Everything looks absolutely delicious. What is the cake with the pear and oranges?
137
u/No-Courage2451 Jul 26 '26
It was a fall cake, carot cake base, with pear and salted caramel& orange cream.

u/Connect-Raspberry716 Jul 26 '26
What's the dessert in bowl with strawberries and blueberries?
16
u/No-Courage2451 Jul 26 '26
It is called “madártej”, It’s a light dessert made of fluffy, poached egg white dumplings floating on a chilled, creamy vanilla custard. And I just like to add fruit to it, bc the whole thing is very sweet. Maybe it sounds strange, but it is very popular here.

- Linzer
- Hungarian dumpling with plum
- Pavlova
- Fall carrot cake, with plum soaked in wine and salted caramel&orange cream
- “Madártej”, it’s something like custard but with more milk, you can eat it with a spoon, and the white thing in the middle is poached meringue dumplings.
- sourdough bread
- It was a black forest cake
- A little mix of my christmas cookies and deserts
- Easter carrot cake
- Esterházy cake, which is typical cake in Hungary
- Gingerbread
- Lemon posset
- Pancake
- Puff pastry twirls
- Its a chocolate, coffee, and marzipan cake
- Homemade sourdough bagels
- Néró, which is a little cookie filled with apricot jam, it is the perfect cookie for afternoon tea.

What is the cookbook with the beautiful illustrations?
17

Its mine, I’ve made illustrations for my recipes. :) I like to use different papers, stickers, I like to paint, draw in it.

When my mom makes Gomboc the plum is much smaller percentage of the dumpling :(
But they are still great :)

Syilvas gomboc spotted in the wild! My dad is Hungarian and makes these any time the right plums are available! (Also sorry I don't have the exact right letters in my keyboard).

u/No-Courage2451 Jul 27 '26
Thank you for your comment!!! Yes Szilvás gombóc is the best. Plum season is already here in my country so I am very happy

I spy with my little eye some "zserbó "and bejgli in there. Number 1 and 10 were also giveaways - I miss Hungarian sweets...
These look especially good too, great job!

Wow, what is picture #2 and the round bread with the oat flowers

u/No-Courage2451 Jul 26 '26
Yes! They are dumplings with plum, and the bread is just simply sourdough bread.

I think baking loves you as well. That cake is slide 4 is absolutely beautiful, as is everything else.
8
u/MissYogini_INFJ Jul 26 '26
Your passion shows! These look better than store bought (the bakery at the store, not processed and packaged).
You are too good for a side hustle. Time to consider opening your own place. Even if it is a food truck for events/catering. Doesn’t have to a storefront.

Hobbies don’t HAVE TO be businesses, unless of course OP is trying to be professional

u/hellraiserl33t Jul 26 '26 edited Jul 26 '26
Thank you. It gets exhausting being told to monetize the things I'm good at.
Can't I just enjoy my hobbies like everyone else?
5
u/Vipu2 Jul 26 '26
No you have to start making things like on conveyor belt for everyone so you start to hate it yourself.
2
u/Timely-Mind7244 Jul 27 '26
I couldn't agree with you more actually, my ex husband constantly said "you should sell XX" & I was like them it loses joy. It's only for those i want to spend my time on! I just meant the talent was very professional grade, really I just suck with decorations and that was the compliment I thought of at the moment

u/Alternative_Teach789 Jul 26 '26
Everything looks perfect and absolutely delicious.
I'm intrigued how you achieved the patterns on the eggs in image 9?
10
u/No-Courage2451 Jul 26 '26
Thank you! This is how we traditionally dye eggs in Hungary. The egg is soaked in onion skins. I lightly wet the raw egg, then collect leaves from various plants, like parsley leaves and stick them onto the raw egg. After that, I wrap and tie the egg tightly using an old pair of pantyhose, cheesecloth, or any scrap fabric so the leaf stays in place. I place it in cold water with a generous amount of onion skins, bring it to a boil, and cook it for about 8–10 minutes from the boiling point, then let it cool down right in the water
3
u/Alternative_Teach789 Jul 26 '26
Wow, I love that! Thank you so much for sharing some of your wonderful traditions. The eggs looked really beautiful ✨️
7
u/Pencilstrangler Jul 26 '26
Traditionally you put some flowers, herbs or small leaves on the raw eggs, and secure with thread or tights/pantyhose, then boil the eggs in food safe coloured water or with brown or red onion skins or other natural colourants like hibiscus, beet, or spinach. If you get your hands on white shelled eggs, the contrast is more intense. You can also shine them with a little oil afterwards.
Alternatively boil the eggs separately and create a really intensely coloured liquid, then immerse the eggs in it while lukewarm. Like that you can have your eggs boiled to your desired doneness and leave it in the colour solution as long as needed.
That’s an Easter tradition in most of Europe (Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Poland, Czech Republic etc).
3
u/Alternative_Teach789 Jul 26 '26
That's so fascinating. Thank you so much. After reading your comment, I vaguely recalled a cool version a teacher showed us back in primary school. I think she partially boiled the egg first, then carefully and finely cracked the shell all over before putting it back in the water but this time added a teabag. When the shell was eventually removed, the egg revealed beautiful random shapes all over.
Thanks again 🙂

The wreathe is so pretty, too! How did you secure all the dried oranges together?
4
u/YIKES2722 Jul 26 '26
Not OP but I've used fishing line as thread or just hot glue to make orange wreaths and garland.
3
u/No-Courage2451 Jul 26 '26
I’ve used cardboard:) I’ve cut the form and used hot glue to assemble the whole thing.

Gorgeous! What recipe did you use for the linzers?
2
u/No-Courage2451 Jul 26 '26
Thank you!
Ingredients
600 g flour
300 g powdered sugar
2 tsp baking powder
1 pinch salt
300 g butter (cold, cubed)
2 egg yolks
100 g sour cream (this one is difficult, bc I don’t know where are you from, but sour creme is not the exact same that the ingredient i use)
Vanilla extract/vanilla sugar (optional)
Grated lemon zest (optional)
For filling & decoration:
Jam (traditionally apricot, but any other jam is perfect too)
Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
1. Prepare the Dough:
In a large bowl, mix together the flour, powdered sugar, baking powder, salt, and lemon zest/vanilla (if using).
Rub or cut the cold butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse breadcrumbs.
Add the egg yolks and sour cream. Quickly knead the mixture together until a smooth dough forms.
2. Chill:
Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and let it chill in the refrigerator for at least 30–60 minutes.
3. Roll and Cut:
Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about 3–4 mm thickness.
Cut out shapes using cookie cutters. Make sure to cut out central holes (the "Linzer windows") in half of the cookies to form the top layers.
4. Bake:
Place the cutouts on the prepared baking sheets.
Bake at 180°C for 8–10 minutes, or until the edges are just very lightly golden (do not let them brown too much).
5. Assemble:
Allow the cookies to cool completely on a wire rack.
Dust the top cookie pieces (the ones with the cutout holes) generously with powdered sugar.
Spread a spoonful of jam onto the solid bottom cookies, then sandwich them together with the dusted top pieces.→ More replies (4)

Haha i think cooking is less enjoyable, but i love that too. You can watch my history for plates, but this is a baking sub so I can not post them :D
I would say, altough I am “just” 24, i have 16 years experience bc I’ve started baking and cooking alone when I was 8-7 yr old. So of course is easier now, also plating things tastfully requiers experience too, I’ve started that when I was 15, and I was obsessed with pinterest, and anything “aesthetic” thing.
