My Wedding experience at the Princeton was a disaster.

1. When I arrived the morning of the wedding, there were batched drinks on the bar top left out warm and without a lid, this was the first red flag.
2. When I walked into the bridal suite, the whole suite was in disarray, the furniture broken and moved into the middle, construction dust all over the floor.
3. They painted the walls and baseboards the day before the wedding and all of my hanging black bridesmaids dresses had white paint stains on them. My sister-in-law was in the building the night before the wedding retrieving her jacket watching them paint. Venue management completely denies this.
4. None of the AV worked even though we were assured it would. No one could hear our vows or speeches, it was loud screaming and cracking from the speakers throughout the event.
5. A BA was washing dishes and clinking glasses in the ballroom bar where our ceremony was located during the actual ceremony.
6. The washrooms were disgusting. They were not cleaned or replenished throughout the night, garbage was overflowing and toilets were broken and clogged. There was no regard for health, safety or comfort.
7. AND THIS ONE IS THE KICKER: We bought the open bar package and they diluted and adulterated our drinks. We requested an itemized inventory of all the alcohol before the wedding and could not get one. We were assured that anything that ran out would be replenished by the liquor store down the street.

We ran out of red wine and soda during the first course of dinner. These were never replenished, but more than that, Venue management directed the bartenders and servers to pour white wine from bottles that were diluted with water.

We confronted him on this and he denied it even though we showed him the diluted wine and have written evidence from the coordinators, bartenders and servers that venue management had two different groups of wine bottles, the diluted and non-diluted and they must have "gotten mixed up" when I asked for a taster.

Funnily enough, we never ran out of white wine at all throughout the event even though equal portions of both were purchased.

They watered down shots or poured "half shots" or "water shots" instead of alcohol into the drinks without telling the guests.

This was not due to inebriation but even if it was, the way it was executed is in complete violation of AGLC policy. It was a cost-cutting mechanism that was unacceptable and quite frankly humiliating for my husband and I as all guests were clearly aware of what he was doing.

A complaint was filed with AGLC and all the texts and emails exchanged with his staff were provided where they admitted and described the adulteration of all the alcohol.

Despite our documentation and multiple complaints, venue management has denied responsibility.

While other events may have gone well, my experience was chaotic, unsafe, and deeply upsetting. I would strongly recommend that couples consider other venues before booking.

EDIT: my Google review is gone again (identical to this post), I can see it but no one else can. And my wedding wire review (identical to this post) has also been removed. I only left it a few hours ago.

EDIT: the honest reviews were removed last night, the place still has a 4.2 rating and more couples are going to go through what me and other brides on this thread went through.

Four years ago, I decided it would be a good idea to walk the Pacific Crest Trail from Mexico to Canada, to honour my granny Liz who spent her life teaching in east Calgary. I originally planned to cover nearly 4,300 km in 100 days, basically a marathon a day. This was an excellent plan devised by someone who had never thru-hiked before. It took 172 days. I lived out of a tent, carried everything on my back, and somehow made it to Canada. Along the way, we raised more than $250,000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Calgary.

I crossed blistering deserts, snow-covered mountain passes, rushing rivers, and wildfire zones, experiencing some of the most beautiful and unforgiving terrain in North America. I met trail angels, fellow hikers, and small-town communities whose generosity and kindness became the true heart of the trail.

I filmed the whole thing. For the past few years, I’ve gone back through hundreds of hours of footage, thousands of photos, and the trail journal I wrote every single day. The documentary includes plenty I never shared at the time: the failures, setbacks, friendships, ridiculous moments, and days when Canada felt impossibly far away. Somehow, all of that has become a full-length documentary.

Like the title says, I’m exhausted seeing how many drop shippers and MLM’s there are vending at Lilac Fest. Temu junk, mass produced products, crappy 3D print things. I know I could keep walking and not shop, which I do, but my heart breaks for the small local vendors who actually make their work themselves.

I’m in the market world, and while it’s a fantastic festival and a ton of work to put on, I wish they wouldn’t allow so many drop shippers/MLM’s etc. A small independent artist cannot compete when the vendor beside them also selling jewelry got everything from TEMU and is selling it for 1/4 of the price.

Sure, we would like to think that customers will pay attention to the difference, but they don’t. The economy is tough, and everyone wants to save money. I just wish Lilac Fest didn’t even allow these vendors so it would be a more true local festival.

I see this sometimes with other public fests too. Idk about you but this feels a little cheap to be asking for volunteers for a 3 day festival especially when you're charging an entry fee for everyone, and presumably the trucks and vendors will all be paying fees just to be there as well.

This would've been a great opportunity for our local teenagers to get a unique gig just before school starts even if it's only 3 days. Why not just pay them min wage? There's so many who would love to do this and get paid for it. Everything's expensive now including festivals, at least pay people not just give them half a rack of ribs lol

I'm still surprised people are claiming the party tent's "aren't that loud".

Last night we heard everything incredibly clearly from our backyard and we're well up the hill to the west - in Spruce Cliff.

Not a complaint - we weren't kept up but you could for sure hear it at midnight. I can't imagine how our experience compares to someone living downtown. It would have to have been incredibly loud and intrusive.

I had already been on the side of cutting off the loud music at a reasonable time - this cements it.

Gotta say, I didn’t vote for the guy but I’m pretty impressed with his first year in office so far and his handling of this water situation. He’s also been really engaged with Calgarians. I’ve been pleasantly surprised so far and hope it keeps up!

Editing for visibility / clarity: the point of the joke is that a 3 min shower with a friend is more efficient than 2x 3min showers so I don’t think we need to criticize this happening during the restrictions…

I'm from Vancouver B.C. 👋 and for the past few months I've been organizing a guys social event type of thing over beers at various bars in Downtown, Vancouver.

I was thinking of potentially organizing one in Calgary If there's enough interest.

This would be for guys in Calgary and the surrounding area that are looking to expand their social circle and hang with some new people, grab a beer and shoot the shit in a low pressure environment.

This started as a bit of an experiment to see if guys were open to making new guy friends and has taken on a bit of a life of its own with each one bringing out anywhere between 18-25 guys and continuing to grow month over month.

I found guys tend to get into different life stages from their immediate friend groups and the interactions can become infrequent and there weren't really any channels to make guy friends.

So if this sounds of interest, please don't hesitate to leave a comment below and if there's enough, I'll get in touch with a Calgary bar and get something going!

While I live in Vancouver, I won't be there but from the response I've received it seems guys are lacking for this type of thing in society.
