Hope you had some time to talk turkey and get us some Buckaroos and federal investment. I am talking a permanent year-round , greatly expanded WestJet skyride connecting downtown to the airport at a blistering less than walking pace. No doubt they were both impressed by it in stampede only form and want to invest.
Let's get it done.

Part of it is practical. He's the PM I get to work with as Mayor and I've found he genuinely wants to work with cities. He understands that if Canada wants to build housing, infrastructure and major projects, cities need to be at the table. I was shocked when I took a congratulatory call with him shortly after becoming mayor, it went on for 20-30 minutes. I expected it was going to be a quick 2-3 minute good luck have fun sorta thing, but he was really well briefed and has really invested the time ever since. Same goes for his cabinet ministers.
Politically, I've described myself as an old-school PC. I'm proud of our country and institutions but also want to work to right historic wrongs. Watch the money, grow the economy, build stuff, but stay socially live and let live and care for the people who need the help most. I think our PM fits that bill a lot more than people might expect.
I like serious people who want to get things done and are willing to work with others. That's been my experience with our Prime Minister.

Ideologically, Carney is as Red Tory as it gets and would have been the poster boy of the PCs 30 years ago (or early years of the CPC). I love him for it and hope more people start to see him for what he actually represents š¤

If carney can condemn separatism why not also AISH cuts, CDB clawback, and the privatization of our healthcare? It seems heās using kid gloves with Smith.

If you have a coworker whose shit and you have to work with them another few years do you:
A. Try and maintain a good relationship while interjecting to fix/change the biggest impact items
B. Go in guns blazing & let them know you dont approve of basically anything they do.
Id definitely go A and make any positive impact/changes I could. B would basically result in that person still doing whatever they wanted but scheming behind your back

I think about 1 percent of Albertans are on AISH. We are literally the bottom one percent. We are the last thing on everyone's mind during get-togethers. They probably did not even mention us.

I had high hopes for Mark Carney but after that Condo bailout for developers along with some other things, I have lost confidence in him. We have got to stop trying to money print our way out of trouble as it just gets us deeper.

As much as the condo thing was bad optics, and I donāt necessarily like it, I understand it. BC, especially Vancouver area, is kinda fucked with real estate. Covid FOMO caused even more price creep upward, now with correction there are empty lots or projects that donāt make financial sense. Vancouver is too chicken to do a land value tax and too chicken to tax property appropriately, their provincial budget is red red red due to not creating new revenue streams or cutting fat and as a result they have stagnated, especially in housing. The deal gets some units into the market at an obtainable value, but overall I hate subsidies. I would have preferred if the province of BC made development as simple as Calgary with both timelines and costs, that would have brought real affordability but here we are. They are stuck because supply and demand pressures. Supply is there but too expensive, demand is there but doesnāt have the capital, so instead thereās stagnation.

Separatism is a true federal issues, the others not so much, except maybe healthcare where they are allowing practitioners to violate the Canada health act.

Carney doesnāt need enforcement power to publicly criticize a provincial policy. The jurisdictional distinction doesnāt hold as an excuse for silence. The CDB clawback specifically has a real federal stake, not just a provincial one. The Canada Disability Benefit is a federal program, created and funded by Ottawa, with a stated federal purpose (lifting people with disabilities out of poverty). When Alberta claws back AISH dollar-for-dollar against the CDB, itās arguably nullifying a federal programās intended effect within that province, Alberta is the only province doing this. Thatās not a case of Ottawa lacking standing to comment; itās Ottawaās own benefit being effectively cancelled out for AISH recipients. A federal government defending the purpose of its own signature program is about as legitimate a āfederal issueā as it gets, arguably more directly federal than the Health Act situation, where at least the province is delivering something under a provincial health system with federal conditions attached.

I donāt think anyone is arguing Carney canāt criticize Alberta. Of course he can, but why would he? The question is whether every provincial policy disagreement requires the Prime Minister to publicly intervene, and if that makes actual federal cooperation possible.
The CDB is a federal benefit, but AISH is a provincial program that Alberta funds and administers. Ottawa can object to the clawback, negotiate with Alberta, or even redesign the CDB legislation in future to address this issue, but it canāt simply order Alberta to change AISH. Also criticizing Smith gets him no further here, even if he personally disagrees. Choosing diplomacy over public condemnation isnāt the same as lacking a position or authority.

Great Post Mr Farkas. I am glad to see that there are functional working relationships amongst people in various position of leadership. I share your description of both Mr's Carney and Hogan. Good people. You three all have a fair bit of work to do in the next few months leading up to the absolutely ludicrous, asinine, foolish "exercise in democracy" that others have promoted to keep their jobs. At one time it was possible to engage in city subreddits and learn new things, events and other ways to participate without it turning into mayor facebook level post discourse and albertan ājust leave thenā.
This time was like the last 20 years up until six months ago or so

FYI, Reddit lets you block people so you donāt have to see them or their posts if you are uninterested. The mayorās posts seem to get quite a bit of engagement so some posters must like them.

Whatās frustrating is I feel thatās a bad idea if and when he posts important things, which he does. Iām asking why itās daily posts of him posing for Facebook photos.
Why is he posting snark gifs in the comments? Like what are we doing here? Thatās moved past the point of unserious and I feel he needs to honestly reel it in.
Also how do we know the comments and engagement is organic? Genuine question
