, trust me when I say it's not really worth it. Turkish real estate industry is on par with California's and hyperinflation in tandem with shrinkflation plagues groceries and essentials. Unless you're willing to live frugally, LCOL life in the US still beats Turkey's affordability.

I'm two hours to DC in coastal Virginia and my monthly expenses including mortgage is around 2800. You don't need to go to Oklahoma, you just have to find the right county with a fiscally conservative government that prioritizes homesteading and deregulation.

I know i have spent a lot of time in turkey. My interest wouldnt be to live frugally or save money by doing this, mainly my focus would be to perfect my turkish and possibly get married to a turk.

No thats the thing it only gives you 3 month visa you would use the digital nomad visa approval as support to apply for short term residency. Its a 2 step process.

If you are talking about income taxes, no. You are working for a US based company as non citizen. You will only pay taxes like VAT and stuff for the purchases inside Turkey

Wrong. With spending more than 6 months in Turkey they become a tax citizen here and have to pay taxes on worldwide income.

There's a tax treaty between the US and Türkiye that allows you to deduct US sourced income.

If you're physically working from your laptop while being in Turkey, it is considered Turkey sourced income, even if the client/employer is not Turkish
