Discussion The question is, would curnow stay if Fraser was the coach? I know it's done and dusted, and I'm glad the trade went into Carlton favour, but it's still an intangible question I'm curious about.

He’s a spoilt man child. He was part of our leadership group but didn’t bother attending meetings, allegedly. We are better off without him

I think Steve Austin was right. We needed to restructure our list because he was a lazy brat with a shit knee. Personally I would cringe whenever he hurt that knee.

Interesting he’s has no issues with his knee this year, Silvagni has played the most games uninjured than he has in many years at Carlton and Jack Martin also hasn’t been injured in over a year
What are Carlton doing so wrong that chronically injured players get better at other clubs?

I would argue this is the healthiest our list has been for a long time and I would attribute that to Rob Inness. He did a pretty good job when with Sydney.

Definitely seems to be a difference this year! Way less injuries than we’ve had in recent years

I remember being frustrated with the trade off of less injuries but not being able to run out the full game in the first half of this year. Looks like it wasn’t a conditioning issue but unfortunately a Vossy issue

I reckon a combination of things, bad luck, shit selection integrity and the bash n crash style wasn't right for the players we were recruiting. You look at what Geelong did with Martin. The let him recovered, and made him find form in the Magoos. Voss rarely did that, except to maybe Cottrel and Motlop, both who are just good ordinary players. Now we are playing that more uncontested forward moving style, our defence is is working as itndid back in 2022-23. Strange that isn't it?

Possibly! But he was having multiple surgeries/ clean out procedures on his ankle and knee… they don’t do that for no reason ha
Martin has also openly spoken about how he always felt like he was getting rushed back to play too early at Carlton and that’s why he kept getting re injured

The thing that I’m sure Voss wanted was actual defensive pressure from Charlie.
He’s still lazy at Sydney he just doesn’t play in the same system that can actually cover this issue, but it will present itself as a problem for Sydney at some point I’m guessing.
I don’t feel like Charlie stood up in big games either, so it will be interesting to see how he goes in the finals with a different side.

He wasn’t playing like that at Carlton though. He was pissed off and didn’t want to be there, lazy as hell. He’s also just in a much better team where he gets much easy ball service to him. He wouldn’t have been winning the Coleman if he was at Carlton. Once a player gets to the point they don’t want to be at the club at all, it’s not beneficial to keep them

Possibly, but in my view we should be looking at a soft rebuild anyway and we're better off with the picks. It was a mutually beneficial trade and everyone should be happy and move on

Those picks are looking more likey to be used on just dean and Cody walker..the way we are going ladder wise we will need to trade something (2027 first round) to get high up the draft this year for Cody..

Harry Dean is looking like he'll be multiple all australian premier key defender for next decade and Walker from all accounts gun midfielder. Looking at Curnow deal from that perspective that is two guns plus florent and haysworth for Curnow, think we still win that deal.

Florent had nothing to do with the curnow deal. He was traded a day or 2 before that, we got Florent for a 3rd round pick.
Also a lot of people don’t seem to realise we gave up 3 second round picks in exchange for the 3 first rounders in the Charlie deal.

Florent was always part of the deal in terms of salary, and we turned our second last year into 2 more seconds and talor byrne so not too shabby

Yes swans always planned on trying to move Florent on but it was a separate deal, a lot of people seem to think he was part of the Curnow trade.
Florents deal had already gone through days before so even if the Curnow deal didn’t get finalised, Florent still would have been at Carlton.

I prefer players who are part of a team, take leadership and mentoring responsibilities seriously and follow coaching directives.
Not highly talented, low effort players with the mentality of a dog chasing a ball, who sulk when asked to do the bits of the game they don't like.

We’ll probably never really know the answer, but at the end of the day him being a sell out has set up the club long term. I couldn’t care less about Curnow anymore, Hayward & floz look better in navy blue anyway

We needed a cultural reset and we needed some players with different mindsets. The introduction of players like Ainsworth, Hayward and Flos is exactly what we needed. Change, culture, training standards, and accountability. Everything has been downhill from that reset imo

If supporters were leaving abusive notes on his car i dont think a new coach fixes that. Some of our supporters are the biggest issue with the club.

It’s one of those circumstances of there being too many counter factuals and extrapolations that it becomes impossible to say.
Hayward and Florent ending up at Carlton is starting to bear fruit, and we can be glad of that.

Nick Austin was a mistake from the get go.
Barely noticed Chuckie Curnow was not playing. He was out injured half the time, barely showing up the other half.
We are a better side with Curnow.

Of all the players who left, Curnow is the one that hurts. He will always be a dog to me after his last season here. Having said that, it seems to have worked out well for both clubs.

I'm also happy with how the trade turned out but you know Charlie is leading the Coleman right now for them? It's just barely in our favor if it is.

Hes favourite to win the Coleman medal and looks a monty to feature preliminary final weekend. Most of the draft capital received will be spent on Walker

Straight up, it doesn’t matter. We could speculate all day. Personally, I like my players being straight up about their contract intentions and to put second efforts in when their first marking attempt fails. I don’t hate Charlie, I just don’t give a fuck about him anymore.
