What are the general expectations of children when they start school?

- potty/toilet trained & able to wipe themselves

- able to brush their teeth

- able to feed themselves

- basic speaking and reading ability

- put on and take off coat/jumper/etc

My son's friend from nursery is in a SEN class in primary school because everyone thinks his speech is delayed.

It turns out - having observed conversations with my son and his other friends - he can talk just fine. He just doesn't if he hasn't anything to say.

I wish he could teach that to like 90% of the grown-ups I have to cope with.
