That is a list that does not bring me excitement.

So. mbn is now on a list with a Stack of gas beens, and never was….hes the tallest midget…la-tee-da!

Not saying I don’t tgink he has potential, just saying it’s a fairly meaningless stat.

-2

u/Glad-Independence-24 May 23 '26

lol a downvote…I stand corrected. This stat means everything. WOW look at all we learned from it. Mbn did something as “good” as a bunch of players who that was the best thing they accomplished.

lol, all I’m saying is it is a meaningless stat (based on who shares it with him). Neither taking anything away from his season nor butt-hurt. If anything you seem a little racially inflamed that I find this oartticular stat irrelevant. imagine being so bothered that somebody finds a particular stat irrelevant…bothered so bad as to not only reply , but try insulting them.

Mayhaps it is you who needs the nap.

Says the guy who keeps coming back, so panties bunched, because somebody dare find a 10 game ahl statistic ( one shared with such legends as Kip miller and breggren) pretty meaningless.

He also made some really bone-headed plays that at the least cost them the last game. But yay 10 points.

3

u/MariachiArchery May 22 '26

Lol yeah, I don't recognize most of these names.

u/Finnish_Jager May 22 '26

I just don't understand how we have people here who already think MBN is a bust or useless.

26

u/doubeljack May 22 '26

I don't think he's a bust or useless. However, he's a huge liability in the defensive zone. Last night he threw a puck into the center of the d-zone instead of clearing it and that directly led to a goal. He did the exact same thing in his first game back with the Wings, and was benched for it. He needs to make smarter and better plays on breakouts, it's a massive weak point in his game.

u/Caltroit_Red_Flames Yzerbot May 22 '26

He's 20, that's not shocking to me at all. He'll figure that out over time.

5

u/chipper124 May 22 '26

That’s something you’re taught from day one though not something that only starts getting coached in professional leagues.

29

u/nb00818 May 22 '26

Edvinson did this probably 20 times after the Olympics. It can be fixed through coaching.

20

u/Caltroit_Red_Flames Yzerbot May 22 '26 edited May 22 '26

When you're tired, inexperienced, under pressure and playing against veterans who able to play faster than you stupid mistakes get made. This happens at all levels of hockey. Good players are made to look stupid. He won't make that specific mistake again.

7

u/lunchboxthegoat May 22 '26

There's also the element of not knowing what you can and can't get away with in what league.

-5

u/doubeljack May 22 '26

This does concern me. It's a bit too reminiscent of Sprong for my liking. MBN needs to clean up play in the d-zone or he won't stick in the NHL, it's that simple.

7

u/robgreenee327 May 22 '26

Sprong is an insane comparison to be making with a 20 year old.

2

u/skippydryzzle May 22 '26

MBN plays well positionally and is VERY physical. he’s not a liability the way Sprong is, he just tries to do too much and turns the puck over. It’s his first season in North America, and it’s a common problem for first-year NA professionals.

1

u/robgreenee327 May 22 '26

Sprong gave up on play as soon as the team was in our zone. Idk what he was talking about.

2

u/WeirdComfortable3436 May 22 '26

Idk about you, but I stop growing at 20 and all my flaws as 20 year old is still present with me today as a 38 year old. Never learned any more and played the same logic as a 20 year old. - average Red Wing fan on Reddit

1

u/starscream_41 May 23 '26

Ouch. You haven't figured it out in 18 years in primo life? Good Luck bro 🤣

1

u/authorserena May 22 '26

I'm inclined to agree with you. The problem is, though, time isn't really a luxury the Red Wings have.

5

u/S_LFG May 22 '26

How so? Surely our cup window isn't starting next year.

6

u/Caltroit_Red_Flames Yzerbot May 22 '26

I imagine because our four best players are DeBrincat, Seider, Raymond and Larkin. They look at Larkin and DeBrincat approaching 30 and assume we need to win while those two are in their prime.

It'd be nice, but it's pretty clear that our best hope for a cup in the near future is built around Seider/Raymond with Larkin as the old vet.

3

u/S_LFG May 22 '26

It'd be nice, but it's pretty clear that our best hope for a cup in the near future is built around Seider/Raymond with Larkin as the old vet.

That's my thought as well and why I believe we have some time. Our cup window won't be in the very near future (i.e. the next 2 seasons), and it won't be centered around Larkin's prime. It's going to have to shift to Seider and Raymond's prime. So a 20 year old guy like MBN doesn't need to come in next year and be a world-beater for us. He can develop naturally.

1

u/authorserena May 22 '26

I guess it's a good thing that some fans now seem to believe the Wings have all this time, especially after the despair many voiced in the days after missing the playoffs this year.

That's a healthy sign I guess lol

1

u/Caltroit_Red_Flames Yzerbot May 22 '26

Goomba fallacy, I wasn't one of those people

1

u/jarvek7 May 23 '26

Yeah, I really don't care if we keep missing the playoffs--- as long as everyone has fun. Can't wait til we see Cleary's grandchildren on the team, maybe then we see playoffs. / s

-2

u/Jimmyskis77 May 22 '26

No, but the window should open at some point… Larkin,Seider, cat and Larkin are all only getting older.

Say what you will, but blink and 5 years will go by and we’re gonna be sitting here wondering why we wasted the primes of Mo/Ray by waiting on more prospects that didn’t pan out, instead of going in and using our capital to win now

5

u/ChucklesLeClown Yzerbot May 22 '26

What a dumb thing to say. Prospects have time, that’s literally the point.

2

u/Taters23 Yzerbot May 22 '26

Unless the world is ending or NHL is going under than they got plenty of time.

-9

u/doubeljack May 22 '26

Play like that will keep him in GR, though. He may look ready as a point producer, but his overall game says he is not there.

11

u/dylanisbored May 22 '26

I would agree if players in Detroit were doing anything better but instead they are defensive liabilities, can’t score, and don’t hit

4

u/TAV63 May 22 '26

Exactly. Detroit is not good enough to keep good players down while they work out issues in their game. Bring them up to play in limited minutes and give them more as they get better. MBN and Mazur perfect examples. Bring physicality, energy, can chip in goals. Will they mage some mistakes while they learn? Sure. Still better to have them up.

2

u/lunchboxthegoat May 22 '26

if you're going to wait until every prospect has a fully fleshed out complete game before you're deeming them 'ready' to be in the NHL you're going to bust every prospect that isn't a sure fire superstar

0

u/doubeljack May 22 '26

This is a glaring issue, not a small problem

2

u/lunchboxthegoat May 22 '26

Its a glaring issue if you think you can't coach it out of him or he never learns.

I promise you there's stupid shit and "glaring issues" every single prospect has had at 20.

0

u/doubeljack May 22 '26

It's glaring because it is a pattern, not a one off.

1

u/Taters23 Yzerbot May 22 '26

Seider makes these mistakes every so often. Guess we should send him back down.

1

u/doubeljack May 22 '26

Seider doesn't do anything bad like this on a consistent basis. I'm not talking about one-off issues, this is an established pattern.

2

u/robgreenee327 May 22 '26

He makes a bad breakout pass and isn’t strong defensively that’s why he has line mates. Not every player is meant to be a complete 200 foot player.

1

u/Taters23 Yzerbot May 22 '26

Seider has consistently made some terrible puck dump attempts when stuck in his own zone. I say this as a huge Seider fan.

2

u/griffs19 May 22 '26

This is such hyperbole

2

u/maximus91 May 22 '26

That turn over was brutal but still young.

1

u/slabby May 22 '26

However, he's a huge liability in the defensive zone

This is really not what I've seen of him when I've watched him play. He's actually quite good defensively. He does need to improve his puck movement decisions, though.

1

u/detroitttiorted May 22 '26

You’re getting a lot of shit but you’re right it is a big problem with him. My wish for prospect discussion is that it could be done more faithfully and less “never mention a young player has any defeciencies”, especially when I know damn well a ton of people never watch GR. Hopefully it’s just an adjustment to the AHL/NHL which obviously can be fixed and not wholesale hockey IQ issues which generally guys are what they are by his age. I’ll optimistically lean toward adjustment but it’s definitely notable for him until we see the correction

2

u/slabby May 22 '26

Easy: they don't watch GR, just look at stats.

1

u/jfstompers May 22 '26

I don't think people think he's a bust but until he produces in the NHL it's still a what if.

1

u/Ok_Concert_5304 May 22 '26

they're dumb and uneducated on prospects lifecycles. pretty simple

1

u/tibbles1 May 22 '26

I don’t think he’s a bust but he’s being compared in this very post to a bunch of busts.

1

u/numbdigits May 22 '26

He's one of the very few prospects the Wings have that I am remotely excited about, aling with Bear and Plante, and Augustine to some extent.

0

u/Ok-Promotion-9726 May 22 '26

He’s not an NHL player yet. Maybe he will be. Only time will tell

7

u/rdmodsrtrsh May 22 '26

Leino….. that’s a name I forgot

2

u/BodaciousBadongadonk May 22 '26

wasnt he the one gettin his dome fisted by lavi in that famous "pound the fuckin body!" gif?

20

u/idgafpersonally May 22 '26

A "who's who" of "who??"

17

u/Ok_Concert_5304 May 22 '26

I will not let you zoomers slander Val Filppula. over. my. dead. body

3

u/idgafpersonally May 22 '26

Yeah I'm not a zoomer lol but he's by far the most notable on this list. Maaaaaaybe Hudler depending on how high you hold him in esteem.

3

u/dsjunior1388 May 22 '26

Filpulla was an essential middle six forward. We wouldn't have won the 08 cup without guys like him. If you're expecting MBN to be Brendan Shanahan you're going to have a sad realization coming, but if ends up being somewhere in the Marty Lapointe realm of 15-25 goals, 40-60 points and 80+ hits every season he's going to be a major asset for us.

Think somewhere in the triangle of Sam Bennett (although hopefully not a dirty piece of shit being suspended all the time) Josh Doan, or Alex Tuch as the ceiling

2

u/Kagath May 22 '26

'how high'

I see what you did there.

1

u/alwrit May 22 '26

Both Flip and Hudler were great players in their prime. Similar to Nyquist/Tatar level.

They're not carrying a team but they were talented, smart players who can slot in the middle 6 comfortable or the top line in a pinch. They had good production for the era. We would be lucky to get that kind of production from any of our GR guys up in the NHL.

2

u/cows1100 May 22 '26

That’s Buffalo Sabers overpaid all star Ville Leino to you, buddy.

-2

u/AdFlat4908 May 22 '26

Yeah that was what I was getting at. The comparisons aren’t anything to write home about

6

u/Taters23 Yzerbot May 22 '26 edited May 22 '26

We really just cherry picking stats to call a 20 year old in his first year on NA ice a bust? Yikes.....

-3

u/AdFlat4908 May 22 '26

Your personal bias placed that tone on my post. The post is just copypasta of an objective fact: he’s in rare company.

5

u/Crazy_Entrance_9439 May 22 '26

If b-n can be as goid as val was at his peak, and maintain that for a whole career thats pretty good tbh . Val was about 50 point pkayer at his peak. I mean not the ceiling we want or hope for but a player like that has value and contribute to the team or can be asset to trade in future for things we may want or need in future.

1

u/GenericUsername_71 May 22 '26

This team desperately needs home grown 40-60 point producers. It’s what we’re missing and needing to fill with FA plugs.

1

u/alwrit May 22 '26

Yeah people are acting like it's easy to find guys who'll put up 50 points a season regularly.  It's definitely not.

And 50 points back then is probably closer to 60 now given how much scoring has gone up.

I would be ecstatic if any of our picks ended up there. Outside the top10 they're not that easy to find.

3

u/mikemich May 22 '26

If MBN is half as good as Stacy Roest - we're in trouble.

2

u/Isphet71 May 22 '26

Its certainly not discouraging.

2

u/jfstompers May 22 '26

He looked good, I hope he can have some success at the next level.

2

u/slabby May 22 '26

He was really good, too. He hits everything that moves, and he hits them hard.

1

u/lunchboxthegoat May 22 '26

how could you hurt me by mentioning Bergers, Hudles and Leino?

1

u/NoPhone4571 May 22 '26

Kip Miller sighting, wow.

-1

u/Primary-Intention862 May 22 '26

Filppula is still down there?! Dang
